- Allan VRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have avoided reading this novel for some time now because it had a female lead. I have nothing against female leads, just a matter of preference.
That was a grave mistake on two accounts.
First, is that I almost missed on a top-shelf novel. The story was well-planned, the execution was flawless, and the characters were nothing short of endearing. I was hooked. I found myself cheering, crying, and saluting while binge-reading for 2 days.
My second mistake was that the true protagonist is not female and neither was he human.
The Grand Design is an epic and thrilling tale of a dog who, along with his captain, was dragged along by two borderline psychotic warrior sisters on an impossible quest to change the fate of the universe. - Doctor ZeroRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0People often say it's hard to find good sci-fi on Royal Road. Well, here it is. It's base is a space marine story, but it's shot through with mind bending weirdness and delightful surprises.
10 stars. Read it. - ToastRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0(review to part 10)
This is an above average sci-fi space opera with a hint of HFY. I highly recommend you read Part 1 and see if it hooks you like this managed to hook me. Quality is quite high. - jmc5003Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really enjoyed this book. Everything I've read that was written by TMarkos has been engrossing and fun to read. I strongly recommend this book, along with everything else I've read by this author. Lots of twists and turns, great story line, well developed characters. I'm so glad I found Royal Road!
- FlavarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Wow, what a great story. I can't wait to see how it goes on.
It's the best sci-fi story I have read on royal road so far and I will hopefully be able to buy it as an ebook one day.
Don't miss out on this, - IvanhermanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I made an RR account just so I could rate this: great writing, great story, nice comments from the author at each chapter and great closure at the end.
- JuneauRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Genuinely a great read from start to finish.
It had all the elements of a great novel, a great scifi and no cliffhangers but you always end the chapter wanting more.
A must read. - Live2skiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The writing of this story was excellent and I want to specifically compliment the world building. It was a pleasure to discover the universe and history as imagined by the author, which only very broadly resembled anything I'd read before. There was quite a lot of new and interesting wrinkles in the world lore that had me getting distracted from the main conflict.
Last, I want to also call out the pacing. This story accomplished a lot in a very reasonable length. Where the action picked up, the sequences were impactful, and when the stress of a deadline hung over the characters, it felt real and imminent. Well written top to bottom. - FerrouswheelRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Far future Sci-Fi story where all that remains of humanity is galaxy spanning space stations, a few military androids and dogs.
The androids are working on their final mission to attempt to make sure that the enemy that destroyed humanity isn't able to wipe civilization from the universe again, and by doing so get revenge.
The dogs just want to live ther best life. - korentin_blackRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5A galaxy existing in the shards and tatters of a long dead humanity sketched out in terms just vivid enough to work without wasting time on minutiae. Characters drawn in much the same way with their humanity largely independent of their species. A genuinely cunning plan to bring down what amounts to a technological god.
Yeah, this is actually pretty damn good all through, and if I had a complaint it's that I was left wanting a couple of epilogues - not, I feel, something I can be too judgemental about.
