Description
Why save the world when there's money to be made?
The year is 2105. Humanity has expanded to the stars, ushering in a golden age. Everyone has access to the AI-powered System. But a rare few are able to bring out their inner strength to access the Hidden System, which grants great power and fame. These Users often become heroes, defending humanity both against domestic villains and alien threats.
Jacob, however, is not the idealistic type. He isn't the guy who saves old ladies from burning buildings or fights the big bad guy to save humanity. He only wants to get into the hero gig for money, and to protect his childhood friend. He's spent years trying to become a User with no success.
Little did he know that he had to die to make it happen.

- GershRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Hero for Hire" is an absolute gem of a book that delivers an exhilarating and captivating narrative from start to finish. The story follows the thrilling adventures of a protagonist who, disillusioned by the traditional hero's journey, decides to take matters into their own hands and become a hero for hire.
What sets this book apart is its unique take on the concept of heroism, exploring the complexities of morality, duty, and personal growth. The protagonist's journey is not just about defeating villains, but also about confronting their own inner demons and learning what it truly means to be a hero.
The world-building in "Hero for Hire" is masterfully done, immersing readers in a rich and vibrant universe filled with diverse characters and cultures. Each page is brimming with detail, making the world feel alive and expansive.
Moreover, the writing is superb, with vivid descriptions and engaging dialogue that keep you hooked from the very first page. The pacing is perfect, balancing action-packed sequences with quieter, introspective moments that allow for deeper character development.
Overall, "Hero for Hire" is a must-read for anyone looking for a fresh and exciting take on the hero's journey. It's a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat, eagerly turning pages to see what happens next. - HumanWankRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is honestly really good, I cant see any issues so far however the first two chapters feel incredibly different from the rest of the story. That's not to say that they are bad its just feels as if its a separate story, and honestly could put off some people as they are very slice of life and upbeat, while the rest of the story not so much. Making them a sort of prologue before the story seems like it would be more appropriate.
But aside from that the rest of the story is great, its pretty dark but not grimdark. It's got some great twists, the mystery of his powers is fun to see develop, the downsides to his powers are just as interesting too. As of writing this he's still essentially just a decently superpowered human but I can see how the story is pushing for more death themed powers so that's pretty cool.
Overall its got great potential, is a pretty good read as of now, but don't get misled or put off by those first two chapters as the rest of the story is nothing like them. - KittyJinglesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I like the friends to lovers thing and how she accepts him despite his changes. Sex is off screen. He's kind of cynical and dark and not romantic so it was nice to see him get all soft about her. She's not super annoying, I like her as a supporting character since she's the one that knows about powers and heros putting the work in studying them. I'm excited to watch him grow his hero mercenary business
- MadHat3rRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So, why am I not confident in five stars? There are only two chapter currently so where things go story wise are still up in the air. That said, these two chapters are pretty thick with plot and chock full of world building. Anyway, lots of green flags with this one so far, if you enjoy other novels from this genre like Eyeball: Titanslayer (I think that's the name) you should try this, you'll know after a couple chapters if it's for you.
