Divided by Destiny

Description
Many ages ago, a mighty Cataclysm spawned by Destiny transfigured the world, changing the laws of reality in accordance with its divine will. This world reborn by Destiny is ruled by the Seraphim—the knights and messengers of the self-same God which spawned the Cataclysm—who use their holy God-given powers to maintain stability and order in the realms of men.
Along an ancient, dusty highway, deep within the wild country which lies between the world's great cities rests the peaceful village of Shiloh, a town so small and so remote that it remains largely unbothered by events in the outside world. In this village lives Amara, a twenty-year-old girl living with her mother in the crumbling hovel that is their ancestral family home. Poverty seems to be her only lot in life, that is until Destiny finally turns its eyes to her. Amara is one of the Destined, a normal person granted superhuman powers by God for an unknown purpose.
But all is not as it seems. Destiny's true will is unknowable, and the Seraphim are not all of one mind. The world teeters on the brink of a new rebirth, with Amara standing at the beating heart of the struggle.

- whimsicalrainbowRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0What a fantastic start to a story! The character dev is beautifully done! I'm truly impressed at the pure skill of character development here, because not once was I kicked out of the story, nor lose any sense of being in Amara’s head. After two chapters, I have a good grasp of the main character's personality and depth. Her fear, anger, and need for revenge are all reasonable, understandable, relatable, and honest. Her understanding of the 'enemy' as he sleeps is a reminder of the depth of her character, when she realizes that revenge isn't the answer, and would only turn her into a person like him. Amara's growth in such a short time is shockingly realistic and deep.
The world-building is just getting started, but already I have a sense of poverty and the ever-present ‘haves and have-nots’ in this village. The religion is clearly going to play a big role, though it’s only beginning to show itself. Their fear of Amara because of ‘black hair like Shaitan’ is a huge hint, and yet that’s all it took to make it clear. Such a simple and elegant way to set the tone. Also, Amara’s awareness of her surroundings speaks to long experience in hiding, and the struggles she faces as a child of a single parent in a poor family in a rural and religious setting. The raven she sees also hints at things to come. The unusual size is a clue that something magical could be coming for her.
This author has the ability to get a lot done in a short time, despite the occasional wordiness (pot calling kettle here).
Well done!
