- BlackMarch97Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I read a lot of stuff on this site and I can say without a doubt this is my favorite this year at the very least.
The I have not noticed any grammer issues and prose is well done, it isn't trying too hard to be something it does not have to be as is so common with some RR novels that take themselves too seriously, it fits the tone and content of the story well.
I love the characters and their internal doubts and personal monologues. I think the author gives some nice perspective and development with his alternating POV each chapter but with enough overlap between events and dialogue that it feels connected without being repetitive.
The story is a little horny but i think it is done tastefully enough that it is not distracting or a focus of attention.
Overall i love it! thanks for the work Author and I hope to read many more chapters! - J. DavisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The MC is a young man, not OP. He survives a difficult situation, encounters foreigners and works to learn a new language. The communication issues and multiple viewpoints (so far, MC and one of the foreigners) are well considered. The plot is plausible and there seems a well defined goal for both parties. Recommended!
- sirhumphreyapplebyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The plot is simple and easy to follow. The pace of the story is good with nothing feeling rushed or dragging on. There is a language barrier that is slowly brought low but the misunderstandings that come from it are a nice touch. The protagonist has normal humanly faults both physical and emotional which makes him relatable.
Playful title. I really like the cover art. I recommend this to read. - tiger112003Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great traditional fantasy, non-LitRPG story. The MC is intelligent and reasonable, but still has realistic flaws. The story has a good pacing, with an overall goal for the characters visible, but with a number of interesting side-arcs to the story that are really starting to develop as of this review. Good supporting characters as well, and I am always a sucker for a good multi-perspective story in which you can see the impact the MC has on the world and others. Will definitely come back for more.
- GapaotRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Not the greatest, but pretty great.
The story is about a young, earnest and kind guy who has to deal with surviving and getting his life after almost dying and getting saved by elf slaves in a country where free elves are outlawed.
Grammar is good, nothing to say about it, it works, and it reads smoothly with no major snags aside from rare typo.
Style is decent, could've been bit better to ensure story flows quick enough in moments where you may feel overabundance of small details or extra descriptions. Still, it is a nice pace that goes in unhurried, methodical way.
Story is simple, and once it goes past surviving, it does find some lows where it focuses more on romance than plot, most of the setting also fairly generic and not really memorable, aside from magic system.
What really shines there are characters. MC is flawed, hard to trust, often awkward or bit too careful, but he's also a nice and kind person that's not afraid of killing or lying when necessary, and doens't shy from violence if it comes to him.
Elves have distinct, fun personalities, each one feels distinct, and while focus is more on a female cast and his romance interests, both male elves and solid support cast breathe life into the story and have their own moments. Big part of the book is MC dealing with being a legal (and magically enforced) master of his slaves, and having to play at least part of it to keep them safe and legal in eyes of the law, and therefore having massive moral issues with his attraction to him.
Whole thing mostly reads comfy, it's not a big struggle, and it is an enjoyable way to spend time. Give it a try, it starts strong and keeps you hooked. - ThousandLeavesRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5It was not bad, but I kind of lost it as it went due to reasons. I am probably not the intended audience, failing to check some of the tags.
I liked the language barrier, although it might have been too thorough for me.
It was believable up to a point. There was a moment at which I had a feeling it switched from survival to slice of life quite bluntly. The MC also felt like too good given his background.
That is it, because I am not a romance and slice reader, so no point discussing it. Let's just say the romance aspect is rather strong there.
There was also this thing I failed to understand.
The MC reports himself as a sole survivor to go legal with the property, while silent about keeping the slaves. Having slaves is legal and the slaves are the highest value cargo there. That means, he is trying to legalize himself by reporting the find while acting as if there were no slaves while the slaves were the most expensive item there.
Feels like reporting to find a wallet, but saying it was absolutely empty. Better to keep silent then, no?
