Duck and Wolf
Community Rating
Description
Atticus (Adi) Wulfert comes from a long line of hunters, and now it's time for him to find his calling. Only... He's sort of a failure at it.
His girlfriend thinks he should get a real job, his first teacher was slain by werewolves, and his target has decided to become his not so warm and caring mentor. Quite the opposite of warm, really. Dead cold is more like it.
Adi isn't sure if he's being kept around as an emergency foodsource or if this vampire really wants to help him, but whatever the case may be, he doesn't have much choice in the matter.

- GoodOldChapRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Let's get this party started!!!
Give it a go; you won't regret it unless all the subpar content on RRL has warped your perception of reality so much that you can no longer enjoy good writing.
Western fantasy, complex characters, strong command of the English language - The Storm KingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An excellent example of good Urban Fantasy.
This has all the markings of a great series start - I do hope the author continues with more works.
The story is told through the POVs of a few main characters. We get to know their personalities quite well throughout and they interact in very realistic ways.
The world is fleshed out surprisingly well. There are big events happening to other people, whose waves reach and rock our characters. There might be even a war brewing.
Whilst there are quite a few forced coincidences - these are actually literally forced by in world forces.
The Threads of Fate have been spun - though by disused hands.
The negatives are a lot of grammar mistakes - though my opinion on that matter might be a bit skewed due to being a proud grammar fascist. And it in no way deminishes the excellent language used.
There are some slight hiccups in the story flow, mostly in a few POV changes and the usage of names from perspectives of characters that don't know them. The narrator is omniscient and impersonal, but it would still be a nice effect.
And a few things could be a bit better described or clarified, but only a few.
I strongly recommend reading it.
The synopsis doesn't do the story justice, so here is my attempt:
A young man, remaining heir to a clan of hunters of the supernatural, attempts his first hunt. His bravado, considering his Uncle died before he could teach him, might be unearned.
A slowly decaying Doctor of Asian Studies gets his leasurly afternoon reading interrupted. And not by the usual supernatural detective agencies, but by a civilian with no idea of what he is doing.
Perfectly happy to ignore the incidents he still finds himself forced, by one of those agencies, to deal with the loose cannon. He chooses to do this by becoming said loose cannons roommate, and forcing him to act as bait for monsters. He too needs to feed after all.
It doesn't go well.
A consequence of a literal rush job whilst spinning the Threads of Fate.
There is a - petercoRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5It's a good story. There's very few flaws. The characters are credible and neither stupid nor irritating. The plot has a decent place. The world is a pretty decent urban fantasy setting, more innovative than most.
But there's nothing particularly previously either. Nothing spectacular. Nothing that made me laugh out loud or made me feel strict emotion. - White FangRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0But with lot more additional monsters(post-humans, other folk). I like it. The characters are interesting, world building is also cool! Thanks for the story! Hopefully it's nothing like that books about position of the moon.
Well after reading the whole story it gave me an oddly enough feeling of satisfaction. That it ended too fast. Story felt sooo rushed, some moments were confusing. But it was nice little one.
