- AltoventureRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Help Me Save The World asks you to accompany an at first unnamed protagonist as they go from gum-stepping citizen of Earth to the chosen of a god bound on a mission to save the world. Fans of reincarnation isekai looking for a healthy mix of familiar tropes and unconventional storytelling should give this a try.
Style: First person storytelling is a bold departure from most fictions I’ve read in this genre so far, though it fits well with the beginning section. The pacing is done well even though what I've read so far covers years of time. For those looking for a change of pace, this story will provide a fresh set of eyes for you to explore a world with.
Story: Readers will find a familiar greeting when starting this story as the isekai jerks into motion with a sudden stop. The world follows a strong soft magic system that has implied rules and restrictions, though there is no heavy-handed explanation at the beginning which leaves room for future exploration. It is a little unclear in the beginning how much time is passing, though the milestones the character hits provide a sufficient guide to keep the story on track.
Grammar: I have no complaints about the grammar of this story and haven’t found any glaring issues over the course of my read so far.
Character(s): The development of the main character in the early stages is primarily in power rather than persona, though the first person writing helps alleviate this as the character’s thoughts are directly relayed to the reader. - Bookman9Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Help Me Save the World is an isekai tale narrated in the straightforward first-person perspective of Alexander Von Dawson. He can be a bit awkward at times but he has a good head above his shoulder which makes up for it.
Style: The pacing remains solid and consistent throughout each chapter, ensuring a smooth flow that keeps readers engaged from start to finish. One of the story's strengths lies in its world-building, which is presented through multiple perspectives.
Story: The assassin maid in particular explains the complexity of the world and it lends to the starting plot of the story. Each non-human race is characterized by unique quirks and traits, adding depth and interest to the narrative.
Character: Alexander's inner monologue provides fascinating insights into his character and motivations, allowing readers to understand his perspective on various events and decisions. His willingness to take risks, such as trading his senses for a blessing, adds an element of suspense and intrigue to the plot. Thankfully, the main character is not OP from the start. His High risk, high-reward mentality is welcomed. The supporting cast of characters is also well-developed, contributing to the richness of the story.
Grammar: As of reading this, there are no mistakes or issues that pulled me back from my immersion. Perfection!
Overall, The story is a compelling read that combines engaging storytelling with intricate world-building and well-rounded characters. I'm looking forward to how Alexander is going to develop his cult and religion, and maybe save the world along the way. - DimensionalWriter27Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story got my attention in the first few chapters thanks to the MC and premise being so interesting. The secondary characters are good, they have the kind of personality that isn't too different from an anime that I would see.
Story: The pace of the story feels juussst right. It goes slow enough that's easy for me to understand what even is going on, or rather, while also not being too slow that it feels like its meandering needlessly. The protagonist helps it to make it fresh to read.
Style: Due to my lack of experience with writing I can’t really speak for or against this particular writing style. For what I've seen it's good enough, first person perspective wasn't a problem for me but I can see how it could be for some. I personally felt the way the story was told pretty straightforward to understand, and while the character does sometimes talks about stuff that doesn't really matter, it DID at least had a point to it so it could establish his character, which was nice.
Grammar: English isn't my first language so I always found it hard to critically judge someone else's...but for what's worth I didn't notice any egrecious errors in it.
Characters: I found Alexander is pretty good fit for this kind of story. Someone who actually wants to take action instead of just reacting as stuff unfolds around him. - SkarabraeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: The story's style is very good. The writer is able to convey the tone very well with their word choice. The author also uses imagery very well, conveying the tone and the main character's experiences and feelings. Additionally, the style of writing is fairly unique.
Story: The story develops at exactly the pace it needs to, and it also is paced exactly the way it needs to be. I can safely say that the story is quite interesting too. It has a unique take on the Isekai genre where the main character has to put himself at a disadvantage for years in exchange for his Isekai MC powers. This gives some cost to the MC's abilities, which is very refreshing compared to other Isekai.
Grammar: There are some grammatical errors that can be somewhat distracting, but not many and the author will probably correct them since they've been pointed out.
Character: The characters are very good. All of them are well depicted. Almost all of them are realistic and three-dimensional too. And even the ones that aren't are very interesting and fitting for the story. So, I have no personal complaints with the characters.
I would highly recommend this story. It is incredibly interesting and well done. - keeganashleyliveRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0…What to say about Help Me Save The World by Sovrano. Well, I guess ‘wow’ could start it. I’m impressed. What seems like a light, fun, spunky read also contains a poetic depth that I was not expecting and really am enjoying. Now, before you get the wrong idea, this is an incredibly fun, sassy read. We’ve got the reincarnation trope…the ‘saved by a god-like figure with a purpose’…but, hey, this is no normal rodeo. What distinguishes it?
The voice. 100%. The MC is sparky, talkative and inquisitive. We see someone entirely relatable—felt lost and ‘gray’ in life with no dream or purpose—in someone unrelatable (growing power, purple eyes, white hair I believe…ability to manipulate magic). There’s humanity in this magical world, and it pulls you in. There’s also progression. The MC learns to use their newfound magic and every ‘blessing’ has a consequence. I loved the choice, the growing MC and the story as he finds out more about his world (don’t want to spoil it here! Just read it!).
The writing is wonderful, truly. Short sentences without long paragraphs makes it easy to devour the chapters. The dialogue is very well-crafted and there is so much depth to the story woven in between the lines of the fantastical—so much real-life wisdom. I saw it. I got it. I appreciated it. Instantly followed and favorited. Can’t wait to read more! - FJBRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0There’s a lot going on in this story that’ll be familiar to the isekai aficionado. We’ve got the whole god-sending-you-to-another-world-to-fix-their-problems, plus reincarnated as a baby and given a cheat power to aid in their quest added to the mix. A trifecta if there ever was one (with potentially ‘forcing an unruly goddess to tag along’ being an optional fourth, sadly that is not present in the tale — at least so far as I read).
What there is present, though, is a solid story with good roots, plenty of intrigue, and a nice sense of progression. Make no mistake, my comment about tropes before was a mark in this story’s favor, not against, because while these elements are familiar, they are also used here in ways that are just original enough to be refreshing. Particularly how item #2 & #3 from above tied into each other. More on that in a minute.
Style: I can’t really speak for or against the particular writing style. It’s... fine? Good, so long as you don’t have a problem with first person perspective (for some reason, I know that’s a non-starter for some, never quite understood why). The narration is straightforward and easy to follow, and while the character does periodically ramble, it helps to establish their personality and is used for storytelling effect, which is a nice double hit.
Story: Starting off with a sort of reverse truck-kun (not getting hit outside but rather flung violently while inside a suddenly stopping vehicle), the MC is faced with the choice to aid a god in need, or simply wait a short (500 year) while to reincarnate. Bet you can’t figure out which one he picks. Along with this he’s given the chance to craft a cheat skill for himself, provided it has a matching downside.
What the character ends up with is basically an OP do anything skill that will need to be developed to before it can be put to good use. Cue the training montage.
Beyond this setup for the main character, the story has a rather vibrant world, with events unfolding with or - Omnipotence101Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This Isekai hooked me right from the start, with an interesting MC and a great hook. Our secondary characters are also great, with vibrant quirky personalities that ooze anime style. I wish the author had leaned into the anime aesthetic in the title as well, something like, 'Missing my five senses I grind magic power and become OP' or some such lite novel title. Or at least mention that in the synopsis because it's really cool and I think the author is missing out by not emphasizing this premise.
Style: The author does all the hard things well. Good pacing, and the right amount of description, it flows naturally and is easy to read. There is one glaring exception. For all that is good, why the multi-POV first-person with fourth-wall breaks? There was also one break to third-person where he's describing himself through someone else's perspective which was very jarring.
Story: Really good hook, really interesting premises. Good setup for future intrigue. Great story.
Grammar: Everything flowed well, with only a couple of minor issues but nothing jarring.
Character: Quirky over-the-top anime characters, but done very well. The characters are great and you know what to expect.
Conclusion: Great story that is definitely being under-sold by its title and synopsis. Good hook and interesting systems. I wish the author had chosen a different narration style, or at least limited the fourth wall breaks and kept it to a single POV 1st person. - SerasStreamsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This author provided a very unique story. Rarely do I see a first-person POV story told in a rotating past/present tense; and yet oddly enough, it works.
The first chapter jumps right into things, but then it slows to a meticulous, slow burn. A good type of slow burn. The type that makes you want to keep reading to see what is coming next. But, it is meticulous. It maps out every little bit of the character's thoughts. Let's break it down:
Style: The author is telling a story that is sort of a 'looking back' past tense POV, which then switches to present tense. It can be jarring the first few times it happens, but then you quickly acclimate to it and find that the story works with it. I scored 4.5/5 because the tense swaps don't add anything. It's a stylistic choice, and the author makes it work, but it doesn't feel buttery smooth.
Grammar: Didn't notice any spelling or grammar errors. Good job!
Story: As of Chapter 11, the story is just starting to build up. We are starting to get some world lore, some idea of the major plot, and how it will interact with the main character. The only way to fix this would be to overhaul the story so that the MC gets to convey some of the plot/setting information earlier...but that would also slightly ruin the story. It's a conundrum I don't know how to fix.
Character: This is where the story is the strongest. We are getting to know this MC intimately. Their mind, their moves, their sense of morality. I am sucked into learning more about this story because of the MC and how they will tackle the world.
In conclusion, an excellent slow burn that is doing its job of building up an MC and is a delightful slow burn. I would recommend this to someone who is a fan of those types of 'reincarnated as an infant' stories, because this does it well. - Eli'sPencilRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Help Me Save The World is a good read, doing pretty much what you'd expect for any sort of action isekai story. If you like isekai as a genre, it's safe to say you will enjoy this one as well with its world-building and prose being what stands out the most.
Style: This story is told from a first-person perspective. However, it leans closer to the comedic style of commentary where the protagonist cracks some jokes here and there while also acting as if they are talking directly to the reader, which is something I like.
Story: I don't want to spoil much, but the story so far is alright. It's still early so it's really hard to judge a story before it is complete, but it's at least a fun read. It pretty much goes through what you'd expect in the beginning.
Characters: The MC is pretty funny sometimes, either intentionally or unintentionally. I wouldn't say any of the characters are bad, far from it, but I also wouldn't say I adore or love any of them in particular. Again, their arcs and such aren't finished yet so I can't be too harsh on the character development that I've seen so far. Again, a lot of these characters and tropes are what one would expect in the genre. I do like Alexander though, he isn't depicted as an idiot but he's also not a god who makes zero mistakes. He's very realistically depicted and that's a plus.
Grammar: No complaints here. - MonoDrakenRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Help Me Save The World is a story that is a part of the isekai genre, one where we are introduced to the main character that is Alexander Von Dawson. From the beginning, we get to see his pre-reincarnation self and then get transported into the world that he finds himself in. This story is interesting to read and there is a good amount of world-building done to provide some good thought for the world itself.
Style: The story is in the first person and we are able to get into Alexander's head which does help quite a bit to get an idea of his thought process.
Story: The plot follows Alexander as he goes through the actions to help support the goddess that brought him here. His actions make sense and we can see his progression going through life, which is rather interesting to read.
Grammar: The grammar doesn't have any issues thus far. The paragraphs were all spaced well and there did not seem to be any issues regarding the structure.
Character: The character of Alexander is one that makes sense throughout the story. When you read through his actions, you get to understand why he does such a thing and what gets him to go through such choices. He is not some foolish individual but one that is able to think and plan, which can be seen when he was able to make Renata go from enemy to ally.
