Book 1 of Dungeon Inspector can be foundhereon Amazon!
Dungeons exist all over the world. These areas are the sole providers of magical crystals and, like everything profitable, that means they are heavily regulated. The people who manage them are called Dungeon Inspectors.
The Halfling known as Badger is sent to show the Department of Dungeon's newest Elven recruit the ropes. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, Ferrisdae is everything the aged inspector is not. Armed with youthful optimism and a sharp mind, her unwavering enthusiasm quickly gets under his skin.
The new duo has just finished their first inspection when they're called back to headquarters for the most dangerous type of mission the department gives out: subjugation. The Land Pirate, Raitheus Razorbeak, has stolen something important on his way to the Thousand Year Blizzard—something that may or may not have come from another world.
Though their time together has been turbulent, Badger and Ferrisdae will need to learn to work together if they're to stand a chance at stopping Raitheus before schemes from faraway lands plunge their continent into fire and chaos.
Follow Badger and Ferrisdae on their journey to subjugate the dangerous Land Pirate Raitheus Razorbeak and destroy his dungeon once and for all.

- BumpRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story has been fun to read, overall. The premise is interesting and the world feels well lived in even though we haven't spent much time in it yet. Big fan of the full chapter spent on trivia, actually! The characters all feel established enough and their interactions feel good, although I feel like dialogue could be a little improved here and there.
Overall, I have really enjoyed reading this novel and am excited to see how it develops! - RestuIbuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The narrative of "Dungeon Inspector" follows the character of Inspector Badger (and his elf rookie Sorceress Ferrisdae), who assists novice proprietors of dungeons in conforming to regulations established by the governing body, the Department of Dungeons.
Story: While I am not typically inclined towards the sub-genre of dungeon core, this particular work stands out to me as an exception due to its unique perspective of a professional within the Department of Dungeons industry, rather than that of a typical adventurer looting or constructing dungeons for the purpose of amassing a high body count.
Style: The narrative is conveyed in first-person, with a straightforward and unadorned writing style, mimicking the language of a working individual relaying their story. It is an enjoyable, easy read. The world-building is effectively executed through the perspectives of characters such as Ferrisdae and others, avoiding the common pitfall of excessive expository information dumps often found in Table Top settings, that I myself would react the same as King Krad: "Oh, no, I think I’ve got it". (Long life Rat King Krad!)
Grammar: The style has been succinctly outlined in the designated section. I don't have any additional observations regarding the grammar usage.
Character score: I love the interaction between Badger and Ferrisdae. No, I actually love the overall interaction, dialogue, and banters in this story! Now, now, If you don't want to work with another rookie, you can leave Ferrisdae to me then.
Yes, the first chapters are a fun read. If you love fantasy check it out. If you are also into dungeon-core, why still wait? - Temaki-donoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Dungeon Inspector is, I suspect, the first story I give five stars. It deserves it. It's gripping, fun, and very wholesome.
The author's style is refreshing; while the story deals with themes like relationships, loss, and work with the seriousness they deserve, there is just enough nonsense to keep the tone light. The setting is original and rich, full of strange magic and very relatable bureaucracy.
The plot is fun and progresses at a decent pace. No time is wasted, and it is off enough the beaten path to keep me guessing. I look forward to book 2!
The story is, however, mostly character-driven, and this is where it really shines. The main duo are fun, interesting, and charming, and I loved getting to know them. They are well-developed, but there is still a lot of potential to get into in future books... and that's before we get into the secondary characters, which are also very well-written. The cast of Dungeon Inspector feels alive, if I am allowed some hyperbole.
The grammar is good. No complaints, and that's a compliment.
Overall, if you enjoy slice of life, adventure, or comedy, this is a must read. I am sure you won't regret it. - TurboZombie42Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I loved the story and characters, and am going to follow the author to eagerly await the continuation. I hope that the group of four stays together, they seemed to grow well together. The quality of the writing was excellent. The story flowed well. A few things could have been fleshed out a little more, but for a story that was supposed to be like half this length when it started I guess we got more than we were supposed to! Just wished there was a little more on the DM, MoD before the end. I’d rather have a shorter story that ends well, that can be continued, than one that goes on forever without coming even close to explaining anything. All in all a great read! Now for word salad to meet the 200 word minimum. Have I hit it yet? No? How about now? There’s a minimum word count, but you only tel me total characters?
- Elijah CookRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a lovely read that treads the line between, buddy cop and fantasy adventure. There are a few hints that as things advance the author will add more litrpg elements to the story as well. So far everything is melding well and works lore is developing. I am really enjoying this story and look forward to how it will develop.
- Eric VanderlipRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Dungeon Inspector is the story Dungeon Inspector Badger who helps new dungeon owners ensure that the dungeons are up to code, for the Department of Dungeons of course.
Style: a consistent perspective and very smooth writing. Dialogue is natural. Pacing is brisk and engaging. No complains.
Story: Tone, style, and setting reminds me of Piers Anthony's work. It's exactly the type of thing he would write as take on the GameLIT genre (and I mean that as the highest complement).
Grammar: Near perfect. My need to edit went mostly unfufilled.
Character: In pseudo-serious comedies, characters drive the narrative. That's the case here. Badger and the new rookie he's supervising, Junior Dungeon Inspector Ferrisdae Anne Runelara, play off each other perfectly ("You're going to be an annoying ball of sunshine the whole time, aren't you?"). The rest cast feel just as alive, bursting with personally, from the flamboyant and supportive Count Sarolious Etomine Falsavar to the adorable and pompous rat king Krad. A joy to watch the interactions.
Conclusion: I highly recommend Dungeon Inspector because of the excellent humor and compelling characters that will instantly grow on you. You'll find yourself relentlessly click "next chapter" to discover what happens next. It's an addicting read. - Jeffrey WattsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really enjoyed reading this, honestly that's most of it. That's the main criteria for me. I didn't notice any grammar or spelling mistakes big enough to disrupt my reading. The writing style was a decent flow that I enjoyed following along with.
Yea, overall a very fun and enjoyable read. - JusttryingtofindawayRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is a blast, from the first paragraph I was introgued. I kept reading far past what is technically required. I couldn't help it! The banter, unique characters, and delightfully new setting really hooked me, and then reeled me in! Every chapter had me laughing and generally enjoying myself. It's funny while remaining grounded in actual economic principles. This author knows what they're doing and has something really special here. Well worth the follow and favorite.
Style: Classical third person narrative. The dialogue flows well and so does the rest of the story. I do wish slighly more time was put into setting desciption outside of the dungeons. But that's just a small personal opinion.
Story: Badger himself is full of mystery, and his junior has an atypical origin story. Personally I'm hoping we get an interlude from the perspective of an adventurer. Do adventurers know that the DOD exists? If so how do they feel about it? I'm very intrigued to see more from this story. It has so much potential.
Grammar: Could benefit from perhaps one more pass to catch some tiny errors. Otherwise perfect.
Character: See the Story score, but I am seriously intrigued by each and every one of the characters introduced so far. I hope the Rat King gets more powerful and gets relocated/revisted later! The jobs of the Main Characters really allow so many varried and different settings and monsters that I really appreciate. There is so much life in this story. I can't wait to see more. - LovatRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0At only fifty chapters this is a relatively short fiction. In that short amount of time though the author skillfully weaves a tail of a somewhat lovable curmudgeon that puts up a harsh front to keep the world from realizing what a soft touch he is. It has adventure, mystery, suspense and comedy in a delightful well balanced mix. If you are looking for something decent to read you could do a lot worse than giving this a try. Trust me, I have done a lot worse.
- Maou RazonicaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Ok, I lied. It's not really a core per se, but that's what the genre is called.
Story: This is dungeon management on a macro level, rather than a micro one. It skips all the normal nitty gritty and shows us the final product to be scrutinized. The society of the world is built around that; Dungeons, and the complex industries that surround and thrive off of it. It's like the oil of their world, except... Actually, yeah, perfect analogy. Maybe minus the pollution, less deaths overall.
Anyway. The story mixes the grim reality of an industry that necessitates people dying, with quite honestly, a very fair and helpful comittee. I really enjoyed the ethics applied to dungeon manage, the regulations they had to follow. It's all just really good and ineresting worldbuilding.
Characters: The archetype would be a mentor-student type dynamic. It's very well-executed here, with a large distance between the two main leads at first, mainly because of the gruff and jaded mentor that is badger. But he is actually with a softer underbelly underneath all that shell, and already Ferry's(The student) upbeat and happy attitude is starting to tear down those walls.
Complex interpersonal relations that just simmers under the surface. Perfectly subtle, but not afraid to show itself when it is needed.
Grammar: Good. Great. Does its job. It flows well enough to be noticed.
Style: First person. Flows really well. Gives great insight into the character's psyche. Is able to deliver worldbuilding very openly and in great quantities, but without it feeling boring, like a meandering infodump.
Overall: Highly recommend, specially for fans of Dungeon Core stories that want a fresh take!
