Description
This series has been stubbed. Thank you to everyone who made this possible--I may come back to work on this series someday, and I'd like to restore it to RR when the time comes. For now, though, this page will serve to contain bonus scenes/vignettes/FAQs.
Edge Cases can be read on Amazon or Audible! Here are the links:

Rare classes and powerful skills are helpful. Too bad the system doesn't seem built to handle them. What even are all these errors?
Our team of outcasts and adventurers will have to rely on their trust - and the bane of all stories, healthy communication- just to survive, let alone understand what the system is doing. Because they're quickly realizing that not all is as it seems, and it's doing something to people, to monsters, and maybe even to the gods themselves.
And their goal isn't just to survive; it's to make things better. It's a good thing they're not doing it alone.
---
Edge Cases is an attempt to take the LitRPG genre and the overpowered MCs trope and write a story where numbers aren't everything. Sometimes it takes trust, support, and just a touch of being very, very clever.
Expect a mix of action, slice-of-life, friendship, and ominous worldbuilding.

- rexcorvusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Edge Cases is an incredible story that dives into its world as much as it explores the unique party dynamics of the characters. I am definitely looking forward to what comes next.
The story does bear a passing resemblance to Armor, but only in the fact that there is a sentient suit of armor. That's where the similarities end. However, if you enjoyed Armor and stories with a System, then you should give Edge Cases a shot. - AvitueRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don't review often, and I definitely ain't the biggest LitRPG fan around, but Edge Cases definitely caught my eyes. The handling of "rare" classes was done particularly well, and the amount of messing around with the system was just delightful.
I would recommend this to any LitRPG reader out there, period. - BFDynamoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Starts off with somewhat experienced characters and gets right into the action. As the story progresses the main characters' motivations and backstories are revealed, largely through their interactions with each other and with other characters in the world. Main and secondary characters are clearly distinct with unique personalities and manners of expressing themselves, and the author has done this well enough that you can identify which character is active based on what they are saying or doing.
What really sets this book apart is the characters' investigation into what is going on with their world. This sets up a nice opportunity for the reader to speculate about what is going on as the investigators uncover more clues, with a big payoff towards the end of the first book. I'm really looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here! - BlessingOfNoOneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a story. A story about people, about ideas, about a System.
An adventure, as many others are.
This is a story. But it's also something else.
This was a journey.
A long journey, lasting years.
I did not love every second of it.
I'd do it all over again. - emily_mccoshRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I haven't read super far into this story yet, but it seems I've reached the end of the first little arc, and I'm a slow reader, so I'm going to review now and get back to reading!
Style: This is definitely the most litrpg story I've read so far on RR, and it's awesome! I'm pretty new to the genre as a whole, and sometimes I struggle with getting into stories with lots of stats and charts, but I really enjoyed this one and actually read all the blue boxes and stats instead of skimming. The take on the system having so many errrors is intriguing!
Grammar: I think I noticed a typo or two, but the writing is very clean and nothing remotely kicked me out of the story.
Story: The system is so cool! And the chained god aspect is fascinating, stuff like that is my jam and immediatly made me even more invested. I love the plot so far, the excellent worldbuilding, and the way the characters work together so well as a team...
Character: Speaking of CHARACTERS, I love them! :D Found family is the best trope is books, and this one has quite a bit of it right out of the gate. We've got a group of characters who have already worked with one another for a while, yet they all still have plenty of secrets that need revealing. They fight extrememly well together and watch each other's backs. I'm a sucker for a group of "monster" characters who rely on one another and care deeply. Best part of this story, hands down, even slightly better than the crazy system. :D
In summary: everyone should read this, now I'm off to read the next chapter! - quartetsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have never written a review before. This story needs to be read, and it needs to be talked about. It is unreal to me that this is on Royal Road.
This is art, more than a mere progression fantasy or partial deconstruction or subversion of the same. It evokes that odd and dissonant joy that comes from witnessing something that is more than one could possibly expect, that transcends entertainment and resonates with with something of ineffable value, precious and all too rare, deeply fulfilling yet never enough.
What is perhaps most remarkable is the character work--real, varied, and wondrous--each chapter singing with the fundamental necessity of empathy in every moment of lived experience. The grammar is as close to flawless as any story I have read on this site, and I have read many. The style and prose are both commendable, worthy of standing alongside and at times surpassing nearly anything one might find on a bookstore's shelves.
It is terribly disappointing to me to see how many of the negative reviews consist of reviewers mistaking their own preconceptions and weaknesses as readers for flaws on the part of the author. No, not every party needs to have internal conflict. No, you do not need to be spoonfed constant reminders of who the characters are and what the look like. No, the pacing is not bad just because you would prefer something different. No, the use of relatively straightforward vocabulary does not indicate deficiency. Doing more with less is in fact a sign of mastery.
I have been searching for the quote that was hovering at the back of my mind as I read each chapter of this work, and finally I remembered: "“We cannot avoid using power, cannot escape the compulsion to afflict the world, so let us, cautious in diction and mighty in contradiction, love powerfully.”
― Martin Buber
As with all great literature, in a small but powerful way, I am better for having read this. You should read it too. - 1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0TL;DR : I waited far too long to read this, and I wish I started sooner. I'm already hooked 7 chapters in, and it's just an absolute blast to read. The characters are vivid, dialogue and thoughts flow beautifully, and the plot does not dissappoint.
Style : The writing style conveys the exact right amount of tension and uncertainity while also not leaving the reader starved of information. Specifically, the fight scenes are written extremely well; they are woven together with complexity, yet are perfectly clear to understand.
Story : The premise is introduced mid scene, but at the start of the story. It's a unique beginning, but pulled off masterfully. Plot development is intriguing, with much is left unknown. The vague hints so far are chillingly ominous, and motivate me to continue reading above anything else.
Grammer : I noticed no grammatical or technical issues, and don't have complaints in this aspect.
Character(s) : The characters are all unique and fleshed out, they don't feel contrived in the least. Stories with multiple main characters are hit or miss, but considering the depth of each, I'm highly optimistic.
Overall : There is no major issue with the story, it's just an extremely well written LitRPG. Unless you absolutely loathe the genre, this book will stun you. It feels much more like a professional story I would find at a bookstore than a web serial. - Devilsoul6802Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is well written, and emerses you into the world, the characters and plot are well thought out, and the way in which the banter between the characters gets a chuckle out of me. I really enjoy this spin on a litRPG, this story will captivate you and root for the main characters.
- ErdosRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Awesome title and cover, a blurb that explains where it comes from as well as where it's going. This series teaches a masterclass on how to hit the ground running. One month of daily chapter releases in the most popular genre category. The synopsis written with the site's power-readers in mind, promising a fresh take on the familiar.
Now, enough meta-discussion. Start with the review already.
This LitRPG displays an awareness of genre-tropes without falling to them. And without (completely) subverting them, really. At. The. Same. Time. Normally such awareness takes the reader (me) out of a book entirely, making it a slog to read. Not here.
We're dropped right in the middle of such a story, the four main characters established well enough by the end of the first chapter, and well-established a few chapters in. The fluent style of narration doesn't confine itself to singular points of view, which helps bring the group of protagonists alive. They come with their own personalities and back-story. Each of the four gets to be interesting.
This is not a slow start. And not going into spoilers or anything, but the premise set in the synopsis doesn't take its time either.
In the synopsis the author states his intention to “attempt to take the LitRPG genre [somewhere]”, and I'd say he succeeds in that. In playing around with the concepts of the genre, we're shown their limitations as well as some interesting possibilities.
The story is close to what is common for the genre, yet so, *so*, far from standard. Like the usual story of this kind it basically is what happens when a DnD-group keeps rolling natural 20s. Unlike the usual, things break.
System worlds are broken, as a concept. I think that point comes across quite clearly.
The text is easy to read, the density of information it holds worked in very well. The grammar is good. Typos get corrected, overall no issues.
World and characters are knit together superbly well and within the reader's expectations. Setting and descr - Homeless_OneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Four characters, each with a class or skill that is wildly abusable under the System that is everpresent, and the system doesnt know how to handle that. What differentiates this System from the System of other stories is that it is not nearly perfect. While incredibly powerful, there are definite signs that the system has edges that fray. Such as when an immovable skill meets an unstoppable one kinda thing. it just so happens that a party of broken skills tend to compound the Errors quite rapidly to the point that all bets are off on what happens next. Each character has their own secrets and story to tell, and i love what the Author has done so far. No Character feels one dimensional, and the worldbuilding feels very natural and well done. any info dumps are tastefully done and make sense in the context of whatever chapter they're in. Definitely Must read.
