Golpar is an odd novel, in that it feels more like a collection of the most improtant scenes of a novel, without the connective tissue.
Big moments happen but none of the small scenes are presence. The plot beats that build up the freindship and express the characters, just aren't here. 10k could be added to this book with ease and then some.
Story and Characters - Golpar is in a wierd grey area where it could just be an extended flashback scene in its parent series, or a short flashback novel in said series. It is neither. Its far too shallow and short to be a novel, far to long and unfocused to be a flashback, and thus it suffers greatly.
There is a magician, he came to their school for unknone reasons and then leaves just as fast.
There is a rich protag, who's father sets a bizare quest, the answer to which is as predictable as it is unsatisfying.
Natsume sure is here too. I don't even know what Granny Yaga looks like😅.
This is to say, for a very simple story, nothing is really here. The theme seems to be that anyone can be extraordinary regardless of generation talent, but it doesn't really even say that. Rich boy makes a good choice (kind of) and the book ends. Its all very one note.
The characters are atleast fun. They seem likeable. That said I know very little about them, and thats unfortunate.
Grammer and Style - All is mostly well here. Chapters are a very comfortable lenght, no/very few typos - Voice and tone are fairly consistent.
Terrible pacing and a lack of meaningful desciption for almost everything and everyone, are less impressive feats.
Conclusion - If Golpar is of no intrest to the author, I would strongly suggest condensing it into a brief flashback arc for the parent series.
That said, I personally feel there are the bones of a very nice novel here. 10-20k words of connective scenes, descriptions and tying loose ends, could transform the wieghtless finale scenes, into actually impactful moments.
The characters have potineital and the theme coul
