Description
Kelsey didn’t ask to be reincarnated. Nor did she want to be reborn as a dungeon. But it’s not like a disembodied soul has any choice in the matter when selected by a God.
Complaining wouldn’t get her anywhere, so Kelsey got to work. Being a dungeon, digging a hole of ever-increasing depth and complexity. Spawning monsters and treasure. Killing adventurers. It’s not easy being a small dungeon in the backwaters of an unimportant kingdom, but she did her best to be the best dungeon that she could be.
Until, finally, she got her chance. Time to seize it with both hands. Time to grab life by the throat with both hands. And she'd start by making lifevery difficultfor one hottie adventurer.

- ijuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I liked this very much. The pacing is nice, and I like the comradise. Sex is well written, and not only from male pov. I do wonder why nobody is getting pregnant .
I like how callous Kelley is, and how her differing morals (and the morals of other species) are taken into account and treated pragmatically. You don't see this often outside racism: too many fantasy stories have elves looking down on humans, while sharing the same culture, préférences etc.
Read the first books from Amazon, had the feeling that the copyedit added unnecessary americanisms and spelling, but without having bothered to compare to the original, can't be sure. I don't THINK Kelsey is from the States, so why are all the cultural references in context of it ("gun in the style of US civil War").
The only bigger minus I have that Kelsey is at points too "genie a la Robin Williams". I like her antics in principle (the hard hat joke hits because Kelsie had designed/made it earlier for her own amusement, and just happened to use it when others were watching; the nuclear reactor scene was AMAZING), but the jokes and references that are mostly meant for readers are a bit much ("I want to be a bard"). While Kelsey isn't overly calculating, she seems like a person who remembers who's in the room with her.
There's also a continuing problem of the author forgetting -even after having explicitly saying so - that the characters aren't speaking English. Jokes that hinge on English grammar ("it's smokeless, not smokenone"), or development/etymology of English language shouldn't even come up. That said, I appreciate that the characters have language problems, which is rather rare in books written by anglophones. That being said, they seem to be solved very easily. Should the thief in the party even speak the native language of the main characters?
But these might be more obvious to nonnative speaker.. - Domovie1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Excellent story, with reasonable character development over time, a bit of humour, and some politics to keep things lively!
While opinions will vary, I think the key is a mixture of viewpoints that can come together and cleave again cleanly; no wild, jarring changes in scene like we see in some stories. - DaScootRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story has a particularly unique take on the dungeon core classic, by having an MC who's been doing this for decades, rather than the usual approach of following a newly-born DM who's just learning the ropes. And I do say MC, as despite the 'Male Lead' tag, the female dungeon master is about equal as a character and also provides almost all of the driving force for the story. If I really felt Anton was meant to stand alone as a protagonist I'd perhaps be upset by his relative lack of agency, but that's not really the objective of the story. As it is, I really find it difficult to find anything to complain about.
While it's often common for dungeon cores to 'collect' supporting characters, you could say that this story is told from the perspective of of those collected individuals. Kelsey is occasionally cold-hearted, and quite pushy, and much of the story revolves around how the various humans try to keep up with her plots. The harem aspect is in fact her idea, not the male lead's, although so far people seem to be more or less open to persuasion.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the story progresses (both in terms of Kelsey's schemes and the relationships). - KristokillerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've been listening to this series on Audible for a while now and love this book. It makes me laugh the whole way through and then adds to it by keeping me interested in what comes next.
If your looking for a fun story about a woman who actually likes to have fun and accepts she the trouble in everyone's life you'll love this book. - RelyetRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0After having just finished the audiobook for this one about ten minutes ago I knew I had to come and give a review, because wow
I went into this expecting it to be pretty fun and funny based on the description but it very quickly went above and beyond my expectations by making some very surprising, but very welcome narrative choices. First and foremost the story does not, in fact, take place from the POV of the dungeon herself, but from that of the humans that orbit around her, and second the dungeon is not a new one starting from scratch but one that is already established up to a point that most dungeon core stories only hope to reach while starting from scratch. Both of these open the story, and the dungeon, up to be a lot more flexible and engaging with the plot. Things don't happen to this dungeon, this dungeon makes things happen and that is super refreshing.
My second biggest point of praise is the romance, and, specifically, the bi and poly romance, a delightful surprise that I did not at all expect to find in an dungeon core story. For those of you who might have seen the "harem" tag and been worried, I would like to put those worries to bed, as the situation found just in the first book alone is more of a well written, mutually supportive multi-partner relationship with a clear appreciation for open communication. And that does include during the "bedroom scenes" which I am also here to say are just as competently constructed as the rest of the story around them. I never found myself going into one feeling like it was coming out of nowhere or that it was detracting from the story, which is also a pretty impressive feat in itself.
As for the story itself, it is well put together, most of the time it's a low boil of many small things happening to move events forward, then occasional big flare ups, and a suitably tense and harrowing climax that even makes room for a few nice cool down semi-epilogue chapters afterward, and all in all everything has pretty grea - RoidhogRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An interesting, well written story with some twists and a creative narrative choice. A woman reincarnated as a dungeon attaches herself to a hero and gets involved in his quest, but told from the hero's pov.
My main criticism is the characters, a more fleshed out cast would've taken this tale to another level. The spectacular decision to tell the story from the hero's perspective carries hard as it gives a lot of opportunities to explore the main fmc Kelsey's craziness and mysterious motivations. However, other characters, including the mc start out cookie cutter, and they have very little character development throughout 3 books. Kelsey is the excellent whetstone of interpersonal conflict and drama to grind against, yet there's not enough of these conflicts, when they do happen they don't seem to lead anywhere and the mc and co's relationship with her are left quite ambiguous (and thus felling hollow).
It leaves me to wonder if the subtle superficiality could be a result of the limitation of the author's current capability, or it reflects how cynical and detached Kelsey, the real protagonist of the story, sees the world around her.
Pacing also deserves some minor criticism. Opportunities for character development-focused chapters that go underutilized, inconsistent frequency of steamy sex chapters between books and their less than strategic placement, etc...
Despite criticisms, I recommend this story, it's a fun read. Just wished it could do more. - SniperkingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is pretty good. It's very well written with little to no problems with grammar. It is early in the story but I expect good things from this
Some things to note though:
So the synopsis at this time only mentions Kesley but Anton seems to be at least a deuteragonist if not the actual MC considering this has the male lead tag and not female so keep that in mind.
It also has the harem tag which might be hit or miss for some people but whatever your expectations are regarding that I advise you to read to chapter 5 for yourself first, you'll be surprised.
Lastly, and this is just a personal gripe, I don't really enjoy the slave dynamic. Not that it happened, but that Kesley could do that to someone with no remorse or plans of releasing him and maybe even bringing him back from the undead to continue. It just doesn't sit well with me and I try to forget it. That's the only point in the story I really dislike. All in all,
a very good read that I highly recommend. - blacksun115Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0By the author of phantasm, the story is great and funny. The MC is a reincarned as dungeon. The sex part is mostly in the start and less to nothing after. We discover the story trought another charactere wich is really funny. We discover the world and the rules slowly over time.
- crewman_51Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Don't be put off by the dungeon core title the location changes and there and many different characters. I don't write many reviews but this one definitely deserves more attention it's really fun. I love the characters and the world is interesting. I'm a bit unclear on the power levels of the different characters but I imagine that will fill out as time passes.
- Embor77Royal Road★ 0.5Love the story until I reached chapter 6 and realized there was no more of book 1. One of the few stories I have read that I actually get into. Kinda bummed that I can't keep reading it here.
Was looking forward to see how the interaction between the 3 played out with the "love" triangle that was formed.
I typically listen to books while at work waiting for clients and this one happened to appear as an add on a chapter and the synopsis caught my attention, just to start and go from chapter 6 to lIke chapter 57.
If you can not tell I am running out of words to say, it requires a minimum of 200 words and I wrote mine post in like 30 originally. So I filling out the rest of the 200 in fluff. While trying not to bash on the story so that hard. Need only another 45 more words....
I got a chuckle out of the explanation of the 2 skeletons, and her name for them. The dungeon core personality and the way she acts is great.... there is only so much I say with summarizing 6 chapters in less then 40 words.
