Description

A wise man once said all roads lead to Rome. He didn’t know how right he was. Ripped away from the battlefield, Tiberius and his six thousand Roman Legionnaires unexpectedly find themselves stranded in a foreign land of magic and witchcraft. With no way home, their path forward is obvious: conquer everything in sight. Much to the chagrin of Marcus—the poor, unsuspecting bard who summoned them. But taking over the world is not so easy. In order to stake their claim, the Legion will need to learn how to navigate the strange magics and abilities this new world has granted them. Abilities which, upon closer inspection, may prove the seed for a legend in the making… The dawn of a new empire looms on the horizon. Rome will rise anew as they seize cities, battle armies, and expand their territory across this strange and fantastical world. All the while, Marcus will need to figure out how to mitigate the force of nature he's unleashed upon his woefully unprepared world. That, or simply enjoy the front row seat to an epic in the making. Someone will need to tell the story, and who better aside from him? The die has been cast. The aqueducts are being built. And Rome will once more see glory.

Honestly everything I was expecting was subverted and made significantly better. The author has done a fantastic job on this one.Characters have different attitudes, perspectives, backgrounds. They all feel like real people and add their own spins to this story. The world building is slow, but honestly that’s perfect. It’s like a fog of war that gets lifted as the Romans expand.Grammar is messed up a bit here and there. Simple mistypes is all. It’s not very often, and will probably get edited out if it gets published. Overall it’s fine.Dialogue between characters is fantastic. I really do just want to sit back and watch them talk to each other. It’s very entertaining.Give it a try. You won’t regret it. Join the Legion!

Normally I would wait a bit to write a review but I felt this deserved one.The story is well written with good theming and story. It is clear some amount of research went into the Roman armies enough that I don't see any major flaws with the legion, though I am no expert. I love the concept and so far the story seems to stay true to it.The characters are great with varying motiviations, and they have a good amount of development for both how few chapters there currently are and there being so many legionaires.Combat was interesting, with no apparent overpowered class features, beyond skill from their many fights and training. We haven't seen the armies skill selection but we have seen some that have makes sense for the legionaires. Their class only leveling all of them together is also a cool idea not often seen in these.

So far a very interesting concept done rather well. The pacing is fluid without rushing, and the story is fleshing out superbly. The writing is also excellent and I find myself unable to stop reading. A very gripping, yet easy to ease into story that leaves the reader wanting more. I would love to see this as a TV series! (Just in case Amazon and/or Netflix is paying attention...)

Disclaimer. This is not a review swap. I don't do review swaps. If zaifir has reviewed any of my stuff, it's on them.I am psyched. The Isekai genre has been flooded with all sorts of gimmicks. A slime. A vending machine. A catgirl scratching post. Hot springs. It's not about getting sent to another world as ____ (insert weird stuff here). This time, It's a Roman Legion. It's all about the execution. It has always been.zaifir, from Void Roomba God fame, strikes again with a 10.0/10.0 execution to make Nadia Komaneshi blush. The immersion is superb. You feel the tension and the badassery of the Roman soldiers from the first paragraph. You see how baffled the natives are. This is everything Gate wasn't, and Gate was a fucking good story.Style: 5 stars. You can feel the care and love in each interaction, each paragraph.Story: 6 stars. The interface was broken. The story could be your generic isekai but it is all in the execution. I was hooked from the first chapter.Grammar: I honestly dislike this category. There's nothing wrong with the grammar. Any text editor will take care of grammar for the author. Yes, there's nothing to complain about zaifir domain over the English language.Character: 10 stars. Tiberius is as badass as you would expect a badass Roman emperor to be.Finally, for the "OG Emperor" in the title, if you noticed a 40k reference, it was in reverse. The 40k Emperor is the knockoff. Caesar is the OG Emperor. Dude was so badass he was copied everywhere, from Russia to WWII Germany to the grimdark future of mankind. So, get to reading.

Tell me honestly fellas, how often do you think of the Roman Empire?Overall: A masterful start from the author who brought us an adorable story about a roomba's ascension to godhood. Granted I enjoyed their previous work immensely. Enough to join the Patreon for a short time, when the first chapter of this story was dropped about a year ago it hooked me. I knew it had potential.Story: What would happen if a Roman legion was dropped into a magical system based world? Why they'd see barbarism when it was present and realize quickly that this place could use some Roman civility! Only a few chapters are out and a few more on the Patreon. The pacing could be better, the author's previous work was a slow story with a very gradual build up. I can see that happening with the character development here.Style: There are by my inexpert count two other Roman Isekai stories. I've read them both. One only the commander is isekai'd and the other there was only maybe 30 men? This is a full legion of 3000 men. There are so many possibilities this story could go I'm at the edge of my seat waiting.Grammar: This is very evidently an experienced author who has an editor and a co-author. The occasional find is pointed out on Patreon but they are quickly addressed before release here.Character: The story starts with a classic bard - fleeing the guards sent by his most recent lover's father. He uses a magic he does not understand to create a diversion. Not understanding the wordRomanbutlegionsure means a lot of soldiers - maybe it's a golem army? From there we learn more about the leaders of the legion summoned and we get to know a few of the men. The bard and the reader get to learn that these legionaries have depth and families they'll likely never return to.

This is a work of beauty and I can’t wait for more. I’m torn between reading chapters as soon as they come out and holding off to stockpile them. Incredible premise and great writing as well. For the glory of Rome! SPQR!(Mild spoiler)Super excited to see them hit lvl 2

This story nails the feeling of a map-painting strategy game brought to life. Instead of rushing into magic and fantasy, it lets Rome’s discipline, logistics, and raw ingenuity shine first — and that’s what makes the fantasy elements hit even harder when they come. Watching a full legion carve out its place in a strange new world, one calculated step at a time, is incredibly satisfying. If you love tactical progression with a strong foundation in realism, this one’s for you.

The best story I have had the pleasure of reading on royal road, the use of the elves has been a pleasant surprise which I hope continues as more races are introduced with time. The story has a running internal logic which has been constant and interesting characters which have me wanting to read more.

Enjoyable read with an interesting take on the isekai genre. It’s still early, but the characters have potential. A major flaw I’ve seen in other stories that have a large cast of characters is that no individual has the amount of depth or charisma to make you actually care about them or worry for their sake. I hope that doesn’t happen here and the author is showing signs that he will write a good amount of personality for the Roman characters.Spoiler warningMy only worry for the story is that the shared level mechanic will be a huge hindrance to the believability of the story. Since it will take either a lot of time or some kind of major event to even get the Roman’s a single level, I foresee every fight to be the level 1-5 Romans fighting level 10-30 enemies and defeating them through skill, determination, and grit as if the natives to the world don’t have any of that of their own. I’m worried that plot armor will be the main group skill that the Romans rely on to beat their enemies and the much larger armies they will face. That is only a potential worry and we will see how it actually plays out (though I’m already getting a sense of that from the spider fight).
