Dreams Of Dragons [Progression Fantasy]
Community Rating
Description
Thousands of years ago, the dragon's disappeared. And with them, went the rain.
In their absence, the seasons stopped changing and the oceans dried into sandy plains, leaving the world a barren wasteland.
Hoping to put a stop to this, Bo - A suicidally curious young man - sets out to discover whatreallyhappened to the dragons.
Unfortunately, the lost race are lost for a reason, and finding them is easier said than done...
Elevator pitch:
This story has a similar concept to Eragon.
To put it bluntly, It's a slow-burn progression fantasy where a boy and a dragon work together to overcome massive odds.
However, the setting is unique, and I have put a lot of effort into making an interesting magic system that blends progression fantasy with more traditional high fantasy.
All of this, and an unconventional plot with plenty of shocking twists and turns has made this story something you won't want to miss :)
Chapters whenever I write them.

- seadog.Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very good story so far, hooked from chapter 1.
If you're looking for a well thought out post apocalyptic world with tribes full of interesting customs, deities, desert world with interesting creatures, and last but not least DRAGONS, you will like this.
Characters are written well. Our MC is a young boy dreaming about the world beyond him. He seems like a resourceful person who takes calculated risks. The story suggests that his way will be unorthodox which is always fun to follow. His tribe is an interesting collection of characters and the dialogue and banter are great.
There is a lot of mystery behind how the world ended up being desolate and I'm looking forward to seeing more worldbuilding and more reveals about the deities and dragons. The landscape is well described and the world just feels alive despite the apocalyptic nature to it.
There are very few grammatical or spelling errors. The style feels like professional writing. Prose is simple and straightforward while still being imaginative. I appreciate the little detours here and there from the MC's POV.
I'm looking forward to more and you should give it a read. Will probably update once we get into the thick of it. - softcorebashRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I will keep this short, simple, and sweet.
The premise is compelling. The story is thoughtfully crafted. The descriptions are beautiful. It almost makes me want to find myself in a desert and get an excruciating tattoo. (And I can't wait to read Crown and if you ever write more of the office story, that too!) - Elanor the Rainbow SunRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The dragons are gone, and a young boy is fascinated by how they msyteriously vanished. When he has to choose a blessing, instead of choosing Oasis, so that he can continue the tradition and survive as part of the desert tribe, he chooses Qui, the dragon god. The leader of the tribe isn't willing to take the risk, so the boy is given a trial to prove himself.
The characters are very detailed and complex for how few pages there are. The worldbuilding is fascinating, intruiging and promising. If the quality stays as it is now, it will be a very complex, deep and intricate world. The story starts already very promising and the really intriguing parts have only begun. The Grammar is decent, if there are any mistakes, they will be few and far between. - Isa BayfieldRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Didn't expect much. My, was I in for a good surprise. This plot is far more than " Boy dreams of dragons " . This is a very interesting story with complex ongoings. Well-written and hard to put down. If you root for the outsider who just knows he has to do what he has to do against the odds, this one is for you. His path is not an easy one, but he believes that once there were dragons around and It's profoundly important to find out where they have vanished to. His world simply could not be meant to be like it currently is. I like this hero very much.
- L1zar9Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really interesting and unique world, MC who's maybe a little naive but promising, excelent writing, ETC make this story one of the most promising I've seen in a while. It's still in a fairly early stage, and the titular dragon(s?) haven't made their appearance yet but from what I've seen it's not really lacking in anything. Looking forwards to future chapters!
- Quasar-guruRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a great story, hooks you in so quickly with the great characters. It's got a completely brilliant setting with authentic and original lore. I really appreciate the style of the story quickly makeing me wish for more. I'm writing this with the hope more people read this story.
- ButterBoy9000Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Will be following up with an advanced review once there's a little more of the story out. What's here so far is good.
Writing/Prose: Grammar/english is excellent, sentences flow well together, descriptions of the world are balanced, leaning neither under nor over descriptive for my tastes. I don't recall a single spelling or grammatical mistake, indicating to me the story is well edited. Prose stays simple and clean without diverging into the poetic.
Worldbuilding: So far the worldbuilding has been fascinating, and drip fed to the the reader, without relying on extensive info dumps, good use of show don't tell thus far. The worldbuilding has been the highlight of the story so far for me. We've yet to meet any of the aformentioned dragons yet, but there are whisperings and promises being made.
Characters: So far we've been introduced to multiple characters who all come in their own flavours and tastes, feeling unique and interesting. Our protagonist presently leans a little optimistic and is something of a dreamer, but we're not far enough along for me to comment more on such things. - vernkeithRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I only really have one major problem with this story. That of the leader of the MC's tribe being the only one to be able to navigate. It makes no sense to me.
The ability to navigate by stars would be to valuable a skill. For hunters if no one else. Wind can hide tracks in a desert in a few hrs. Even just being able to point to north would be a blessing. Also the ideal of only 1 person able to navigate would mean the death of the tribe to a bad accident. I get that the MC might not learn how to navigate, either form not bothering to learn how or no one teaching him. But anyone else especially hunters not learning just dose not make sense to me. However the story is very good besides the above rant. - scartacus60Royal Road★★★★ 4.0The story is good, the surprisingly fanciful wildlife the protagonist encounter adds to the charm of the story whose unusual setting remains interesting. Its not very often that we see a story taking place in a litteral desert, still the environment gives us interesting interaction between the characters on which the story focus, and the atmosphere of the nomadic fantasy tribes of the desert.
Good work. - AutobotRoyal Road★★ 2.0Have you ever had a small child explain their very believable and realistic dream to you? That might be the source of the storyline for Dreams of Dragons because it makes as much sense. Story has too many flaws to be enjoyable, unsure what other reviewers read, but the reviews do not match this story.
