- drandreasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A great start to a cultivation epic. Interesting to see cultivation in a more modern setting. There isn't enough yet to give a full review as the Mc has only started his journey. Despite this ill give it a review and 5 stars to help it grow. Looking forward to more!
- gremlin8675309Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I enjoy the reasonable growth the story presents, with the slow beginning an expectation of the main character’s beginning status. No “fortunate encounters” to skip reasonable progress keep this from the cookie cutter format one often sees in cultivation novels. Actual “realness” to the side-characters are also a welcome addition to the story that help with reader engagement and support instead of distract from the main character’s progress. I hope the author can continue building this world as I eagerly look forward to what comes next.
- marrethielRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It is really interesting to read a story like this and not find the MC or side characters annoying. Mostly people are just people with a few understandable cultural biases. The slice of life tag does not seem to mean filler for the sake of it. The character has goals and is moving towards them. While one person commented that the side characters seem a little shallow I disagree. Previous to this chapter most of the people he has met were in passing but they still felt real and normal to me. The one repeat npc has had some character development that felt natural.
Good writing style, good characters, interesting world building. An actual civilised Xania world. - StrayKatRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really good worldbuilding. Imagine if your average xianxia were the Middle Ages, then this book would be how the world might be like in modern times. Not modern technologically, as there have been hints of really high tech, but modern culturally. Face, honor and combat abilities are still important to these people, but a mortal won't need to fear getting burst like a flesh balloon for offending cultivators.
While reading this book, it becomes obvious that the author has given a lot of thought in how a world like this might work like. There are a lot of minor details, like how a government official would be treated really well as they double as emergency military personnel, and how buildings of organizations need to be built apart to not deplete the ambient qi, that work together to flesh out the world and make it feel real.
Personally, my favorite part of this book so far is seeing our insecure government official intern handler just went: "screw it", fought 3 local sect pupils cause his agency got insulted, WINNING the fight, then procced to become the town celebrity of the day?! Absolutely hilarious!! 10/10 Would recommend - FitzJamesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A modern world where technology has been replaced with qi-tech is an interesting take on the cultivation genre. I like the MC his only goal is to advance and keep advancing to stave off death and his soul being destroyed. The few side characters that have been fleshed out are good and display multiple motivations. Though could use some more antagonists as the story proceeds. Book 1 is complete, but short.
- sedwolfRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A cultivation story refreshingly free of face slapping, wanton cruelty, and inexplicable idiocy.
Strong Points:
Consistent and believable characters, infrequent and short info dumps that don't distract from the story, infrequent and short POV changes that give you insight into side characters without breaking flow.
A very good start to a slower (but not too slow) cultivation story.
More words, more words, etc. - ausl0serRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5A fun story with a great set of twists, well done but very slow to update.
Nothing bad to say, the writing is solid, good characters, neat worldbuilding, good grammar and sentence structure, prose flows well. Solid.
Not much else to say without spoilers, which i despise. Read the description the author gave you. - SilijaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Really like this one, it has many unique takes on the established tropes and norms with relatable well written and likeable characters, the only downside in my opinion is that the story moves forward very slowly, which might not be a bad thing for some people but i wish it was faster.
- The way it used to beRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Great to see a logical world built and executed. Rational characters in an advanced world. Interesting and hope that more people enjoy the slow build. It is not my typical LITRPG read but is interesting. No martial duels or extensive violence. Just a goal and the path to reach it. So far just 16 chapters in and I am liking it. Good for a low hype review. Read with confidence! I also do not see why the word count needs to be a particular length. In fact would not less be more?
- Cyber30Royal Road★★★ 2.5I'll start with some positives I really liked the writing style, I could see the world that was described to me. And the idea is interesting cultivation in a modern-ish world. The characters seemed a little lacking in depth but are distinguishable. But the big problem I had with the story is that I just found it boring, which is probably the biggest sin a book can have for a reader. Every chapter is just an aspect of living in a modernized world. Getting a job, finding transport, bureaucracy, and the likes. Everyone is peaceful and the stakes are very low in the present and not really focused on. The story is nothing like what I expected going on and honestly I'd be surprised if anyone would disagree that this isn't a martial cultivation story but a slice of life with cultivation.
