Through their combined efforts, the world of Rathe has been able to enjoy an era of peace for nearly a decade since the end of The Drazah War. But when their identities and the secrets behind their power is revealed, all of their admiration turns to terror, and they're deplored as the worst Fiends alive. Wanting nothing more than to save the world they feel responsible for, the pair must find new ways to help those who fear them, and the simplest way might just be to conquer all of society—one job at a time. These Fiends are For Hire.

What to expect:
-A lot of Slice-of-Life. This series could be also be known as 'The Daily Lives of Anti-Heroes.' There is still a lot of Action, Comedy, World-Building, and Conflict, but Slice-of-Life is the main focus.
-A slow burn main plot. Not every chapter may seem like it's building towards the ultimate end, and some are just for fun. But virtually every chapter has new lore, world-building, character development, and/or subtle clues hinting at the mysteries of the series.
-Overpowered and Eccentric Characters with a lot of unique abilities. As the series progresses, OP vs OP fights and conflict become more common.
-Some very wholesome and some very dark moments. They are Anti-Heroes after all, so you get the good and the bad.

- XilanXaliaXRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great Writing! I love it. Each chapter make me laugh in some way or another. All the characters are great each in the own ways. Keep up the awesome work! I likely won't stop reading until I'm all caught up at which point I'll likely be sad at least until I can read the next chapters after they post. =)
- ArkeanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0From the start, the story is very well detailed, and has amazingly well done world building, knowing the history from the start really helps set the mood. While the size of the chapters may seem overwhelming at first, the amount of story telling and detail helps to digest the chapter and the story hooks you quiet easily. The story writing helps set the tone of a post-apocalyptic world, making you feel very immersed very quickly.
- Coldfang89Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The author has an absolute talent!
The worldbuilding is top of the line and some of the best I've ever read. The setting is well thought out, and doesn't feel like it's been thrown together at all, but rather thoroughly planned out. As a reader, you're given the history of each area, the way folks live in those areas in their day to day lives, and everything in between.
I think the author captures the slice of life genre very well with their long and detailed descriptions of everything about the world, and everything within in. Even clothing is ridiciously detailed, which for my personal tastes for the genre, is a good thing.
The characters themselves are of the very likable anti-hero archetype, which I found highly enjoyable. The chemistry between them comes across as very authentic and high value. In addition, they are very complex personalities and motivations.
The grammer, spelling, and story telling are at a level rarely seen on Royal Road and left be feeling impressed, which should be saying something because those are my weakest areas myself!
I will say, that due to the level of detail involved in the story, it may not be for everyone. But for folks who enjoy a heavy read that takes elements from both slice of life and adventure, this could be the real diamond in the rough that you've been looking for! - DWinchesterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Update: As I continue to read the author's writing improves and the characters become more interesting as they start to form a web of relationships with the other characters in the story. Increasing my rating from 4 to 5 stars!
This story is anything but conventional. After a brief prologue to get you up to speed on the history of the world, the first chapter jumps right into the action as we are introduced to the Slayer. The second chapter does likewise with the Vixen. Both are interesting in their own right, but what I find even more interesting is the world the author is building. The first chapter is an almost pulp postapocalyptic world filled with ruins and radioactive monsters, and the second chapter takes place in one of the sleeker cities on the continent, which is large enough to have its own underworld and crime problems.
It's a very interesting contrast, and one I hope they explore more in future chapters. Though I haven’t read far enough to see if this becomes a team up, if it does it would look something like Green Arrow and Harlequin might to name a more mainstream reference.
The action scenes deserve a special call out. I think the action is particularly well done. It is both easy to imagine and imaginative, which is something that some of the authors I read can struggle with.
I think the author still has some work to do on dialog and on not being bogged down into overly detailed descriptions at times, but overall, I really enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more. - RahtaeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all the current chapters and I'm looking forward to more! Drim’s writing style is a mix of both gritty and descriptive, capturing the ambiance of a world with many different nuances. While also having great moments of levity, humor and introspection. The Action is well written, intense and well-paced, making it easy for me to visualize. The story is filled with many interesting characters . While mainly focusing on the main cast. It does have a whole slew of supporting ones. This is something i personally find engaging, because it just fills the story with even more info and world building.
If you want a story about people with powers finding out their purpose and place in the world I do recommend this one. - RazgriztrippRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A fun slice of life with enough action to keep you entertained otherwise. 13/10 It should be made into a TV show. The main characters are engaging and lovable. The plot is fun and fast paced. There is enough back story to make you fully invested. Overall a fun and worthwhile story.
- Ace-omiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Hello Hello. After immersing myself in this work for an extended period, I've finally mustered the courage to share my personal thoughts on this high-octane masterpiece :)
Style: The writing style of "Fiends for Hire" is quite descriptive, often delving into the emotional and mental state of the characters. The author does a great job of bringing the story to life with vivid descriptions and well-crafted scenes. The action sequences are particularly noteworthy, as they are fast-paced and engaging, keeping the reader invested in the story. One aspect to consider is the length of chapters, as they can be quite lengthy, but the writing is engaging enough that it doesn't feel like a chore to complete one in a single sitting.
Story: At this point, the story is still far from finishing, but what has been read so far promises an exciting and thought-provoking read. The plot has already established questions that leave the reader curious about what will happen next, which is a hallmark of a good story. The plot also does a good job of building tension and keeping the reader guessing about the outcome of each mission.
Grammar: The grammar is top-notch, with no obvious errors or typos that detract from the reading experience. The writing is polished and flows smoothly, allowing the reader to fully immerse themselves in the story. It's worth mentioning that the author is open to feedback and is quick to correct any mistakes that are pointed out.
Characters: The characters are well-developed and multi-dimensional, with motivations that are well-defined and believable. The relationships between characters add depth to the story, making the reader feel invested in their journeys. The author does a fantastic job of making even the secondary characters feel alive and memorable, which is a rare talent in the world of fiction writing.
Overall, Fiends for Hire is a thrilling and action-packed story with well-developed characters, an engaging writing style, and a gripping plot. It is a - HanneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Fiends for Hire sets in a world shaped and devastated by wars. Not just conventional war, but low yield nuclear warfare that devastated the world order. Then the mysterious Cosmic Boon phenomenon happened. As the reader can tell, this story is heavy in world building.
The story followed a group of not-human directly related to the Cosmic Boon, who at first seemed complacent in living their life in the new human society. However, they carried a secret, and that would ultimately usher the world into a new era.
To summarize, Fiends for Hire has deep lore, but because of the amount of details, falls into a heavy reading category.
It has excellent grammar, complex characters with their own backgrounds and motivations. However, due to the world-building, their personality, while interesting and cool, has yet to make a real impact.
The style. This is the where the story could see big improvement. With better formats, maybe 15-25% reduction, smaller chunks to bite, variable lengths, and more usage of dialogue, Fiends for Hire may truly live up to its full potential.
Overall, Fiends for Hire is a good read with ambitious settings that explored a society with monster and superior human in their midst. Loaded with enough actions and strong characters, it's a solid but also fun to read. - JR CastleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is an incredibly ambitious story with personable, distinct characters and a well-realized setting. The worldbuilding is definitely there—we get history, we get how that history has created differences between different locales, how folks living in those locales live out their day-to-day lives, etc. The primary characters—a brother and sister duo—are about as different from each other as you could get, creating a nice dynamic of contrast and support that can safely act as the story's heart. Action scenes are active, full of clever little tricks and a fun tone that doesn't detract from more dramatic moments.
Still, as much as the story, world, and characters drew me in, I found some sections kind of a slog. There's a heavy emphasis on descriptive exposition, which isn't necessarily a bad thing—sometimes, when it comes to describing the world or a scene, I think it's to the story's benefit—but when we're spending several paragraphs on the minutae of a character's outfit I do think it goes a bit too far and sorta kills the pace, even if that outfit is admittedly cool. This isn't a dealbreaker at all—again, it helps as much as it hurts the story for me—but I do think it's worth pointing out because it seems characteristic of the author's style and could be a reccuring issue for readers who are turned off by that kind of thing.
Overall, there's a lot to like here, and it's clear that the author is passionate about the story, so much so that I actually thought the literal name-drop of the title by one of the characters came off more endearing than tacky. Reading it, you can feel the energy in the prose, and while I personally found some moments a little overdone, I can't complain too much about writing that wants to enthusiastically communicate its images and feelings. - PizzaPizzaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0For a minimum-spoiler summary, the story is set in a pretty unique cape setting after a decade of peace. The Slayer and Vixen are two heroes of the that happened a decade before in your typical superhero setting. Thankfully, it's been quiet. Everyone's earned their happy ending.
Psyche!
Both characters have their reps dragged through the mud early on, and the story revolves around them picking up the pieces from that.
Who this is for: People who love true anti-heroes and capepunk. People who can appreciate an author that celebrates and plays with tropes common to the genre.
Who this isn't for: People on the lookout for a classic superhero story.
