Dungeon Management

Description
Riven, a rookie demon intern, was only supposed to restock health potions and scare a few adventurers. But when he accidentally sells a party a "mega-boost elixir" instead of a basic potion, they power up, storm the dungeon, and defeat his cranky boss, Sorvax the Terrible, on the final floor.
Now stuck with the job, Riven’s only goal is to avoid being killed by adventurers and to keep the dungeon running without any clue of what he's doing. Between accidentally reanimating undead janitors, setting off his own traps, and dodging enraged heroes looking for loot, Riven has his hands full—and not a single day off in sight.
Can Riven keep the dungeon in one piece and survive his “promotion,” or will he end up as just another casualty in the dungeon management business?

- realreaderRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Follow up Updated review of my initial first chapter review(now that the novel has 10 chapters)
in my opinion the novel hasn’t deviated from the quality it started with. The start was what drew me in initially as it was quite interesting, that instead of focusing on a the main character or their aspects, it focused on the backstory in an entertaining way, which is uncommon nowadays unfortunately and in this space.
the plot is kind of straightforward as of right now, I don’t think you can really deviate from the synopsis, but it’s maintained a comedy flair in some of the chapters, while also not turning the entire novel into a circus.
the novel is shaping up to be something special. The growth from the first chapter to the tenth is clear, with a strong blend of style, story, and (in this case, reasonably) little character development. But I think that last part is due to the character’s disposition and position in the book. Perhaps it’s just too early for significant character development.
i highly recommend to read this if you enjoy well crafted, longer form content that seems like it will be around for a while. I can see this becoming a habit of mine to read this novel daily, which is fantastic.
excited to see where the story goes next! - TheEarlofBronzeRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Story has potential, the setting is very strong, and the main character has some potential, but the "story" so far has been 10 chapters of essentially just banal infodumping. The author seems obsessed with the idea that every one of his readers must understandly every conceivable nuance of how to construct a dungeon yet all that is accomplished is chapter after chapter full of paragraphs that had my eyes glazing over and my thumb scrolling past.
That the chapter which was 50% the pov of one of the dungeon delvers was by far the most interesting and engaging part of 10 chapters is a bad, bad, sign.
Author, details of a world need to serve a purpose... do not confuse info-dumping for world building, they serve drastically different purposes.
There were two real events in from chapters 3-12, and neither of them were particularly served by the 10ish other chapters. You need to either cut a large amount of this filler stuff, or spread it out around constructive character development and/or interactions, actual world-building (almost always inseparable from character developmemt) and plot-movement.
It's 13 chapters and I do not have any idea who riven is aside from a dolt. I do not know why he wants to be in dungeon management, why he doesn't want to leave when his world literally crumbles around him, whether he can leave, what the consequences of doing so would be, whether there even are consequences for doing so, or what happens if he botches the dungeon job.
There are not even HINTS at these kinds of questions, such that I feel unconfident you yourself have asked or considered them.
Without these motivations, goals and or challenges to overcome, the whole story is drained of purpose and meaning, and becomes little more than a DnD master building a dungeon crawl for his party. Fun for him, and no one else.
If I have judged to harshly to quickly I apologize, message me if it is undeniable that my criticisms are false and I'll give it a second shot.
Practice makes perfect - Mader LevapRoyal Road★ 0.5This story awfully looks like AI-generated slop. Author was too lazy to edit out all incoherent bits (I can only imagine how it looked before edits). Needless to say, this gets lowest possible score.
While AI-generated stories are allowed on RR (they seem to really want to exclude these, but enforcement is impractical), this story is not marked as such.
