Description
"Open a forge, melt the stolen goods, make a blade, then sell it back to them. The rich assholes won't even know they're buying back their own stuff."
-Prisoner #824, Elven Sector
Growing up, all Erevan wanted to do was become a blacksmith and work in his father’s smithy, the Enchanted Forge. But sometimes fate has a different plan.
After a tragic mistake, Erevan finds himself transported to the work camp in Altheria. To the nobility, it’s an island-bound rehabilitation complex run by a powerful warden and staffed with short-tempered guards. To the inmates, ‘Alty’ is really a massive, city-sized prison.
Thrown in with criminal humans, dwarves, and other races, Erevan must learn to navigate the island’s complex social system, as well as survive the sanctioned duels- the warden’s method of managing the convict’s anger and aggression.
In Altheria, Erevan learns new smithing skills and forges unexpected alliances. He also gains the attention of the shadowy Thieves Guild, who may have a plan for him both inside and outside of the prison’s walls.
When disaster strikes and all that the young elf has gained is in danger of being lost, will he rise to the challenge and embrace his new destiny?

- Tricky786Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Nice! The story so far (till chapter 3) is very good, the story goes in a flow and its very detailed. Author's style of writing the story is good, the way he used the senses of the mc and the dramatic tension, it's top notch. Aside from the elf part, it's a generic revenge type story with a pinch of originality.
The grammar was good except for some spelling mistakes like in the first chapter at paragraph 16 :
"My heart pounded in my chest, and I sword the noise of it going thud thud thud would be loud enough for the guards to hear."
I think that should be heard. there are more but, iam too lazy to pick them out. Now, the characters, I particularly don't like the mc's timid character right now (as there are only 3 chaps) but I think he will go through some character development and become a sigma🗿 later on. The side characters are well written and have their own stories.
To sum it up, the story so far is top notch, the grammar is good, the style is unique, the characters are generic but well written with a pinch of uniqueness. I would like the author to keep going as this story has potential.
Edit: OK, this is good! You fixed the mistakes present before! The unique take on the concept of LitRpg is good. There are some mistakes like in the Seventh chapter, the last line of the first section.
Prison life was going to take some getting used to.
I think you forgot to write time. But other than that, it has potential. The side characters are well written and the details in this are awesome. Keep going bro and I think this will be a hit if done right! - jerpatchRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The hints so far at the LitRPG system that will be in play, make me wish more of the story was out already. I want to see if Erevan can really handle himself in prison and if he tries to escape or stays for the season. The lead-up to this was well done and I want to see what else is in store. I didn't think I'd be this invested in a prison story but here I am, waiting for the next drop.
I hope the Elf Lord has what's coming to him. Jonik is walking a fine line right now and I hope this doesn't turn out poorly for him. - CrazyMage555Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is really good so far. It's got the makings of a cool LitRPG but also a great character piece. It's a poverty turned rogue seemingly so far. I've never read a prison story before, the author makes it feel like you're there. The details are great. I devoured what he has out so far. Looking forward to reading more!
Edit - I am up through chapter 38 I think and just love this story. The way he makes a mundane prison schedule so real feeling and also exciting. The way the duels work. The way the prison is a constant state of calm but also chaos. I have loved everything about this story so far.
also seriously where else you gonna find a LitRPG set in a prison haha this is so one of a kind. Excited to see where it goes and how much longer he has to serve in prison. Then what he does after. Time will tell :) - ActionHero415Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Off to a great start so far. This book has really sucked me in so far, making me link to this character. Also the cover is super cool. He says LitRPG coming but nothing yet other than the mention of gold for classes and magic, which is an interesting spin on the genre.
Style - I've read this authors other fiction so I'm used to his book styles. It's good, the chapters read smoothly and easily, and you find yourself smashing the next chapter button.
Story - color me intrigued. I'm rating this early because I know that helps him get the story out there in the RR algo. Sounds like the story will be cool and different for the genre starting in the prisons.
Grammar - so far so good, few things but I know this is a first draft.
Character - likable and elven so a different spin than a human story. He is poor and wants gold, so assuming he will be grinding for money instead of grinding for monsters.
TLDR - so far a good start. One of the better few chapters I've seen. I really like what this author writes. Looking forward to seeing what's next!
Updated through chapter 8! - Justin MarksRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I liked this quite a bit. Seems fairly light on the LitRPG part so far, but feels like that is building. It's well written and edited with a good storyline going. I was a little hesitant in the first few chapters as I was not seeing the LitRPG so much but I am glad I kept reading. A nice mix of story, world building and action makes it fun to read and the chapters flow well. They feel like part of a book with smooth transitions. Looking forward to what's coming next in the story.
- InfinityphoenixRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Style: Clean and easy to read, with no tricky sentences. It sometimes feels a bit too simple, but when one or two chapters went by, I worked out the mc is relatively young still, so it made sense. The writing of the alternative pov kept its more simple descriptions, which i felt didn't quite represent the age of the pov subject well, but it was a side detail.
Story: Being sent to a prison is a unique way to start earning skills and classes. The warden is definitely interesting, that's for sure. Only thing is this is supposed to be the most protected place in the continent, so it makes me feel like the upper level of strength isn't too high in this story, with the warden's level. I do feel that some foreshadowing is just a little bit too blatant, however I understand that the author intends for the character to go through a few events to be worthy of the 'anti-hero' tag.
Grammar: Perfect. Haven't found anything. Maybe sentences are too short sometimes.
Character: Again, the mc is being set up for a few events to make him worthy of the anti-hero tag. I'm glad the fact he can earn classes and skills in prison exists, because then it will make it more interesting while having to wait for the mc to develop his character. The Lord is a bit clique, and doesn't feel like he has much depth to him, but he wasn't seen for more than one or two chapters anyway, so it's a small thing in the long term.
Overall: If you're willing to sit through a period of character growth, then I'm sure this will be an enjoyable story for you. It seems to be a story about fighting against the social structure of the world, but it hasn't made some races better than others personality wise, which is good. I've yet to see how the 'enchanted forge' comes into play yet, but I hope to see how the mc takes his progress. - Conrad StokesRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Disclaimer: This review is for a review/comment swap with the author. I have read over 11,000 words.
And you should know something, a review swap minimum is 10k words, but I was enjoying this story so much I wanted to keep reading until I reached the authors present limit at 11k words.
This story feels really put together, not sloppy or hastily written. With the style, it was familiar in a really good way, like someone who has read a lot in this genre and learned/practiced it well.
The story is not some big, bad doomsday with the sky opening up and void monsters pouring out or something like that (as far as I know). It's very character driven by the MC from a first person point of view that lets us stew more in his emotions and root for struggles that are not cosmic in scale so much as they are relatable.
Grammar wise, again no complaints. I am usually easy going on this score area, but this story really did not have any issues compared to others I have read.
The characters are the only not perfect score, but still are not bad by any means. I think they in large part suffer from the whole story not being out yet and I trust they will be developed. The MC is not this "wow, such a unique and creative character", but feels more like a relatable dude, which may kind of pull you out of the fantasy of it in a weird way, but not too much.
Good story. Recommend.
