Minor spoiler below
Story is told between two main viewpoints, our m.c. and his mother. Theres a reincarnation element to it, but I honestly wonder what purpose it serves. Mostly because it's so easily replaceable it just feels unnecessary. First fifteen chapters are dedicated to john, our m.c. then the next 16 (most current chapters) are dedicated to his mother dene.
Grammar was fine, nothing that detracted from the story.
Characters are a bit of a mixed bag. John is ok. Nothing special. He's set up to be an OP mcguffin. CIA badass reincarnated with a high aptitude for cultivation in a sword and sorcery setting. I'm not sure what his journey will look like. If it's something silly like become the strongest, he's going to need some challenges. Likely social ones, because I dont see how this guy cant become an overpowered schmuck.
The mother dene is our other main character, and a much better one. She has such an interesting backstory, I'd rather continue reading about her than her son dene. I was genuinely upset by the time skip in her arc. Just felt like a missed opportunity. From tribe warrior princess, to slave, to combat tutor for the lord's eldest son, to not so secret lover. Her life story has so many obstacles and triumphs and bittersweet moments it feels like a waste to gloss all over it.
Final thoughts:
Ultimately, this is two stories in one at this point. I would separate them and maybe write both at the same time. It was so jarring jumping into dene's story like we did. Instead of being a brief flashback, we get 15 chapters of dene. Which was a happy surprise, but I honestly dont want to go back to john, I couldn't give a shit about him. As far as the sake of story progression goes, it just makes sense to have a brief flashback and a spin-off story. That way you can give both stories your full attention. Right now they feel incomplete. Also we have a desert right next to northern winters apparently. - alcelaphinaeRoyal Road★★★ 3.0First, it was going good, i was so into it, couldn't wait for MC's answer for unfair world that always pushing him around but these moments never came, but I keep read so that maybe I can see MC's revenge or his getting stronger but no. There is only setbacks for MC, only nerfs, as if world kicks him around then emptying his pockets and then splitting his face before leaving him to bleed to death.
Another problem is MC is reincarnator, so there should be a catch right? but no! MC has nothing special. He reincarnated by Cronos guy because he has so called "talent", then what? thats it. Almost 140 chapters but we didn't see any "talent", he is hardworking and trained from early ages with his CIA training from Earth, then he goes an academy and there are tens of his betters at his age. Yeah these noble kids have resources but you are MC, if a reincarnated MC is became our average figure then whats the point? Reincarnated, has "talent", twenty years old in 135. chapter but average at best.
And MC's goals are seems so far that I think if I want to see MC killing these smug nobles or slapping their asses, i need to commit myself to this novel because these things probably gonna happen in 1000ish chapters...
I readed almost 140 chapters but there is nearly zero moments make me happy or exicited... maybe earlier chapters... there is only feeling of remorse.
why should I read when mc splitted in the face at every fricking chapter? Should I bid my time for some muddy potantial which might come hundreds of chapters later? Author might thinking that not giving what readers wants and kicking MC around so he later has reasons and motivations is good but twenty fricking years passed, isn't it enough? I'm not sick enough to continue this torture. I suggest reconsider. - angryfanRoyal Road★★★ 3.0The story feels like the tv show Smallville. The main character seems like he is destined for greatness but has powers that are near useless outside of rare situations. I keep waiting for the something amazing to happen but i keep on getting mundaneness in a story about super heroes. The main character's powers are so limited that they are borderline useless in almost all situations.
Somehow the summary of the story is way better than the story itself
