Description
Rejoice Humanity! You have been invited to join the Galactic Hegemon.
It is time for our Centenary Caste Competition. The best 1% of humanity will be given a 1 cycle tutorial before the 5 cycle contest.
Be brave, be bold, but most of all, be strong and earn your place and privileges.
Burning red letters hung large in the vision of everyone on earth that knew a written language. At the same moment that smartest, fastest, and strongest people on the planet disappeared with nothing to mark their passing. After a cycle of training and growth they would compete to earn their place in their suddenly expanded galaxy. This is not their story.
Joe did his best to take care of his parents house and stay healthy. He was the only one of the four family members not chosen. The societal upheaval made by the announcement made the inflation and purges of the 20's seem pleasant by comparison but he keeps his head down and survives. Once the next message arrives 11 months later about the contest starting, even that society broke down into city states around large population centers. Joe tightened his belt and looked forward to the day that his family returned. Two years later burning red letters once again filled his vision.
Humanity, the last of your competitors have been eliminated.
Your determined caste level is 13 of 13.
As such your planet has been claimed and will be repurposed for ideal resource production. Rifts will be seeded across the planet to increase resources and mana density. Your orbit will be corrected to ideal Hegemon standard. Do not interfere with any Hegemon activity, as the bottom caste you have no rights.
Rejoice that all castes receive at least the basic Hegemon Growth System.
Better luck next century.
Joe didn't comprehend any of it. His family was dead. Everything he cared about was gone.

- minooRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you enjoy stories where power isn't just given to the MC, he has to struggle to figure it out, and gain power, this novel is for you.
The novel is realistic and our MC is weak. He dones't know how the system works and struggles to find his path to power in a world controled by the Council (humans) and the system the his world was thrust into. Despite not leveling intellegence, because who has the time to figure out magic when your about to die from the monsters chasing you, MC clearly has it. He usues his mind to surivve in this brutal world.
The system and charicters seems well thought out so far, im excited to see where this story takes me - 1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0First and foremost, this story is a well-executed system apocalypse, with much more realism than I'm used to. The story is dark and often gritty, which makes sense for the setting, and it fits the flow of the narrative as well.
I like the main character, he is quite sympathetic, and as a bonus, he seems very human. The choices he makes, while not always perfect, are at least understandable, and there is logic shown behind it.
Overall, it's good. Give it a shot, especially if you like the genre! - moredreadRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A very very realistic system apocalypse story. Dont have many hard numbers but it seems like a good portion of the population of the world didn't survive the beginning.
The mc is very easy to root for. He isnt some murder hobo who just starts out killing people. Even though we see hints that that may need to happen in the future.
The world building is very nice. Although its pretty early we are seeing plenty of hints of what is to come. I like how even though its not pronounced, we see the difference when he starts raising his stats. But this is done with a light touch.
Looking forward to seeing how this goes. Highly recommended - WistiwasiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Still haven't read that much of this book yet but so far it's not to bad. The writing is good with no major grammatical errors. The story and power build is a bit slow for me, I prefer a protagonist that develops faster. Still it's better than many out there. As to it being dark, what else can it be in an apocalypse
- mightykkRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is well-written and enjoyable.
Having said that, the other reviews critiquing the MC's character have merit, however, I consider it the author's attempt to show the MC being overwhelmed in the initial chapters. Could it be done better? Probably. However, I didn't find it as objectionable as other reviewers and I've rated this 5 stars.
Grammar: The writing is great. No narrative disrupting grammar or spelling mistakes.
Style: The prose is smooth and enjoyable.
Story: The author seems to have plotted out the story and seems to have a plan. The sequence of events to add Diana to Joe's party was well executed and did not seem forced.
Character: This is where you might be bothered if you are bothered by such things as Joe (the MC) and Diana (the first fleshed-out supporting character) identically hold an extremely defeatist and pessimistic view of human society.
The premise of humans organizing themselves in a 'council' which rules thru force and the platform of being 'stupid-evil' seems to imply that others (background characters and the setting) share similar views on human nature.
If this is the kind of thing that bothers you, I would suggest looking for another story.
For myself, I take the implied assumptions in the setting and the MC's characterisation as the flavour of the world the author is creating in this story.
If you can as well, then I recommend giving this story a try! - CrowbeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great read. The characters are engaging, particularly the mc. I appreciate that he is working from a position of weakness, getting stronger with almost nothing but grit and some luck. The supporting cast are also well developed and feel worth rooting for.
The grammar/editing is solid, the odd minor error pops up but the author will fix if it's noted in comments.
I personally enjoy the author's style, the pacing in particular works for me. The way he approaches power scaling, risk and reward feels really good.
The story feels consistently well thought out and isn't overly reliant on the genre's tropes. It's well set up to build up into the future with hints at the wider universe and issues that the mc will face, without being unnecessarily doom and gloom.
Overall, worth giving it a shot. - FreyaChevalierRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a LitRPG set in like mid to late post apocalypse modern day USA, it ticks all the boxes for system messages and stats and things. But the best part of this story is that it feels real already, only six chapters in and it feels a lot deeper than a lot of other stories on this site, so for that alone it deserves at least a try!
Grammar and tenses are fine as far as I can see + author writes like they have experience with the genre and format. Overall, no complaints! So please keep on writing :) - GlassSpidersRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far (as of chapter 13) I am enjoying From Nothing a lot. The world is gritty and not a nice place, but well developed for what we have seen so far world building wise. The main character makes choices that have solid reasoning behind them and when he screws up often admits it which makes reading his story easy and enjoyable. The methodical way that he takes things, going one step at a time makes for a realistic logical narrative that makes sense even when he has set backs and misjudgments.
- KorberusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I loved this story, the world build and system are prety good i like how the classes dont give much points and the fact that he can get stats by training, i just wish that the author post more chapters more frequently.
If you like lit rpg that a pretty on to follow up. - Astral464Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really enjoyed this story so far. It has a really nice flow and I don't feel like I'm jumping from one place to another. I have yet to see any grammar or spelling mistakes (maybe a she when it was supposed to be he). I feel the MCs class should be explored more in the future, so far not much has happened
Apart from some emotional influence?
Thought there has been a lot of info dump, its been spread out fairly well. I would like to see the MC find his own rift or some form of progression with peoples views on rifts.
I feel like not everyone has the same mind set that they will never go into a rift.
I really enjoy this novel and will be reading more in the future. Can't wait to see where this goes.♥️
