- AstramoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have been looking for new stories to read for a while now and found this one today. This one is almost perfect in my opinion. The only thing keeping it from being pure perfection for me is that it has too few chapters. I hope the author doesn't drop this novel and continue it for all the day to come.
- Blind Snot DragonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Like a bandaid let's rip the bad news off quickly.
The main character is probably the least interesting character (to me) and the kingdom building/leveling feels a bit awkward or stunted at times.
That said the author and story are rapidly getting better with every chapter. I almost dropped at ch 6 but thankfully stuck with it and things rapidly got more interesting.
There is also a level of dues ex machina that can detract from the story at times
Mostly for the author (Hi ☺️):
The whole archmage character feels more like a plot crutch than a character (props on him manipulating MC, excellent job)
The shape shifter definitely felt like a piece of plot armor waiting to slide into place. Just as the dwarves feel a little too directly delivered to the MC and a little too eager to build for the MC. I mean they literally came up through a crevice in the MC s house(cave).
That said considering the overall potential (High) and Author's planned release I am very happy to follow and recommend this story to all who are looking for a tasty story to crunch! - Blind_WatcherRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Probably my favourite Litrpg so far. The chapters are on the smaller side, but they get a lot done and focus on what's important and interesting. This is still relatively early days, but Iw ouldn't be surprised if Gargoyle reached Rising Stars in the near future.
Grammar: A few mistakes earlier on, but nothing major. Definitely improves as the story goes on.
Character: B.G. does a good job at establishing character motivations in very short spaces of time. It's impressive. Beyond deliberate tension building moments, I don't there was ever a moment where I thought "Why is so and so doing that?".
Style: The shorter chapter lengths could ahve easily been the weak point for this story. With a much more limitted amount of space for establishing character devlpment and pushing the narrative forward. However, B.G. has done a great job at keeping Gargoyle on task without becoming flippant. A great deal happens in relatively short spans of word count, but it doesn't feel in any way rushed.
Story: Monster progressions have a typical flow to them most of the time. Monster exists, murders people, murders more people. It's nice to see Gargoyle setting it's own path. There will no doubt be conflicts with people in the future, but it's a nice change of pace to not have people on the menu from chapter one. Despite the smaller chapter's, the story of Malik doesn't feel rushed, and I really appreciated that while reading.
My biggest complaint is that there is nothing left to read right at this moment xD
keep up the good work B.G. - Rhea BringRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a fun tale with a side dash of exciting things to come. The world building and descriptions are on point. The style here is really what caught my attention as I forgot I was reading words on a page. Very few typo or structure errors. Haven't seen much from the overall story-arc or the MC as of yet, but it is a promising tale so far.
Update at Chapter 14. Going to merely say what I mentioned above has only grown better. The world building is thoroughly thought out. Details are descriptive without being boring. Fight scenes are on point.
~ Characters: the MC is growing on me. He's a bit naive (completely understandable) but I want to cheer for him as he is a likable character overall. He has an almost childlike hunger for knowledge and exploration, and seeing him succeed at certain things has been a blast. Side characters are slowly introduced and feel fleshed out so far. Still excited to see where this story goes.
~ Style. Flowing and immersive with some structure errors that are few and far between. Some show vs. tell, but it almost feels better that way. Simpler to read and envision. Overall, very well done and completely enjoyable.
~ Story: Still seeing this unfold, so will reserve judgement for future chapters. But will say it's been highly fun so far.
~ Grammar: Maybe one mistake per chapter? Being a beta reader, my brain is programmed to catch these things, and that I didn't catch more is pretty awesome. Kudos to the author here for sure!
This is a blast wrapped in an easy-to-read package that will have you cheering and laughing. It's a light-hearted read so far and the character introductions have been super fun.
Will continue reading. - The_Great_ZaxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is great so far. I only have 1 real complaint, and that is that there isn't more of it for me to binge read!!!
I am so excited to see where this goes and can already say when the author gets far enough ahead and opens a Patreon, he has at least 1 subscriber. - UncasualliverRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is my kind of story good character progression the MC is learning but is not a dumbass like some authors make their characters. Very must like the level and stat progression and I love kingdom building stories. Also enjoy the monster main character and other fantasy race so far.
- moredreadRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Malik becomes sentient as a stone gargoyle. As the first of his kind he wants to build a community.
So we get some interesting racial building. Its a little early so we havent got any enemies yet. But looking forward to seeing how this goes.
Can easily recommend this - king slothRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5its a great start to a good novel as long as it keeps the tone steady in the long haul. Most kingdom bulders lose that essence of early struggle for small gains, with this twist I have high hopes. I finished all 7 chapters faster than I could blink, definitely keeping my eye on this one.
- ShaneL2018Royal Road★★★ 3.0This is a great premise, first of a kind etc., with settlement building layered in. Unfortunately, the character development and pacing need some work - It uses a lot of plot elements from other stories (which is fine) but is too light on character building. You need to make the chapters longer and spend more time on fleshing out the characters motivations etc - otherwise it becomes more of a "tell story" than an immersive one
- wait a minuteRoyal Road★★ 1.5i want to start out to say that if more chapters get published, i will change this review.
when i started this book, i thought it was pretty good. it has a lot of potential, and i was excited to see where it would go. until i got to the last chapter, that is. you see, there's not a lot of chapters published and like me you may think "oh! it's new!" no. wrong. it's because the author simply stopped writing. do not start this book if you want a book to follow along with and finish. it ends abruptly with an authors note saying that the author is less busy and will have time to write. if they are writing, they aren't publishing it on RR. it's been almost three months with no note saying the writing has been paused for any reason, just a tag saying it is on hiatus.
thus, i recommend not reading this.
