Book 1 goes live on Amazon and Audible on May 16th, 2023. Chapters for Book 2 are continuing to post here. Thanks for all your support Royal Road.Dragon Sorcerer on AmazonIs it snark if you're a dragon?
Nico, a young dragon of barely fifty, is rudely chased from his home by a group of murderous adventurers. Of his entire clutch, only he and one sister remained, but now he is alone.
Isolated and hungry, Nico’s magic awakens, bonding him with Cami, a brave, young woman.
In order to hide from the adventurers’ pursuit, Nico takes on human form. However, once they discover that both he and Cami have magical ability they are required by law to attend the Imperial Academy.
Of course, he has to hide his true nature, which isn't always easy, given a dragon sized ego.
General Information-
https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B0C4HJB4RDA publication date has been decided on for Amazon. The story will publish on May 16th on Amazon with KU and Audible at the same time. That means that the content of the first book will be pulled 3-4 days before that. Material for book 2 will continue to be here.
This is a litrpg story complete with levels, classes, stats, gear, spells and skills, and some limited quests. The stats mean something for the development of the character but full stat sheets are only repeated in their own chapters after there have been changes. You could enjoy the story without the stats but I believe they add to it.
There is some romance which will be handled slowly. This occurs between multiple characters but is NOT harem in any way, nor will it be poly. There will simply be more than one couple in the story, each working through romances in their own way.
I included the gore tag because there is some significant violence but I don't believe it is particularly bloody. The story is told from the first person perspective of Nico, but there area number of interludes which tell the story from Cami's perspective but in 3rd person. She could be considered the second main character.
My goal is to post several chapters in rapid succession and then a chapter every day M-F.
The chapters will vary in length between 1800-4000 words as the story dictates. Most will be between 2000-2500 words. The prologue is shorter.

- VeritasVinoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Compelling characters and a story that sucks you in. Read all in a day and can not wait to read more.
Spelling and grammar errors are few and far between and thus not subtracting from the story.
If I had to say anything critical about the story (besides the length - need more chapters, pls) it would be my worry, that the fMC Cami will become a Mary Sue, but hey there are few indications that this is in the cards and you are reading a story from the perspective of a dragon a being, that is known for its hubris.
5/5 give it a try m8 - wizardfishRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is really good. REALLY good. But I have to admit that the aspect I'm enjoying most is the collision between the culture and mindset of an arrogant (but very naive) dragon with the typical culture and mindset of ... people. Nico seems to be actually trying to overcome his faults, albeit a bit grudgingly, mostly because he doesn't even understand why he needs to. The author's ability to sprinkle in a fair amount of adult humor into things is awesome and creates some LOL moments. (Never more than PG13 so far. I'm hoping that Nico and Cami finally do get together, but I'm willing to wait for that to happen organically. And waiting so long really gives opportunities for confusion and hilarity elsewhere, so it's all good.)
- DCHaruRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Sean Burke is a highly talented writer who has already published several books on Amazon. He has finally brought one of his stories to Royal Road, and it is excellent. Nico is a young (only fifty years old) dragon. As everyone knows, dragons are magical beings.Through an odd series of circumstances, our young dragon decides that being magical is not enough, he wants to learn magic. To accomplish this end, he must lower himself to posing as one of those hideous, mostly hairless primates known as humans. Along the way, he befriends a fourteen-year-old girl (or maybe she befriends him), and they become companions and maybe more. Follow Nico's adventures as he tries to adapt to the confusing and complicated world of human behavior and emotions.
The characters are engaging, the plotline is fun, and the litRPG elements are not too intrusive (a problem with some of the work you see here. Nothing like a fifteen-page character sheet every other chapter to break up a story). In addition, the prose flows well, and there are almost none (at least, I haven't seen any) of the terrible editing mistakes that, unfortunately, seem to be common here on the site. In all, this is an excellent piece of writing. It is no Lord of the RIngs, but as a light, fun, read, it succeeds admirably. - teloscientistRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.022 chapters in and I am Jonesin for the next chapter.
The basic premise is simple; it's all of the little world building details woven into the execution of the premise that has me hooked. It starts off almost innocent and playful and cute, with an MC dragon who's arrogance and insularity is prototypical for their species. Then, in each chapter, the plot and the interactions reveal additional dimensions that make the world more and more its own. as each piece of the puzzle falls into place the overall image and depth of the story makes me care more and more about the characters and how the plot is going to unfold
I find myself actually caring about Nico and his naive future dragon rider, and all of the different elements that their relationship will certainly grow into. I trust that this author will take me on a powerful ride to explore how they come together and carve out a role for themselves in this world
I'm also looking forward to the Academy arc that is currently on the horizon, as I can already imagine the adventures and hijinks that these particular kind of opie characters are going to have there.
All in all, I am pleasantly surprised that this seemingly silly novel has me so intrigued and excited. - Greg EckertRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I absolutely loved this book! The unique perspective of writing the viewpoint from a dragon kept me entranced! The grammar and spelling were all on point, the story line was both interesting and entertaining, and the characters interactions were great. I highly recommend this and every other book by the authors.
- Lodf2222Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Incredible story. Nico is great curious dragon putting aside his superior nature for curiosity. He has been driven from his home and the same group is forcing him to go to academy as per human requirrments for mages. Cami is great, now dragon blooded, sorcerer. Good pacing of world building. Like how the stats have been done .Looking forward to more.
- kereeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This book does a lot of things right. It uses multiple points of view to add something to the story. It manages to include backstory for side characters in a way that doesn't feel forced. I actually care for people who aren't the main character. Then there are relationships that we are watching there is building mystery in the background giving you something to look forward to. I don't see how the author can keep delivering in this style but if he does this book is going to be something far beyond what this website usually delivers. Little things here and there that I think an editor might improve but frankly don't detract from the story.
- OwlishRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The English is good, no problems there. The worldbuilding is kind of interesting. It's not a bad story, and clearly people like it.
The reason I don't is fairly simple- it is essentially a teenage romance, with a MC who doesn't understand basic human interactions, much less how to respond to females being attracted to him. Ug. Plus, apparently it's perfectly okay for much older teachers to have relationships with their apprentices, to the point that the mentors in the story seem to think they're being good by not insisting on such things. No thanks. - skeptruneRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5If you're a fan of the genre and like seeing authors have a but of fun with the genre then this is for you! The MC of the story is a stereotypical depiction of a dragon loosely resembling Vir from Blue Mage Raised By Dragons. The secondary character is his rider. It seems like the story will follow their progression and maybe also a romantic relationship. Thus far it's been about a 70/30 split between the MC and his rider.
Characters: The MC is a real standout here. The author does a fantastic job of bringing the dragon archetype to life and I really enjoy it. Everything from his dialogue to actions are inline with his vibrant personality as an arrogant softie dragon. However, the other characters are all somewhat bland in comparison. They have personalities and behave inline with them, but it's nothing special. Breathing life into the rest of the character cast is also something that may occur later in the story.
Style: It's about average. There isn't much to criticize or highlight. I think there's room to be a bit more satirical with the genre or terse regarding the fiction. As the story continues, it's very possible that the author's style will crystallize to some extent in one direction or another.
Story: It's more than solid. There's a well defined progression system that's shown instead of described and also great lore around the setting. Additionally, the plot is clearly centered around central objectives. However, there are a few loose ends and subplots which occur throughout. I tend to think the number of loose ends will likely grow instead of shrink as the story continues.
Grammar: Perfect. Solid sentence structure diversity. - AdoriosRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I like the characters and the world. I also like how the characters aren't immediately genuises and act in ignorance. Writing an unlikeable protagonist is a real challenge, and it was done skillfully.
The reason I give this 4 instead of 5 stars has to do with the plot pacing. This is a flaw I see creeping into a lot of things here on Royal Road and in some LitRPG works I've discovered on Kindle too. Where the author identifies the break between Book 1 & 2 is not really a logical spot to put the split. It's in the middle of a plot arc. I suppose it was supposed to be a cliffhanger, but it didn't even really present enough information that I think it would have served that function. It just read like a scene interrupted. I suppose that's just a development in the serialized/fully online book world. Without physical books, the dividing line between one book and another is fairly arbitrary. But there wasn't a coherent plot arc to what is being identified as Book 1. It was more a series of episodic stories that were linked together, and then the book apparently "ends" in the middle of the final episode.
