Description
Sam is stuck.
The Nalitokk have collected a variety of races, aliens of all colors, shapes, and forms. Of those, humans are hardly the most unusual.
In fact, ever since waking up in their clutches, Sam has been working hard to make sure humans appearentirelyunremarkable. Years have whiled away as the inquisitive aliens have come to regard their newest test subject as defective. Damaged. Little more than a pet.
As much as it hurts, Sam knows it's the only way to keep surviving - for the time being.
But times are changing, and Sam can’t live under the Nalitokk’s radar forever. When things come to a head, Sam has to make some hard decisions about how to break free of their grasp. Decisions which change everything - from the Nalitokk’s view on humans, all the way down to Sam’s humanity itself.
With the Nalitokk hot in pursuit, Sam breaks free with one singular goal - home.

- GoodOldChapRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Welp I'm the first review and I'll just start by saying I like it
No trace of the usual RRL horrible grammar/writing
Female MC, which I personally like to see (I'm a man), for those of you put off by female MC's I would say that it hasn't played a big role in the story so far. As long as it doesn't turn into some goopy starcrossed/destined lover bullsh*t I'll be happy
Anyway I think it's good, it's not perfect obvi but this is the 1st review so I thought I'd be generous - Corwin BenedictRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0What a fantastic story. I couldn't put it down for a second, which sucked, because I was reading it at 1 in the morning on a day that I had to get up for a meeting.
I am always amazed by sci-fi authors who manage to put a whole different universe together. To do that properly can take some work. So cudos to you for that.
The only issue I can see with this story is that sometimes the author doesn't describe things properly. Things will kinda just appear out of nowhere, or a room full of panels that was across from the MC will suddenly be down the hall and to the right of the MC.
Other than that, I have enjoyed this fantastic ride. Thank you for giving your gift to the world Inorai. - HumblevagrantRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love this story so far and can't wait to read more.
- SajRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Halfway to Home is a sci-fi story about a kidnapped human girl having to endure strange new experiences in her effort to obtain freedom, and ultimately, a way home.
Style and Grammar
The author exudes professional experience in their writing, with every bit of it excellent in it's presentation and execution, the quality instantly as soon as the first chapter. You will not have any issue following the story or the action.
Story
The story has progression, and it has a road for the future filled with possibilities. You won't be left worrying about filler content or anything of that, as everything continues in a fashion that keeps the reader interested without losing steam. There are times when the action settles down, the characters interact, but there is never a time when you're uncertain if something is going to happen, but knowing that something will inevitably happen. The only issue that I personally have with the story, is that it feels lackluster on the sci-fi aspect. There are aliens, which the author does a fantastic job of making varied, but the technology aspect of everything feels underwhelming at times as it feels rather stale.
Characters
The characters in the story are very good, with personalities easy to feel and reactions that feel organic. For the most part. I'm not going to go into detail on each and every character, because they are are all unique at the least, but I will touch on the main character, Sam.
For the most part, I like Sam. She's fairly robust, realistic, and endearing. An all around good main character. But she has blemishes, and they start to show after the first major event concludes. Where as she starts off as somewhat decisive, she becomes exceptionally melancholic. I understand that the author's purpose is to show off her emotions from being home sick and other factors, but it starts to erode the character's core that she worked so hard on at the start. Where she's presented with brand new experiences, she quite literally at times c - ErxenRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Halfway to home is a classic sci-fi story in that nothing in it is very new. Every thing here as already been written one way or another.
Is it a bad thing? No. This fiction is a solid space adventure, written without mishaps or mistakes. Everything works and is believable. There are no blatant clichés or pointless chapters. Everything serves a purpose and it works.
A lot of work has been put into this fiction, and I can't imagine the author not having their story already prepared (or at least the overall plot).
I have only one complaint about it : the names of the characters tend to be on the simple side of names. Don't hesitate to make something exhuberant.
Read it, it's definitely one of the best things on RRL. - BarnmaddoRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0For some reason I find this story very stressful. Even after 22 chapters the characters are all still highly strung and constantly on the edge of an emotional break down. The prose and conversations rarely flow smoothly. Sometimes it's so thin it's hard to keep track of what's going on, other times it drags on. Like I think several times a character had to walk down a hallway or something, and we get a paragraph of introspection, then someone yelling at them to hurry up, then another paragraph of introspection, and this just keeps repeating over and over.
I guess I think the writing style is a bit too edgy, and could use some more exposition to tie it together. Not like paragraphs of exposition, but a sentence to explain what the characters are randomly sighing about, or to confirm what they mean when they say something obscure.
Otherwise I rather like the story. - mightykkRoyal Road★★★ 2.5I read this to the end, and boy was that a slog.
I persisted , since the premise was interesting and the plot original. 4.5 star for story score.
The dialog is terrible however and kind of ruined the entire experience.
In early chapters it seems like characters are constantly interrupting each other. This disrupts the narrative flow.
Later this reduces a bit, however this makes other flaws more noticable. The MC has an attention span a goldfish would hold in contempt. The MC is shown to be in the middle of something, and then they are reminded to do that same thing (by themselves, others or the author's narrative) in the very next sentence. This carries on thru a large portion of the novel. 2 stars for style
Since the author chose to drive the characterization by dialog and the dialig sucks, 2 stars for characterization.
Over all, the story has good potential, but author needs to improve their writing aesthetic.
