Description

A wise old grandpa in a ring. An ancient weapon to unleash one's true potential. An unorthodox teacher who emerges from obscurity to provide heroes with enlightenment. In a cultivation world, those who would rise to the top usually have some sort of advantage that propels their rapid ascent. Things that many would offer their souls to obtain.

Ebon Dirge, a devil fallen from the highest realms of the divine, is more than happy to accept their payment. Thwarted by the machinations of the mightiest beings in the universe, he is forced to begin anew in the lands of the weakest mortals. To prepare for the ultimate confrontation, he has hatched a plot to steal the best weapon of all: destiny.

Whether it is a downtrodden youth in the savage wilds, a prince driven to desperation by the royal web tangled around him, or the students and staff of an illustrious magical academy... all should beware what they wish for. They just might get it.

For a price, of course.

ABOUT THE NOVEL

- Cultivation stuff.  The story is a quasi-satirical take on xianxia and xuanhuan staples and tropes.- An irredeemably evil central character.- Multiple POVs.  A lot of them, although the central character remains the story's hub and will have the most chapters by far.

From what I remembered, I really enjoyed the original.
Other than the handfull of gripes.
Ebon's past being revealed to be quite generic was such a shame and was a let down. Him being a generic loser that was graced by a master like so much cultivation stories was just sad and off putting tbh. I just expected more of a satire or parody with just how much Ebon Derge and the stories itself portray to be a anti-generic Xianxia story.
Nontheless, I hope this story takes off and go on trending.

So this is supposed to be a rewrite of a fic the author deleted a while back. I have nothing but fond memories of that fic, and I’m looking forward to reading a version without its admitedly numerous flaws.
Putting up 2 chapters and then leaving for 5 months is all kinds of messed up though... Don’t tease like that.
EDIT 12 months later : HE PUT MORE CHAPTERS ONLINE !
EDIT2 after the end of book 1 : I increased my review from 3.5 to to 4.5 stars, this story is great. The characters are well developped and the world building is slow but steady (the world is huge). I especially like how the thought processes of the characters are well detailed without being tedious to read. The grammar and syntaxe aren’t perfect, but they are more than good enough not to make the story annoying to read.

So far I'm highly impressed. The novel has shown, so far, to have infrequent but impactful philosophies that bring out a refreshing authenticity to an aged and wise character. The author is experienced, and able to balance ignorance and wisdom and point them out in the story. There's very little monotony in the story, fresh concepts save for little bits inspired by other novels - such as passion sublimation art derived from one of Er Gen's works. Starting strong, the initial chapters give a feeling of intrigue based on how the author is willing to jump into the action of a story without excessive explanations for how things work. The author expects the readers to have a baseline understanding, taking their time explaining concepts in a way that eases the reader into the world while keeping interest. This reminds me of Reverand Insanity, for Gu Zhen Ren similarly opened his series. As time progresses and the reader gets to know the world, more topics are introduced to keep things interesting, such as the aforementioned philosophies and past experiences of the lead character - dirge. As things are going, I'm willing to recommend this series to like-minded individuals and any who find themselves reading my thoughts on the series.
With all being said, I'm a little repulsed by the idea that the author has dropped this masterpiece, feeling as if they're lazy or something similar; it's an affront to the hard work and dedication to the craft. It's a selfish take, I concede but justified by my pursuit of creating such a work of art. If Lower Tier Dragon ever resumes his work I would be willing to give 5 stars. For now, I'm only willing to give 4.5.
