Description
Is it hard for a Game Creator to stand out? Isn't it just aboutcopyingmaking fun games?
Theo woke up in a world where monsters constantly invade the Earth and one of the most popular ways for humans to become strong enough to deal with the monsters is through"Games".
"Games"where players are transported to a virtual world and convert the strength, equipment and skills gained to the real world!
Theo's new identity in this world is as a Game Creator, the creator of these virtual worlds for Players to become stronger.
But the life of a Game Creator is hard, his value is measured based on how many Players play his games, and Theo is the worst Game Creator in the university.
Worried about the future, Theo looked for popular games in this world and realized that they were all extremely boring and tedious.
"To become more powerful, don't I just need to make good games? With so many good games in my memory, can't I just use these ideas to become the Greatest Game Creator?!"
With this in mind, the Greatest Game Creator emerged, scaring all other Game Creators and Players around the world.
Do humans need to be this weak physically and magically? My next CardGame will completely hook you.
Do humans need to train gun shooting and skill use? I'll introduce you to the concept of Hero Shooter.
Is our military command getting weak? Nothing better than a good RTS to train you to command an army of thousands.
"You weren't lazy about getting stronger, you just weren't having enough fun while getting stronger before I came along."- Theo Brooks, the Game Creating revolutionary.

- WizardKikiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is such a breath of fresh air. The premise of using games as a way to train and grow stronger isn’t something I’ve seen done quite like this before. What makes it even better is how much effort the author has clearly put into making the games feel real and engaging.
Read about a MC making games besides playing games is something I didnt knew I need lol.
The MC ok+. He’s not overpowered in the usual sense, but his intelligence, system and creativity make him very interesting to read. Watching him figure out how to solve problems and improve his games is just as entertaining as the action scenes of other novels. The side characters also add a lot to the story, especially when they react to the MC’s creations.
I also appreciate the worldbuilding. It’s not overly complicated, but it’s clear there’s a lot going on behind the scenes. The connection between magic and game development is really clever, and it adds an extra layer to the story.
If I had to describe this novel in one word, it would be “engaging.” From the characters to the games to the world itself, everything feels carefully crafted to keep you invested. I’ve enjoyed every chapter so far and can’t wait to see what the author has planned next. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into fantasy with a creative twist. - golldrumRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading, but this story really surprised me in the best way. The concept of combining magic, game development and dungeons is unique, and the way it’s executed makes it feel fresh and exciting.
One thing that really stands out is how much thought the author has put into the mechanics of the games in the story. They feel detailed and believable, almost like you could play them yourself. It’s not just about the MC making games; it’s about how those games impact the world and the people around him. The interactions between the players and the MC’s creations add a lot of depth to the narrative.
The pacing has been steady, and there’s a good balance between explaining the world and keeping the story moving. The system isn’t overwhelming or overly complicated, which is a big plus for me. It supports the story without taking the spotlight, which is how I think systems should be used.
Overall, this has been a really enjoyable read. The mix of creativity, strategy, and fantasy makes it stand out from other novels I’ve read in this genre. If you like stories where the MC builds something meaningful while also changing the world, I’d highly recommend giving this one a try. I’m excited to see how it develops! - MachomachoteRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0From the very first chapter, Runestone hooks readers with a fresh premise and clever execution. What starts as a seemingly small project from a student quickly turns into a story of ambition, strategy, and competition in a world where video games are not just entertainment, but tools for personal growth.
One of the strongest aspects of the story is its pacing: it doesn’t linger on unnecessary explanations nor rush through important moments, allowing the reader to absorb details without feeling overwhelmed. Additionally, the game’s evolution within the story feels natural and well-structured, making even those who aren’t fans of card games interested in the mechanics and strategy behind Runestone.
The characters are also a big strength. Theo, with his calm confidence and strategic mindset, is an easy protagonist to follow and admire. His response to Evans in the cafeteria was a particularly satisfying moment, showing his growth and establishing that he’s not your typical antisocial genius, but someone who understands the value of success in a competitive environment. Natalie, on the other hand, provides the player’s perspective and helps convey the real impact of the game on those who discover it.
Another standout is how the sense of progression and competition is handled. Watching Natalie go from confusion to genuine excitement as she learns to play and improves her rank in Runestone is a joy to read. Her development feels authentic, and the way the game manages to captivate her for six hours without her even realizing it is a perfect nod to the addictive nature of great strategy games.
Runestone has all the elements of an engaging story: a solid premise, interesting characters, and well-executed development. If it keeps up this pace and expands its world, it could easily become a must-read for fans of competition and personal growth stories.
If there’s anything that could be improved, it would perhaps be the depth of descriptions in some key scenes. At times, the s - Santiago PetersonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I came to read this from a post in another of the writer's novels and i can't get enough.
I seriously love the satisfactory progression and the way the story is laid out to us. I can already see the MC becoming something like fromsoftware and releasing lots of banger games!!!
Seriously love the progression, really gets the dopamine going! - Shades98Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0New world, old problems, new ways to gain strength use fun for training instead of being boring.
So that is the premise for this whole book, build games, get stronger by making people stronger, but you've just been sent to a world that the game makers haven't understood the joy of how to use making a fun game be the basis for getting stronger.
I have enjoyed these chapters and can't wait till the next set of chapters and it is interesting to see where this book goes. - AlienBookaholicRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm really enjoying reading this! Highly recommend to others to give this a read too! Very much like the idea of the game creation system and I look forward to seeing how it develops.
Found this from a shout out on another story. I'm glad I checked it out.
Thank you NunuXD! Keep up the good work. - Tindleford TomajonRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0From 11 chapters on the first day, then mismatched releases ever since, despite claiming they are 20+ chapters ahead on Patreon.
the story is great, but not knowing when another chapter is coming makes it really hard to look forward to the next release. Even if it’s a new chapter a week, I don’t mind, but sitting in suspense of wether another of the fabled 20 extra chapters are coming isn’t fun. - pseudohistorianRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Decent story so far without anything I would call a major flaw, if you like the genre it represents. Minor spelling errors or such are few but not absent. If there is one thing I dislike, it’s that the story is too incomplete to be called good, and the author only uploads whenever he feels like despite advertising daily uploads. Thanks for what you have written so far, though, author, it’s worth the read.
- Confused GooseRoyal Road★★★ 3.0I actually like this story, although it's not amazingly unique there are enough interesting points to keep my interest. I also have a monkey brain and enjoy reading about games so recreating hearthstone in another world is fun.
The problems begin with the author, it's the second story of his that I read and they both have the same issue. They get randomly abandoned. Daily uploads turn into sporadic once every couple of weeks uploads, without any kind of warning. Do authors need breaks and time for themselves? OF COURSE! Should we at least get an author note about the delays? Probably... Honestly, it almost feels like an attempt to funnel people into Patreon before dropping the story to start a new one. Maybe I'm a bit of a doomer but the previous story has been silently dripped, which does not inspire hope here. - dudeeRoyal Road★★ 2.0Apparently, the MC will "revolutionize" the world by creating games that are actually fun. Meanwhile, others can't do the same because the MC is the only creative character and everyone else are NPCs... Great... The concept of game creation and playing games as means of getting strong is nice, but the execution on this one leaves much to be desired.
1. Style (0.5/5): The writing feels reminiscent of a typical Chinese webnovel (which is not always bad... however, this time, it is). It borrows heavily from some of the most overused and frustrating tropes of the genre, such as repetitive drama, face-slapping, poorly handled confrontations, and the notorious "young master" archetype. The lack of originality in these aspects drags the story down significantly.
2. Story (3/5): While the concept is intriguing, the worldbuilding severely undermines its potential. The idea of "Games" as a medium for human growth could have been fascinating, but the story portrays a world where everyone except the protagonist lacks creativity or ingenuity. It’s hard to believe that in a universe built around game creation and gaming to get stronger, no one else can come up with engaging ideas. The explanation that it's because of the monster invasions that people became less fun is too lacking and absurd when various means of having fun has existed even before electronic games were invented... This glaring flaw detracts from the immersion.
3. Characters (0.5/5): The characters are flat and lack any personality. They feel more like puppets than actual people, existing solely to either praise or oppose the protagonist. Everyone is perpetually in awe of the MC’s actions, which quickly becomes repetitive and tedious. A stronger focus on meaningful interactions and well-made characters would have greatly enhanced the story.
4. Grammar (4/5): It's okay, I guess... Atleast, it's readable enough...
Sure, the story is still pretty new, but I can already see the wasted potential based on the first few
