Description

A young computer engineer/ mechanic is caught in a war between magic users known as "magi" and human agents of an alien hegemony known as the "Veldar." Kidnapped, tortured, kidnapped again and sent to another reality, William must find a way to protect his fellow human slaves, plan their escape and figure out how magic works in this new world. But first he has to get rid of the killer implant stuck in his head.

Style - Personally I don't enjoy reading first-person novels. There's something about them that I just inherently dislike. However, that being said, as I read through the first ten chapters of this novel I could kind of see the appeal to this writing style. This specific one is bearable for me due to the ease/ finesse with which it is written in. I also give style only 4 stars due to quite a bit of telling instead of showing in the first chapter(of course a lot of the telling was done to world build). This progressively lessons as the chapters unfold so that's good!
Story Score - Oh boy, let me tell you. From the beginning of the first chapter the author has created a living, breathing world. It really seems like this world functions in its own little realm (I'll leave that to your imagination). This was done well through the use of radio and news (nice touch).
Grammar - Not much to say here. It's immaculate. To me it looks like the author goes over their drafts at least once or twice to get ride of those pesky spelling mistakes.
Character - The motivations of William are well defined and his backstory gives a good insight into why he does certain things.

You can see right off the bat that the author put a lot of thought into world-building before starting this story. It makes for an interesting and very thought-through setting that will be part Sci-Fi, part Fantasy.
Story:
As said above, this fiction has great world-building and it reflects also on the story. There are constant foreshadowing events as well as reveals, keeping you craving to know more and read on. Definitely the strong point of the whole fiction!
Grammar:
There were hardly any issues - a missed or unnecessary apostrophe here and there but nothing that would stand out.
Character:
The MC, William, is fleshed out and feels alive. The author managed to let me feel with him right away. It's not yet a character I'd say I really love, but nothing has thrown me off either.
Style:
I have no problem with the first-person narration - this is really executed flawlessly and optimized for the situation. A bit of a showstopper is that there are a few bigger information dumps and also chapters where the story is being narrated by a character (Monologue) which made those parts a bit dry. Still, the action-packed chapters in between make up for it.
All in all, I can recommend the fiction to everyone who likes a mash-up of sci-fi and fantasy but is not too easily scared away by darker content (torture, reverse-rape)
