In the frozen wilderness of the Snow Lands, Scypha embarks on hercoming-of-age journey with her wolf companion, Darko, when sheexperiences her first blackout. She wakes to find her hands stainedwith blood and no memory of what happened. As these episodes becomemore frequent, their cause unknown, she can only grow increasinglyfearful of the violent, uncontrollable forces growing within her andthe unsettling euphoria that always seems to follow.Far to the south, the dryad Eletha, a fervent guardian of nature whoharbors deep disdain for humans, faces her own troubles. Dealing withthe meat-men has never brought her forest or its people anything butgrief, and an inevitable conflict is brewing. One can hope for apeaceful solution, but given the unreconcilable differences betweenthe two peoples, other ends might be far more appealing...

I'll be honest I prefer Scypha's chapters more. I am wondering what Scypha is if not human and if it ties in to Eletha.
I can't recall having read anything similar to this on Royal road but I hope it gets the recognition it deserves. Definitely a worthy contender on the Rising Stars list if it isn't already. (I found it using advanced search)

All right, so this is an updated review (and also a very subjective one). It started out intriguing, and the writing/editing is absolutely top-notch overall, but I've been pretty unsatisfied with where the character arcs are going. Scypha seems to be such a kind soul, and has good friends plus a benefactor I won't name, yet still it impacts her place in the story 0%. I know it's labeled as horror, but still. So while she's well-written, her path just feels so forced. The half-goblin characters don't do it for me simply because Nass is annoying, pig-headed and brainless. LOL. One of my biggest problems, though, is in the highly political nature of this story. Eletha the dryad is hard for me to sympathize with on the environmental front because she's so hateful of humans for doing what every single land creature does (step on plants), and the way certain characters like our half-gob friend throw around the word "bigot" every chapter can feel a bit . . . modern, I guess? There are a lot of progressive ideals that don't quite seem like they match the (admittedly fictional) time period. That's just me, though—like I said, subjective review—so make of all this what you will.
I will be continuing with it once more is released, btw.
