Dungeon at the End of the Universe

Description
Through a twist of fate, someone managed to:
1) avoid death
2) find the System
3) become a Dungeon Core
And then, as if that weren't enough, also:
4) choose a UNIQUE combination of Aspects
Now, don't tell anyone I told you this, but UNIQUE is almost never good. Especially not if you don't know what you're doing. Especially not if your very existence depends on it. Especially not if others covet it.
What to expect:
Idk, how should I know?A silly little nothing-story
Yes yes, let's get it out of the way. The title is obviously a play on Douglas Adams's The Restaurant at the End of the Universe. And while I do plan of trying to go for the same sort of vibe, I want to make two things clear:1) this is most certainly not a fanfiction2) while I may be a bit inspired by the general vibe of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, it's been years since I read it so don't really expect any similarities

- Mazive GooberRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love every bit about the story. As this is a review this is gonna be kinda vague but you can probably spot what I referring to when I say the MC is basically handed a disintegration ray once you get a few chapters into the story.
Seemingly vague explanations give way to endless possibilities of uses as it shows that any possible interpretation of what an ability can do is good at any other interpretation, but it can just take skill and knowledge in using the ability to get there. Clay can become hard as diamond or diamond can be hard as clay with a single ability or a god can be as easy as a bug to kill.
This kind of story has had me staying up in the middle of night just to read it as soon as possible. It had left me wanting more as I had binged like 12+ chapters when I first found it. From my view it is a great story that leaves no doubt in mind that it is my actual favorite story I ever read. - Wizard OnLineRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0From the title seems a standard dungeon core story with the little original twist every new story needs, but then chapter 0 and some other paragraphs later on set the style of the narration (not the actual plot) to be a mix of Hitchhikers of the Galaxy and standard dungeon core stories.
That is, until the latest chapter (ch. 26), where we get a glimpse of what may be and understand that until now we only read about Arc 0.
An open door in front of us, leading to unknown lands, I am confident in leaving myself in the hands of "wazzap" (the author) to be led as they made such an amazing work with basically impromptu plots so far. - time looperRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great story like another reviewer alredy said even though it has dungeon in its name it’s not an standard dungeon story first of I has comedy as an big part of the story unlike many other novels but not only is it’s tone different the plot is also very different it almost reminds me of god protagonist story’s where a big amount of the charm is just watching the protagonist creat stuff and or changing the world trough direct actions or by just interacting with people in addition having time loop elements is always a plus just don’t get scared away by the ginormous system notification start
- BootrickRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Dear Reader, I too am a reader, not a writer. I realize, of course, that some of you readers are also writers, but I write this to say I am not... Not a writer.
Therefore, I find writing reviews of what I have read quite difficult. Yet, I must endeavor to impress upon you, kind stranger, my experience with this work of fiction. I do this in the hope that my words will lead you to read this silly little nothing story.
It is funny to me. I enjoy the author's turn of phrase, especially when imitating the style of Douglas Adams.
I don't want to spoil anything; ergo I hope it is sufficient to say that the combination of unique aspects for the dungeon of this novel are UNIQUE.
It reminds me a bit of Rock Falls Everyone Dies.
It's not perfectly written. There are still, at the time of my writing, a few spelling mistakes. However there were no errors so egregious one could not understand the prose. - KuroKuramaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story has a very interesting start, and...
...despite the fact I hate time travel stuff, in this story it is not made in a way that makes paradoxes (who knows why this is funny probably already read a few chapters), and Mc is using his time power well.
The characters are well written, and the building of dungeon is made in interesting way. The biggest downside of this story are grammar mistakes and missing letters or just wrong words used, but with better prove reading it all can be solved. - DuchyRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5*Clears throat*
Hallo, hallo, Duchy here.
Once again here to review a novel, and, as I have already stated: Papa paradox barely approves.
Mostly because he was mentioned in the novel (Barely), instantly making this novel a full 5-star experience, but, for fairness and justice for all the novels made by authors that did not have to capability to write about the greatest being to ever exist, I will be removing the +500000 stars bonus given by barely having a glimpse of papa Paradox inside this piece of literature.
And, since this is a comedy novel, I will be lowering my standards, slightly.
So, first, Style:
It's more of a comedy novel, so of course it's a bit more whimsical and wishy washy when it comes to style. But not to worry my good friends, the amount of jokes I can remember are nil, so they weren't violently cringe even if they weren't that good if they existed. My biggest problem is in something a bit less... Important.
The pace is slow, like, a snails pace. But then it's somehow also fast paced, somehow. Let's put it like this, most chapters are like little vertical slices, moments, a single action, at least for this novel. But due to the nature of dungeon cores, time passes very quickly. So it both feels like nothing is really happening while it also feels like for some reason the arc switched, like a punch from a blind spot.
It's not that bad, it even fits with the tone of the narration which comes out of the eyes of a certain person with below room temperature iq who bares witness to the greatness of papa Paradox- Which is why I personally think this is a legendary 2nd person novel, since papa paradox is the ACTUAL mc.
Then, with that finished, let's go with Grammar:
It's good, idk what to tell you. No joke no scam, while I do see it once or twice, I'm not going to have a heart attack because of it. And I'm the kind of person that can get annoyed because there are extra spaces between words a bit more than once or twice every ten or so chapters. You'll be - KirbyRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5First, a little preamble. The only dungeon core book series I've read is by Dakota Krout. It was maybe the first LitRPG book I ever found, and it got me hooked on the genre. I loved it.
Dungeon at the end of the Universe feels A LOT like that book, in a good way. There's a fun sidekick, a slow progression from nothing to something. The development of personalities and self-consciousness. A good amount of inner-dialogue as the MC figures out who they are as a non-human. And of course there's crafting, dungeon building, and questing.
This story is it's own thing, though. It's funny and self-deprecating. It's heady. It's exploratory and fun. It's nonsensical, as promised by the author, but also filled with traces of wisdom. Is the author crazy? A genius? A philosopher? Or a physicist? Don't worry, there aren't physics equations, but there are interesting skills that seem to synergize and give the author a pallet to paint a fun experience and a vivid picture.
The grammar is good and doesn't stick out. Which it shouldn't.
I'm not an expert in Dungeon Core genre, but I can tell this one has the makings of a good one. Especially if the relationship between dungeon core and sidekick transforms into one of complexity.
