Description
Devin Stringer arrived in Teth with nothing but brand-new superpowers and a talking dog to guide him. Alongside his companions, he's fought living trees, crazy spirits, and a bunch of medieval super-villains bent on killing him – or worse, recruiting him to their side.
He never asked for any of this. Devin was perfectly content with his life as a bachelor gamer back on Earth. Half the people in this new world are trying to kill him, and the other half are looking to him to save them.
Now Devin has been whisked away to an undersea Dungeon with only a magical symbiote to keep him company. Together, they have to find a way to finish the Dungeon so he can get back his friends before it’s too late for all of them.
Devin’s not sure what’s going on in this new world, but he knows one thing - anyone who gets in his way is going to be sorry.

- Echo and CroftRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Hello! I had an absolutely fantastic time reading the first 30,000 words of Gamebreaker. I am completely hooked and will definitely be continuing on to see where this journey goes. Thank you for sharing it with me.
The Story kicks off at a sprint, throwing the reader right into the deep end. For me, the plot and pacing truly found their footing in Chapter 3, which gave a perfect moment for the characters and the world to breathe. From there, the story balances its pacing masterfully, moving between brutal, well choreographed action sequences and quiet, emotional chapters that explore the consequences. The discovery in Chapter 16 was a gut wrenching and powerful scene that solidified the stakes and demonstrated a bold, effective storytelling choice.
Without a doubt, the Characters are the story’s greatest strength. Watching Devin’s evolution from a confused but powerful gamer into a reluctant but capable leader is incredibly compelling. His breakdown after the clinic fight was a raw, humanizing moment that felt completely earned. Casey is the absolute heart of this story. Her introduction brilliantly subverts the typical healer trope, and her journey from a silent slave to the inspiring voice of a rebellion is phenomenal. And of course, Milo is a fantastic guide, providing a perfect blend of snark, wisdom, and haughty personality that makes every conversation a delight.
The author’s Style is engaging and seamless. The LitRPG system and the worldbuilding are woven together perfectly. I especially love how the System itself has a personality that evolves into a kind of meta antagonist, getting frustrated with Devin's luck. The lore is delivered through personal testimony, which makes it feel impactful rather than just an info dump. On a technical level, the Grammar is clean and polished. The prose is smooth and professional, which made for a very easy and immersive reading experience with no distracting errors.
Overall, this is a fantastic start to an epic story. You'v - LubjubRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style
Quick, quick witted and backed with a nice dose of action segments. Devin's arrival starts the ever-curious mystery in the background and his powers are just as mysterious. He’s like a glitch, earning power after power yet he remains human for now. The LitRPG is done well and one of the highlights of the story. He’s given so many things, and we only see a very small fraction of that.
Story
I really like that it starts at the deep end. Who is Devin exactly, why is he there. Milo and the rest what the heck is going on. Nothing feels like it doesn’t belong in the story. We don’t see much of the game breaking nature of Devin just yet, but he’s just constantly bombarded with all these crazy achievements and I’m curious where this will take him. It will be interesting to see if they end up forming a larger group as the story progresses or if his potential OP-ness will negate the need.
Grammar
Nothing felt out of place, it’s a well-polished story.
Character
From what I read of the story there was a small cast that was starting to lead up into a much bigger and grander one. Devin is in the deep end but adapting to life in the new world. Though he should probably find himself a healer. His reactions to having to deal with people and chaotically charged trees alike is fun to read with his dry wit and being a sarcasm champ. Supported by his guide the lovably unapologetic Milo the talking cat that is masquerading as a dog. For that extra mind-F goodness. Some of the side characters have been a good laugh like the immediate redneck like individuals Devin first encounters in the new world and must deal with instantly trying to threaten him with a good time.
Overall
A fun filled romp that will keep you reading and wanting more as the plot gets dripped into your veins. Come and join Devin, poor guy needs a hug after all this madness, and I want to see more of this mystery unfolding great job mate. - S.D. HussRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story has a fantastic air of mystery about it. The main character’s powers and circumstances wrap you up almost immediately, and the LitRPG aspect of it really isn’t too jarring.
Style: The style is one of fast paced, well witted dialogue, with sprinkles of action and humor that really sets a good pace and tone for the book so far. The ambiguousness surrounding Devin's powers and how he got to where he is, is something I can appreciate too. A healthy dose of mystery is always fun to experience in new stories, at least for me personally.
Story: Where the story is at my current position in the book is pretty much set up at this point. But you can tell the set up is leading somewhere. The system is pretty solid, and all the stuff that's being flung at the main character, I'm pretty optimistic in seeing where it’s going. Without spoiling anything, I can say that I am happy with the direction.
Characters: Right now, there are two characters of note. Devin, our protagonist, and Milo, a talking cat… who’s really a dog… but not. The dynamic between these two characters is pretty entertaining to read about, and their personalities work seamlessly with each other. There are some other side characters, but it’s more about how Devin and Milo react to them, then the characters themselves at this point.
Grammar: I am not an editor, but I have not seen anything that has really stuck out to me as egregious.
Overall: This is a wonderful LitRPG story so far, and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in a fun and witty read. - CaptainObviousRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Gave this one a fair shake and gotta say, it was a pretty good all-around LitRPG read. I'll break down my exact thoughts on it in a second, but for the reader interested in maybe picking this up my short answer is this: If what you're looking for is a competent execution of the genre, you've come to the right place.
Now, let's break this down piece by piece. Keep in mind that these are mainly my nitpicks, and didn't really harm my enjoyment of the reading material. Ergo, it shouldn't hurt yours either.
Style: For most people I can see this one being bumped up to 5 stars without question, but as someone who painstakingly reads and rereads sections and paragraphs to self-improve I noticed one big thing that I usually try to avoid.
He said, she said.
It's like stock sound effects in movies. It's my version of the Wilhelm scream. The basic premise is that when dialog pops up in the story, a pattern tends to develop in the back and forth: "blah blah blah," he said, "blah blah blah blah," she said. The pattern is very prevalent in at least the first few chapters, and after a while I did tune it out, but a little variety would immediately boost things for me.
Story: First chapter is a pretty solid opener, but be warned after the first fight things slow down a good bit while the System-related infodumps happen. However, things pick right back up once all the number-crunching stuff is sorted at around Chapter 10, and things really start hitting their stride once Chapter 12 rolls around and the main cast start getting a chance to properly interact with one another. So stick around, it does actually become worth it in the end.
Character: This one might seem weird to place at 4 stars when the praise from the last section came from the characters interacting, but there's a point I feel needs making that also ties into the story section above.
The main cast can all be pretty easily summarized as, 'the OP former gamer, the smarmy talking animal guide, and the horrifically treated - Eva_EverquillRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The story begins with a slow introduction to the system, which comes with a slightly sarcastic attitude. While the tone can feel mechanical and repetitive at times, this is understandable and quite common in LitRPGs, where the system often plays a structured and consistent role. It may not appeal to every reader, but it does lay a solid foundation for the mechanics that follow. Once the actual narrative begins, the story becomes more engaging and immersive.
One of the standout moments was the introduction of the talking dog, Milo. It was a fun and unexpected twist that caught me off guard, just as it did Devin. Milo’s insistence that he's a cat, despite clearly looking and acting like a dog, adds a quirky and absurd charm. As a dog person, I’ll continue seeing him as a dog — even when he transforms.
There were no glaring grammatical errors that pulled me out of the story. Devin occasionally seems slow to react, but that might be due to his injuries or the confusion caused by his situation. Chapter 3 does slow the pace with heavier exposition, mainly through dialogue and system commentary. Personally, I prefer learning about game mechanics through action rather than explanation. Still, the story blends charm, humor, and just enough action to keep the plot moving at a moderate pace. It should appeal to LitRPG fans who enjoy classic game mechanics with a lighthearted twist.
