- gerRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Fantasy stories come and go and many have much in common. It's always nice to come across a story that puts forward some interesting concepts, things I haven't seen before. I found myself pleasantly surprised to find such ideas in Eons Requiem, and am happy to have stopped to discover them. I'll be continuing the journey in the chapters to come, and I recommend you do the same.
Overall: If you're into magic systems, worldbuilding, lore, powerful characters with mysterious backgrounds, epic fight scenes, encounters with monsters, and interactions with gods, then Eons Requiem is for you. I was charmed by the original magic system, as well as by the skills and abilities used by the MC.
Style: Danchive presents the story in main segments along with shorter sequences that are more mysterious. These shorter parts help to maintain a feeling of depth and intrigue while slowly revealing important aspects of the world, story, and characters. The style he uses to do this is one I haven't quite seen before, and so I'm constantly motivated to turn to the next chapter to find out more.
Story: There are elements of the story I haven't yet understood since there is a wealth of information to integrate. This also means that the next chapters will only become better as I delve into this new world. I'm curious about the talent types and magic styles and can't wait to see how they'll be presented along with new characters.
Grammar: Much of Danchive's writing is poetic and well-imaged. I particularly liked the combat scene, as well as a few interactions between the characters. There were, however, some sentences that I had to re-read and think about to truly grasp the direction they were leading. I believe that some later editing will amend this and make Eons Requiem full of beautiful prose.
Character: So far, the characters remain relatively mysterious. We know little about them, with the most exposed being the MC. We are aware that he has a complex past full of allies and enemies, whi - thalia.Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5i should preface this review by saying i don't usually read fantasy, as i often struggle to immerse myself in the narrative, but here i can say that reading eons requiem was a great experience.
style
to start with, the prose is wonderful. the author does a fantastic job with weaving their words to illustrate the rich and vibrant world to the reader. however, on the other hand, sometimes (but not often) this was taken to the extreme, bordering on the edge of purple prose.
while what is considered purple prose is debatable among many, in my experience with reading what i have so far, some descriptions would be verbose and yet remain ambiguous, leading to struggles in clearly visualising the scene and/or settings. this is why i couldn’t give it the full 5 stars and i hope as the story progresses the narration will develop to help guide the reader’s imagination and visualisation a little more. that being said, some readers may enjoy this narrative style, as i did for the chapters i had read so far.
this is a minor nitpick, but it may be worth mentioning. there are some moments where i was pulled out of the story. for example, the story is told from a 3rd person perspective and blurs the line between 3rd person limited and 3rd person omniscient, which can be disorienting at first, but i eventually got used to it. and while it didn’t necessarily hinder my enjoyment, it may for others, so readers should be mindful of this before continuing.
another instance where the immersion would break would be some word choices. without giving away any spoilers, an example i could think of is when the main character, reginn, describes sleeping outside. the narration says “the entire world was his house and sleeping outside would be no different than sleeping in the living room.” and while this is a fine sentence on its own, when read in context, readers like myself may question how does this man know what a living room is — why would he not call it something else to show his background - DarkodiaRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0"Eons Requiem" is an epic fantasy tale that immerses the reader in a world of conflict, magic, and profound emotional depth. The narrative opens with a vividly depicted battlefield scene, setting the tone for a story rich in imagery and symbolism. Central to the plot is the struggle between two powerful beings, embodying themes of conflict, the nature of power, and the consequences of war.
The story's protagonist, Reginn, is portrayed as a complex and deeply conflicted character, torn between his divine heritage and the brutal realities of his existence. His journey is marked by moments of intense battle, introspection, and a quest for redemption, all set against the backdrop of a world caught in the throes of change.
The author's skillful use of language and descriptive imagery brings this fantastical world to life, engaging the reader's senses and emotions. The narrative is paced to balance action with character development, ensuring that the story remains compelling and thought-provoking throughout.
Overall, "Eons Requiem" is a captivating read for fans of high fantasy, offering a richly woven tapestry of themes that explore the human condition, the nature of conflict, and the quest for meaning in a chaotic world. The story's conclusion leaves a lasting impression, inviting reflection on the broader implications of the characters' journeys and choices.
