- BardLyreRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Oh boy, this is a hoot. This book is an absolute rollercoaster of absurdity and hilarity, and it's just what you need to lighten up a dreary day. Let's talk about our guy Bob. He's your average, everyday Joe, who gets yanked from his bathtub (mid-soak, mind you!) into a wild, mud-filled adventure. The sheer ridiculousness of Bob's predicament is pure gold. One minute he's worrying about a bug ticket at work, and the next, he's knee-deep in mud, battling a boar and trying to make a loincloth from its hide. The characters are delightfully quirky, with Bob's inner monologue stealing the show. His sardonic humor and unfiltered thoughts make him instantly relatable. The writing style is breezy and light, with a sprinkle of wry humor that keeps you chuckling from start to finish. The grammar is spot-on, making the silliness easy to follow. The author has a knack for blending the mundane with the fantastical, creating a narrative that’s both engaging and laugh-out-loud funny. And can we talk about those achievements? Watching Bob grapple with the universe’s cheeky notifications is a hoot. It’s like life’s cruelest video game, but Bob’s tenacity and wit make it all the more entertaining. If you're in the mood for a frothy, lighthearted romp that doesn’t take itself too seriously, you’ve got to pick this up. Highly recommended for anyone needing a good laugh and an escape from the ordinary!
- Bark TwainRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Fall from Grace [Man and Dog LitPRG]is a humorous, satirical take on the LitRPG genre, blending mundane life with absurd survival challenges. The story follows Bob, an ordinary man thrust into a game-like world where he must navigate ridiculous trials, often with a heavy dose of self-deprecating humor. The early chapters set the tone for a lighthearted, character-driven narrative that plays on common tropes in the genre. The writing style is casual, with a strong focus on humor and irony. The tone is conversational, often breaking the fourth wall to engage directly with the reader. This style effectively highlights the absurdity of Bob's situation and enhances the comedic elements of the story. The pacing is steady, with enough descriptive detail to paint a clear picture of Bob's predicaments without slowing the narrative. The story begins with Bob, a disgruntled QA engineer, who is suddenly thrust into a bizarre, game-like world after a long, frustrating day. As he faces a series of challenges, including a stubborn boar and an unforgiving system, the plot humorously explores themes of survival, luck, and the arbitrary nature of video game logic. The narrative is driven by Bob’s reactions to these challenges, with each chapter escalating the absurdity of his situation. The grammar is generally solid, with clear and concise sentences that are easy to follow. The dialogue is natural and reflects the characters' personalities well. There are occasional stylistic choices, such as fragmented sentences and informal language, that enhance the comedic tone. These choices are intentional and contribute to the overall feel of the story.Bob is the central character, and his personality drives the narrative. He is portrayed as an everyman—relatable, cynical, and often exasperated by the ridiculous circumstances he finds himself in. His internal monologue is a key feature, offering a humorous commentary on the events unfolding around him. The boar, while not a character in the trad
- Mesa MesaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Our whimsical protagonist, aptly named Bob, finds himself ensnared in a delightful blend of humor and adventure within a fantastical world. After an unexpectedly rough start, Bob stumbles into a series of absurd predicaments, navigating a narrative brimming with witty inner monologues and playful tones. It’s akin to watching a charming, if somewhat disheveled, hero flounder through a comedy of errors. I loved the satirical tone.
Bob’s earnest attempts to overcome these trials add a layer of charm, making his struggles both endearing and amusing. His resilience shines through, even as he tackles increasingly ridiculous challenges with a blend of determination and humor. While the pacing may feel a little draggy at times, it’s more than compensated for by the unique storytelling style employed by the author, who demonstrates a masterful command of the English language. The writing style may also be a little abstract for some readers, but its not overly complicated as well. The various random yet amusing analogies and references add a flavorful touch to the story. Grammar too has no issues.
Overall, this story offers a fun and imaginative journey, with its blend of humor, heart and a rootable protagonist ensuring a memorable and enjoyable experience. If you're looking for a unique, comedic twist on a classic adventure tale, this story is the one for you. - DeepFreezeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I say frustratingly good because of how much Bob has to bumble in the dark trying to figure out what to do even though it seems from our perspective that he has all the tools he needs. It's Litrpg done right. No more 'brrrr numbers go up'. The 2 main characters are extremely well written. At no point does the dog not act exactly how a dog would, no matter how much the world seems to have changed
I truly envy the creativity of Bob's mind sometimes (and therefore the author's). The self deprecating internal monologues, wry humour, sassy inner voices and the colourful personalities he imagines all make this story an excellent read. Nothing is too over the top or seems as if it's trying too hard.
It's not all humour however. Scenes with tension are masterfully written, there's a meaty plot you can sink your teeth into, lots of points where you go 'Ohhh, so that's what that was earlier', and no overt expositioning. The writing really flows too. Minor errors, if any, are easily forgivable (and are almost all corrected quickly anyway)
All in all, I would recommend this 100% to anyone I know who takes LitRPG too seriously. Great stuff. - DoseiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The premise is handled in a very entertaining way and I quite enjoy the system messages and how they're formatted.
The writing is excellent and humorous, and I absolutely love the part where Bob completely covers himself in mud just to get a "trivial bonus" to his stats, lol.
This is an novel that's totally being slept on. Read it and have a laugh. It's genuinely so much fun.

George is the goodest good boy. - Eldar92Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I usually never read non-popular Royal Road stories - the risk to reward ratio is too high and chances that I'll find something good are so low I don't bother.
However, I saw an ad about this book, praising one chapter and it got me intrigued. The start was alright, the prose a little too quirky and the protagonist infuriatingly incompetent. The story was not amazing but it still kept my interest.
Then, everything changed after Chapter 19. I was hooked. It was honestly incredible, some of the best build up and writing I've read, I still cherish it a few months later. I don't want to hype it up but give this story a try, at least until Chapter 19 and then you'll know. - ChickenFriedRiceRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It seemed like a standard system initiation story, but im amazed by the way the author is able create such genuine tension in each chapter, and there are some AMAZING moments like the roulette scene. I love how laid back the MC is and the little author notes with the dog at the end of each chapter. 10/10 would recommend
- CogsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Wry humour, novelty abound, and the constant, ticking pressure of apocalyptic proportions. What's not to love?
Style: Brilliant style. Since it's written from Bob's POV, the style is mixed with Bob's character as he gives hilarious colour commentary on the situations that happen.
Besides that, the writing style provides detailed description of scenes which makes it easy to imagine what's happening; there's tension when things get dicey; and there's a sense of tightness about the chapters that tell you they've been gone over multiple times to cut out the fluff.
I also liked the subtle humour included in the System messages, as the overly-snarky ones in other stories can feel like too much at times, and the way it's done here is far more to my liking.
Story: Having read many LitRPG apocalypse stories, it's refreshing to read one where I literally don't know where it's going. For example, who would imagine that one of the system challenges for Bob to overcome is literally gambling in a casino? And that scene really works too.
The series of constant novelty from one scene to the next is akin to being drip-fed a constant supply of dopamine, similar to how it would have felt reading your first LitRPG apocalypse story when all the things that would eventually become genre tropes were still novel and exciting.
Grammar: There were no grammatical issues I noticed that took me out of the reading experience.
Character: Bob keeps great cheer despite the literal apocalyptic scenarios he's going through, and Bob is funny in each of them. The voice that carries you along the story, that provides colour commentary on the scenes, is one of the highlights of this story for me and certainly fits the overarching satirical nature.
In particular, I wanted to bring up the General-Sergeant interactions in chapter 3, which stuck in my memory even though it was at the start as it was a brilliant execution of how to make a character pondering through a problem/planning into something that's fu - Mridula RRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Holy Gods this is so good, thank you author for taking me back to my twenties.. I love dogs and started reading for George but George hasn't even made a proper appearance yet and I feel Bob. I usually wait a while to write reviews as it's not possible to get a proper feel too early but sometimes the writing speaks to me and even if there are any plot holes, problems or jarring things, I automatically become a fan.
Like I said - the early twenties were pretty much this for me too - not sure if I can describe it so well but I too was self centered and generally average I probably would have pretty much been like Bob especially in the secret room haha.
Also dogs - thats a big plus so hope George is as easily acceptable as Bob. Another thing is, I feel a good PG Wodehouse vibe so far - I remember cackling similarly for Bertie. The humour is my type of humor.
Early in the story yet - but loving it so far, kudos to the author! Well written thank you!
