- one8billionthofthepopulationRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The other reviews fill me with rage anything below 3.5 stars is just people who have no joy this story has captivated me and I have read all 112 chapters in 3 days a wonderful story plus the review about ai is bs if it were written by ai the continuity would be nonexistant yet every chapter continues almost exactly whereth previous one left off and the premise and balancing of the story is wonderful an overpowered mc that isn't completely steamrolling everthing in there path It's faur unique and filled with fun to read content.
- ShadowTratonRoyal Road★★★ 3.0You can see the effort, but the result is nevertheless lacking. We quickly depart from an interesting premise and arrive at the not so great execution.
The story jumps right into it to a protagonist who's easily coming to terms with his new life in an unknown, kill or be killed world. Part of it is its charm, no doubt, but when James repeatedly shrugs off - what should be - existential crisis after existential crisis like it's nothing, I can't help but find it silly if he suddenly loses it over the simplest of things. Like the system refusing to give information on a topic or the price of something being higher than expected.
Beyond that, his power system is based on taking the body parts of others. Which, once again, sounds great, but only until he monkey-brain's it.
Numbers go up? Bought!
James is aware that he can't blindly trust the system, but his actions don't reflect that. Sure, he questions the occasional thing, but when he significantly changes his body (meaning entire limbs), yet doesn't even consider something as fundamental as balance that would affect basically anything he does, especially fighting, I really find my suspension of disbelief challenged.
As for worldbuilding and plot, they're both classic tropes we've seen a hundred times over that haven't deviated enough so far to be worth mentioning.
Lastly, the grammar. I know, second or third language and all, but no way around it, the grammar is bad. It's riddled with mistakes and the phrasing is more or less bland on top of that. Direct speech is jarring in its own way because James often feels like a robot more than an actual human being because of it - at least at heart.
Overall, the author needs an editor and the story will probably improve from here on out if for no other reason than the plot developing in a, hopefully, unique direction. Still, I can't really recommend it as is, but the scarcity of cold-blooded protagonists might make it worth keeping an eye out for. - king54the1stRoyal Road★★★ 3.0This novel really hooks you with the premise of the mc's unique skills witch are later just treated as extra stats and a way to focus on magic and martial skills, the figh choreography is definetly one of the best ive read, but that is 40% due to the storys unique system/ skill developments, on the downside the author sometimes struggles to choose between first, third and a narator pov that leaves it feeling jarring during those albiet rare occasions, the biggest problem i have with this novel is the lack on intellegence or more than a 2D personality any character seems to have, the decision making is constantly leaves you asking how they decided that was the best desision and the characters dont ever really feel worth investing feelings into.
TLDR: great fights, horrible character decisions - YourGodPenneRoyal Road★ 1.0While the premise of slowly loosing ones humanity as you graft monster parts to your body in order to survive is really cool, the story is very poorly written.
Getting through just the first chapter is an absolute chore. Cringy internal dialogue by the main character. Repeating the same things over and over again. The amount of times the MC talks about gore being his dress code is ridiculous and tiresome.
On top of that, the MC is immediately very boring. Constantly spouting the same 3 bs lines and showing no need to adapt to the situation makes me question if he was even meant to be somewhat relatable to normal people. MC is also written like some 8th grade edgelord's self insert.
I cannot bring myself to continue reading this story. Maybe if it the author improves and rewrites the early chapters to make sense, but at this point the story is a cringefest. - TajarimRoyal Road★ 0.5This story is easily summed up by this sentence taken from one of the early (already edited, so this is what remains after optimisation) chapters
“A smoke? System, was another survivor made a camp there?”
Weird sentence structure and grammar , right? It's not the authors first story, so no real excuse available. Story itself is bland and reads like an instruction manual. He did this, then that, then he defeated that guy and ate this thing. No depth.
