Description

He was climbing the corporate ladder, now he's climbing the food chain.Felix used to be a traveling salesman, drifting through the galaxy and hawking his wares. Used to be, that is, until a freak accident in an out of the way system. One rough landing later and Felix finds himself stranded on a wild, alien planet-- front and center in a deadly role he never auditioned for to entertain a secret audience. The upside? A fellow passenger made it to the escape pod with Felix. With this reptilian stranger at his side, he’s not totally alone. The downside? They don’t share a language. Worse, there’s not one scrap of survival know-how between them, and an ominous clawing is coming from outside the escape pod.As if the struggle to avoid becoming lunch and finding some of their own wasn’t enough, an autonomous implant from an unknown source seeks to integrate them into the system.

As the review title says, This story is FOOKIN' Wonderful. Yes it can be cheesey at times but I think that is the Humor in it. The pace, style, grammer are all very good. But it is the character that provide the depth to this story. The Author has done an excellent job with their personalities . This one one my Favorite stories and can hardly waith as the chapters come rolling out.

This review is valid as of chapter eleven.
Take one Robinson Crusoe, add a lizard Friday, mix with some gritty space opera and stir with equal parts coldblooded media industry and virtual reality gaming. What do you get?
Two clumsy heroes stranded on a gamified island in space. Now what could possibly go right with this insane scenario? Surprisingly much it turns out.
We have our two deapan heroes, or at least two deadpan-doing-at-least-more-than-just-trying-to-survive main characters. They invent stuff, or rather let a machine invent stuff for them, they banter, they do stupid stuff and smart stuff, and in the end it's altogether an amusing read.
The stranded on an island in space concept limits the cast. Two characters on the island, plus stuff that tries to eat them. That's it for that setting. The rest of the cast is very much reminiscent of the Helliconia trilogy, but in this case the watching audience on Earth is represented by newscasters.
It's gamelit, but it's not the glaring kind of litrpg where status displays interrupt the narrative every page or so. Notably the characters have yet to start comparing levels or anything like that. The status displays are thus far limited to scientific breakthroughs, even though this early in the story their inventing machine has yet to come up with anything as advanced as the wheel.
Mostly flawless English and very minor hiccups in the PoV-departement makes for a pleasant read. The small world is well fleshed out as are the characters. The story, in as much as you'd call it a story, revolves around the daily grind for making the place a better place. For that reason the story reads as slice-of-life, granted a stranded on an uninhabited island kind of slice-of-life.
I've enjoyed the ride up til now, and now for the stars.
Style: Four stars. The jumps between micro-story-arcs are a bit clunky, as are the shifts between main characters and newscasters. I perfectly understand why they're handled as they are, but the clunkynes

Other than a prologue chapter that the author needs to go back and rewrite and remove an annoying amount of commas and periods, it's a damn solid work on all counts.
The story follows a sort of "everyman", but with a twist of being an interesting and affable salesman instead of just some random teenager. Some level of social skills and situational awareness, plus a small handful of believable tools, strike a balance of a character that's not a walking god of hypercompetence, but also not a stupid loser who survives on plot contrivance alone.
I have often said that Common Sense is the most abusive superpower, and this is a story which demonstrates it beautifully.
The plot itself is also interesting, blending "wilderness" survival with some sort of alien Reality TV show with commentary that seems directly inspired by The Running Man. Which is a compliment, because that movie is awesome.
The author could afford smaller, less densely-packed paragraphs, and desperately needs to edit the prologue (I know I would never have read past that if not for the sake of the review), but otherwise this is one of the best stories I've found here or anywhere else in a long, long time.
Unless you have a hatred of science fiction or low key anti-consumerism, in which case I still recommend it but won't be surprised if you won't like it.

Survival if reality TV met up with ARK Survival Evolved.
    Style
The overall style of the story works quite well for the type of tale and perspective it has. The sections where aliens in charge of the survival game  are giving their commentary adds a good flair to the story and provide some relief for whatever grim development happened in the story.
    Story
The concept, mechanics and development of the story is done quite well. The premise of an ARK type survival mixed with reality TV pulled on a gamelit string I didn't realize I wanted filled. The execution of the crafting and advancement system works quite well.
    Grammar
Posibly the largest downside to the story. The sentence structure can be somewhat rough and there is a moderate need for editing, however, the execution of the systems and the overall flow of the story make up for it significantly.
    Character
While the story only has a few characters, they each appear as separate people. The individual desires and determinations of said characters is shown off appropriately in the different scenarios of the story and that is a very relevant positive for me.
    Overall
This story created and scratched and itch I didn't realize I had. My overall rating would be higher if there were deeper passes to work on the structure. The execution of the system and the plot of the story give it a large potential in my eyes and I am definetely looking forward to more from future arcs.

This is one of those stories that peaks early. The crash, initial rush to survive, then the reveal about the nature of the island is great. The story has introduced a character that is really sapping my enjoyment for the series. The obnoxious fat man is a nightmare for structure and pacing. He is abrasive to the point of distraction, and has already shown a penchant for betrayal. There is still plenty of time to right the ship, but since his introduction, each chapter has been less and less fun.
I hope the series returns to its original, frenetic survival pace.
