- Ajax_flamebornRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If ya haven't read Empress of the Blue Flower Mountain yet you're wrong and as such should feel bad, come back after you do that..... okay their gone. This book is great excellent grammar, enaging plot and characters and not too many cliches. The book starts off with a strong focus on romance, it also just so happens to be in a more wuxia style just like the last book. Then near the (current) end it dials down the romance a tad, (hint: It's still very prevelant) and starts to do a bit of world craft for the next book (which from the little hint we got on the discord looks awesome as well)
- Wo7fRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This epic slice of life cultivation novel just gets better with every chapter. The author has created an epic fantasy world where the characters are very different from your typical Xianxia/Wuxia novel. Combining western fantasy with our typical cultivation tropes makes for a unique story centered around a complex mountain range with an eons old history which is masterfully surveyed out into the world beyond. These elements combined to create a sense of slice of life that kept me wanting more, only to find that there’s more planned.
It’s not my usual read but after 5 chapters I was definitely interested,
Join our young heroine as she unknowingly steals the heart of a very powerful force of nature and becomes the centre of a growing world where anything is possible. - dazzlingradianceRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Emperor of Blue Flower Mountain is one of the best stories I have read. Every part of it is necessary in the progression of the plots and transition of the arcs. No fillers at all. The characters grow; they make mistakes, they hurt and get hurt, they suffer, but also learn and accept.
The love/romance in this story is also very well-written. It's not just about about love itself, but also the consequences that you have to face. It's also about family. The love of a parent to his/her child, the child to their parents, a child to his/her sibling, and many other kinds of love not catered in other stories. It's very diverse and yet so whole. And its VERY funny. You'd just find yourself laughing while reading, and then cry in the next chapter.
The author's writing style is amazing. It's just so natural that you would find yourself being inside the world she created in the story before you knew it. The progression of the story is flawless. And as I've said, the characters grow. They change as their life and situations change, as how a 'person' should. Yup. The characters here are so realistic, you'd feel like they're someone you personally know. And the grammar, I believe it's good. I mean, I help out on this part so I don't think I'm in the place to comment. But in comparison to other stories, I'm sure it's far better because of the author and the editors' efforts to make it better in this aspect.
I just love this story so much that I can't ascertain why and how. But I know that from the prequel to this one, it's something that I won't let go. - ClaudRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I couldn't believe it when I found a story with a good grammar, good romance, good action, and good story flow here. Each character has their own personality and of the side characters gradually lose their individual characteristics. MC is a witty, funny girl and the ML trips over his feet in his mission to win her heart. All in all a must read!
- NobleGuileRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love this story and its prequel. The characters draw you in and leave you wanting more. I've binged over 100 chapters and I'm genuinely sad that I'm up to date; the characters feel like good friends and I want to see them more
- PunIntendedRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I can't believe I'm disappointed to run out of chapters after 1284 pages! Not including the Empress prequel which is half creation myth and an absolute delight. Read that first.
Story: An epic xianxia slice-of-life romance. It has elements of the usual cultivation and martial arts, but they are peripheral to the true heart of it - a human girl and the spirit of a mountain slowly change the world and each other. It's a character-driven tale (though with a decent amount of action) with almost no reliance on feuds, divine meddling, magic swords and other wuxia tropes. Such a refreshing addition to the genre.
Style: The slow pace is appropriate for the story. Being split into volumes gives it a lot of structure, each arc having its own climax instead of dragging on like some serials do. With updates being slower at the moment, it might be preferable to wait for a volume to finish then read the whole thing at once.
Grammar: There are a few spelling and grammar errors. Some of the Chinese phrasing trips me up as an English-only reader, but they're important to the atmosphere of the story. It's clear that each chapter goes through editing before it gets posted.
Character: One of the biggest flaws in most RR stories is that the protagonist and maybe one companion are the only well-developed characters. This story has a huge cast, and manages to give personality and agency to a huge number of them without losing focus on the core characters. I would like to see the non-human characters show that part of their nature more clearly - the three cats do this well but the trees, beasties etc. could focus a little more on what makes them different. At volume 6 the princes have reached a turning point and I'm excited to see how it will change them.
One small criticism - I could do without the chatroom interludes. They're very immersion-breaking. Though easy to skip since they're isolated to chapters of their own.
Overall an excellent story that deserves a much higher place in RR's r - SanicStrafeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is such a fucking fantastic story. Please continue writing this. I didn’t believe RRL had hidden gems but I’ve found one in this story. I’m not good with reviews but lemme just say you made me miss sleep because I decided to read this instead
- ShakeelRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This ks an incredibly good book. Its grammar and style are near perfect (I think I found 2 errors total). The story is interesting, new and well written. The characters have depth and grow.
Although it has a cultivation system it us more of a xianxia lite novel. For those who don't know that means that although the elements are present, they aren't exactly central to the story.
Something I really have to give the author props for is the lack of padding. There are no 'filler' chapters. Nothing is drawn out beyond reason and everything flows nicely. - tjma97Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is one of the best stories on RR right now. It has good world building, the characters are fun,the story grows and changes.Truly how many stories on this site have actuall character development.Your doing a great job.I cant wait to read the rest of your work.
Now to ad words so that this review will let me create it. - BedwigRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The grammar is good foe the most part, with minor spelling mistakes. There are some parts of the story where the sentences aren't consistent, which makes things slightly confusing to read.
The world building, though, is simply excellent.
The pacing is definitely slow, but that's what you should expect for this story, considering its tags.
The story is good, and I like the plot, although it dipped quite a bit into the 'CN female MC xianxia trope (The type with the transmigrated genius assassin/doctor/thief into the body of some kind of disgraced daughter)', that I usually hate so much, the auther still managed to write it to be alright.
The characters, though, are flat. For example:
The male lead is black-bellied, domineering, obsessive, and jealous, only good to his wife, doesn't care for his children, and that's basically it for him. But his backstory is pretty interesting, though, and he has a reason to act like he does.
The romance isn't cringy, which is something I value a lot. Though the romance is pretty generic, it's still done pretty well, although it felt slightly forced.
