Description
The kingdom of Elunara, once known for its beautiful fields of white lotus trees, the land lies in ruin after a brutal invasion. Amid the destruction, Uther, a legendary leader, is gravely injured, his body soaked in blood and his spirit fading. Arelith, a determined medic, refuses to give up on him, using their healing magic to keep him alive despite the overwhelming odds. As invader knights close in, Arelith vows to fight on, even in the ashes of the kingdom, holding onto the hope that Uther’s survival could rally the people. Together, they make their final stand, determined to show what Elunara truly stands for.

- RznRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5For being as short as it is, it does use a fair amount of shorthand to establish the characters and explain the situation. It goes about as well as expected, but there is a twist at the end and the writing itself is really good. It does not have a typical narrative arc and doesn't really fit the mold of a short story for it begins at the climax of what would be expected to be a longer narrative and the set up to that is cut. While it tries to be emotional, it doesn't have the foundation to really do that. This is still a pretty strong short story that just had weight of worldbuilding and action limiting the amount of emotional development that was possible.
