With the heroine laid low and the world consumed by his deadly miasma, soon he too would would join them in eternal rest, as he had not escaped their battle unscathed.
That was until a portal appeared, sending them both into another world. After some difficulties in transit, the heroine died upon arrival, and Sendrien was cast out alone in a foreign land, willing to do anything to survive—even at the cost of his pride.

Born without magic, and craving acceptance that her family won't give, she reaches out to the boy... and unwittingly forms a contract with Sendrien, saving his life.

- Roro520520Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Okay, I have to admit, the transition from the Prologue to Chapter 1 caught me off guard in the best way.
The Prologue goes hard—like, really hard. We’re talking "Grand Purification," massive destruction, and a Demon Lord ending an era. It sets up this massive scale, and then... boom. Chapter 1 hits, and our terrifying Demon Lord is suddenly bound to a house, hungry, confused, and forced to play the role of a butler for a noble girl named Diane.
The MC, Thistleman, is honestly the highlight so far. I really dig his internal monologue. He still thinks like an ancient, arrogant Demon Lord, constantly judging the "inferior" humans and their primitive magic, but physically? He’s struggling. The fight with the Grendel in Chapter 2 and 3 was great because it wasn't a one-shot kill. He actually had to struggle, manage his limited mana, and use tactics (and a classic Fireball) to win. It adds actual tension that a lot of "OP Protagonist" stories lack.
The World & Tone It’s definitely Grimdark. The description of the slaughtered village in Kurstwood was visceral—the author doesn't shy away from gore (the "chunks of debris, black blood, and hunks of viscera" in the prologue set the tone early). And can we talk about Duke Vermillion in Chapter 5? What a piece of work. He makes for a very hateable antagonist right off the bat, which is great for motivating the characters to leave and start their journey.
Overall If you like stories where the MC has knowledge/experience but lacks the power to back it up (at least initially), and you don't mind some bloody descriptions, this is a solid read. The dynamic between the cynical demon butler and the naive but traumatized noble lady has a lot of potential. I'm keen to see how long he can keep up the charade before he accidentally blows up a city. - ZarthosRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5As stated in the tags, this is grimdark, so yeah... people die... early, too. That doesn't mean it's a bad thing; just be ready for it. As for the isekai part, while I know where the author wanted to go with it, I feel it's completely unnecessary, but that's just my opinion as someone who isn't really attracted to that genre.
Style: There are a lot of shifts between first person narrator and third person. While it is well executed, it can still feel jarring when it shifts so fast. Also, be prepared for dialogues. People talk... a lot, which can move the story along but a big part is used to show the hustle and bustle of the city. It's a stylistic choice, to be sure, but it might not be for everyone.
Grammar: While I did find one formatting issue, it's nothing that will impede your enjoyment of this story.
Story: It's your traditional story of a Demon King being transferred to another world where he will wreak havoc. It's nothing groundbreaking, really, but it's still interesting. My only complaint with it is that if you have read similar stories before, you might see things coming a mile away. I haven't read too far yet, so I can't be 100% positive on this, but nothing I read yet has surprised me.
Characters: As I said when starting this review, people die. They aren't nameless NPCs, either. Each of them has a name and a slight (very slight) introduction before being promptly offed. Honestly, it can feel confusing being bombarded with so many names when they don't matter, at all. Like in the prologue, I understand that the author wants us to sympathize with their demise, but we simply don't have the time. I didn't even know who was who most of the time. I feel it would have been less confusing simply calling them by their classes, but that's just me. Lastly, Diane's father... ohhhh Diane's father... He's basically a caricature at this point, which can be entertaining, don't get me wrong. I just feel he doesn't fit really well into the tone of the world. Maybe things - LalethRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0From the very first chapters, I was captivated by the vivid imagery and the rich world described through the pages. The prologue immediately drew me in, introducing a magical realm (one of my favorite things!) and a Demon King... wich would be soon be defeated. I started reading for him, but I stayed for the intriguing development of his relationship with Diane. I loved those two.
Sure, there are clichés here and there, but they don’t bother me much—what matters is the story’s potential, and this one has plenty. (I also adore the little details, like the touches of humor sprinkled among the chaos and corpses. And the map. I quite love a map.)
Now, about the ratings:
Grammar: 5/5
No issues here. The writing is clean and easy to follow, with no mistakes.
Story: 4.0/5
Although the story has clichés, which have potential to have some unique twists later, I think that this doesn’t change that this has a lot of to grow. The execution, if might need improvement on areas like the dialogues, it keeps you clicking ‘next chapter’.
Characters: 4.0/5
I have my favourites, of course. And I like many of the dialogues, although some of them felt a bit bland and generic. I think they can be improved, deepened to make the characters stand out more.
Style: 4.0/5
I have to admit my main peeve is the shift between first and third person. I found myself captivated by the later, but not so much for the other. But I love the descriptions! They are what attracted me at first. And the humour is my kind of tea, so there’s that.
Overall: 4.5/5
I’ll repeat this: the story has a lot of potential. The worldbuiling is interesting –like the details from people from other worlds that left their mark-, and the main characters carry the story quite well.
You should give it a chance if you want a fun and engaging grimy isekai story! - FearmongeringRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5When I first read the synopsis to get a feel for the story, I was certain it would involve a lot of clichés. I was right, but this does not take away from the story itself, since those tropes find usage for a good reason. The prologue opened up and created a captivating scenery. We are thrown into the throes of a mighty war with deadly spells being used and foes finding themselves at the end of said spells. It follows the direction of an alliance centering around a chosen hero to take down a Demon King. Without going into too much detail here, it serves as an interesting take to introduce one of the two protagonists, while also setting the stage for dangerous and brutal consequences of this story.
Reading further, I just realized more and more how much potential this story has. There were really good ideas and visuals that produced a great image/insight into another world. While some comparisons and lines might have been a bit held back by them being cliché, it did not take much away from the worldbuilding. Overall, despite the criticism that is going to follow, it was a really enjoyable read for me.
To start out with the positives: Grammar 5/5: I did not find any mistakes or issues with grammar and punctuation. Everything written in the story was presented in a proper, correct manner. Thus, there was nothing I could ever find fault with.
Story Score 4.0/5: While it did tread a little too much on the clichés for my particular taste, it does not take away from the fact that this story has something about it which makes it hard to reduce it to those. In here, you will find a story that, with a lot of refinements, could become something truly special and unique. Based on the story alone and the qualities I can see simmering beneath the surface, I see it as a solid 4/5.
Character Score: 3.5/5: I was a bit torn on how to accurately evaluate the character score fairly. Do I just judge them based on what I see being written? Then it would hover around 2 stars, since the di - RockSword29Royal Road★★★ 3.0The story is incredibly messy and frustrating. The author intentionally added many details to make the plot better, but it only made it worse. The more I read, the more bored I became, like eating a bowl of instant noodles.
The characters are the only saving grace; everything else is terrible.
I apologize for this overly honest review, but I don't want to be a two-faced critic.
I will continue reading, hoping things will be different later.
I wish the author continued success in their career and continued improvement in their writing.
