Description
In a world where magic has brought about the end of all wars, an aspiring enchanter purchases his first shop. His dream of becoming a world famous enchanter begins here...
Cal always wanted his own enchanter’s shop. When the opportunity to buy a shop comes up, it takes everything he’s got - and more - to make it happen. Starting from scratch with nothing but his talent, his friends, and his ambition to succeed, Cal must turn the dilapidated Northwood Enchantery from a cold, cluttered, critter-infested mess into a successful, thriving business. And he needs to do it before the midwinter festival in three weeks’ time.
But there’s more to Cal than meets the eye. He’s not just another enchanter. In a world where magic is commonplace, the powerful Pedantus Guild regulate a magic system that’s become ingrained over decades, and most mages are stuck in their ways, perfectly happy to keep to the known paths of magic.
Cal has a different idea. If he’s to make his little shop a success, he’ll have to use every technique he can come up with to make and sell the very best enchantments that Jutlyn City has ever seen. And to do that, he’s going to have to break a few rules…

- thatstakn2Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Love the slice of life, cozy vibes, and with an interesting MC. Thoroughly enjoying the journey thus far.
Don’t let the MC focus too much on denigrating his abilities coz that gets old Fast.
The plot and world building is also very interesting and can’t wait to learn more. It would be nice if a few maps were available to show the general locale of where he is, and what lies beyond . - Lady LoinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is absolutely a cozy fantasy. There's point where it looks like things are about to get dramatic and suddenly they aren't because of people acting like they have a brain and some sense of community. I really really appreciate the lowish stakes and realistic problems the characters have that they solve in ways that make sense to the world
- PKMindWorksRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story has a good premise and the author stays true to it.
The primary supporting characters could be developed more, but the author has already started taking steps to do so.
As this is their first book you can watch as they grow as an author as the world they are creating unfolds. - summerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have a strong tendency to read things all the way through before commenting. I have read up to the latest posting and wanted to put out a "Hey There" for Enchanter's Emporium.
This is a wonderful, cozy, sort of story. It combines moderate difficulties and conflicts with lots of world building, exploration, learning and a magical crafting system I mostly have a handle on.
It has a lot of different species, most of whom get along, which is fun. The MC is a nice guy, working his way through improving circumstances to gain a solid standing magically and within his community.
There are a few bad guys, nothing's perfect, but the main focus of the story stays with exploring and succeeding, making new friends and learning more about the magic they employ.
I find it a delight and it burbles along nicely in my mind during the day, so I look forward to each new chapter.
Thanks, genialgibbon, for sharing your story and talent with us!!
Highly recommended! - HaveFunRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Light hearted with low stakes and conflicts that remained within my comfort levels — just what I expected from a comfort read.
The characters were the strongest point of this book so far. Most of them were nice people, competent, reasonable, with a tendency to help those in need. I wouldn't mind them all gathering for a picnic or two and just spending time with each other, talking about magic, gossiping, etc.
Cal (main character) is just a level 1 certified enchanter, but there's lot more to him than what meets the eye. With help from his friend and well meaning neighbours, we get to see him make useful and impressive enchanted items.
I especially enjoyed all the surprising items that were salvaged from the old shop that Cal had bought in an auction. Some of them had a bit of mystery, and that certainly helped with keeping the story engaging to read.
The magic system was interesting, but it takes a while for us to get details. The stats were pretty light and don't get in the way.
There were a few inconsistencies that I hope the author would fix — I found the reader comments especially useful in this regard. - S-Class ReaderRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Good read, the word cozy is a very acurate description for the story so far. Well written, interesting plot line and characters, and a nice world setup. The story is developing nicely, and im really looking forward to where it will go!
Overall good read, Kudos to the author and looking forward to new chapters! - storybookknightRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Overall, I quite like the worldbuilding going on in this story. A Fantasy metropolis with undead and other strange races integrated into the citizenry is just unusual enough to be fresh and innovative without being over the top. I also like the magic system, and the integration of that system with bureaucratic rules and challenges - very important for the health of a slice-of-life story. I give it excellent marks, stylistically speaking.
The actual meat and bones of the story, however, is a business-focused slice of life, which is executed... well enough, but not exceptionally. I sometimes found myself looking for a bit more detail out of chapters; the author seems to skip over periods of 'boring' time, which is something that often makes sense but in a slice-of-life I sometimes find to miss the point. Sometimes seeing how characters react to those slow moments and boring stretches can be good for character development. Also, while it's clear the author is going for cozy vibes with the story, the fact that nearly all of the introduced NPCs so far have been almost aggressively nice is starting to feel unrealistic. The shop could use a few Karen customers and other day-to-day hassles to make things feel less saccharine.
Grammar is great as far as I've noticed, no issues there.
Outside of the aforementioned niceness issues, I do like the characters so far, although it's early days. A bit more could be done to distinguish characters from one another - I don't see a lot of variation in dialogue between the MC, his friend, and his assistant, for instance, and the supporting characters who aren't strange undead could use some more character quirks to set them apart from one another. (Many characters have interesting backgrounds, but in a character focused slice of life an ordinary blacksmith who is constantly morose and lugubrious can be more interesting to read about than a magical blacksmith with a tepid personality, and those sorts of personality traits are the sort of - sundrallRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0It's a good cozy story like the name suggests. A good start so far.
Without going into spoilers there are a couple of minor plot points that seem to just stall, but could definitely be spun out into arcs or at least a major points easily at a later date. - FuzzyBeriahRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This is a pretty pleasant story so far, mostly low-stakes, but with some fun characters and a small amount of intrigue. The protag is clever and maybe a bit too inexplicably special (we never really get an explanation for why he can be a better enchantment crafter than everyone else). There are hints of future conflict but very little on-screen so far. Overall I’ve found it fun enough to read thirty chapters of, so the author is doing something right. I look forward to seeing where the story goes from here.
- MyDoRySRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I love this story so far. It is slow-paced, so if you are looking for adventure and high stakes/conflict, this is not for you. However, this is what I was looking for: a feel-good, easy-paced story. The world-building was great, and I could easily imagine being there. There is no intense conflict, which I like. I have enough stress in my life, I just want to escape and have a good time, and this story has provided that so far. Hopefully, the author loads new chapters, and I was hoping Amazon picked it up, but I haven't been able to find anything on that end. On the negative side, I believe that the author was aiming for too much without a clear "ending" because there are lots of side "quests" and it gets a bit confusing as to where the story is heading.
