Descendent’s Awakening

Description
Thorben Deepiron hasn’t left the familiarity of the Langwin Highlands since being adopted. An elf raised as a dwarf was a rarity in the dwarven capital, let alone the rural mountains that he grew up in. A rarity that most dwarves tolerated only because of who his father was. Though not even a council member could shield him from all bigotry.
He should have controlled his rage. He hadn’t. He wished he could. The smug look on Dorn’s face had pushed him over the edge. With the help of his brother Tanrin, he’d put Dorn and his gang in their place, earning exile as a result. Everything is going to change. Thorben and his brother will need to navigate unfamiliar places and find their own path in the wide world of Baherune.
Thorben’s secret burgeoning magical powers threaten the stability of his very soul and he’s seeing words in his vision. As if that wasn’t enough he’s being hunted by a mysterious group of assassins and suffers permanent negative status effects in his quest for answers. Will he be able to survive the changes he is going through? Will he uncover the secrets that threaten him? Can he become the hero that Baherune needs?

This really does what it says, the story of two brothers and a lot of bad luck. It brings you in right from the start, though it’s not unique in itself, it’s extremely well written, hits those heart strings and wants you to read more, there’s some mystery some intriguing characters to follow and most of all, two brothers who are more than blood.
Story.
I really enjoyed this, there’s such depth to the brothers, background story given in little snippets, and supporting characters that enhance it all. It follows them as they fight off local bullies, and get exiled. It’s all about learning who they are, where Thorben came from, in finding more out about what’s going on and it carries us forwards with it, with tales of their past, and hints at their future.
The system for Thorben as he discovers it, is just as interesting, we’re really in for a ride with this, and it doesn’t disappoint us. Though I know for sure he’s wondering what all of it will be, and why. The pov swaps also really enhance this, with Moz *can’t spell it for my life* I struggle with *Tanrin* too, lol
Style.
The author weaves pov like a pro, though I do perhaps think Mia needs to be brought in a little further forward, so we get the idea that it will swap a few times in one chapter. It’s both written well, and each view gives us enough differences into the character that we can tell the differences. It’s over all smooth, and to me doesn’t detract from the story or the other characters. Which is what you want in pov changes, just keep them tight under control is my advice because I know they can get wieldy and you’ll need to keep people into the story, too many can ruin it for a lot of readers, there’s always one character you don’t like and end up skipping. Especially with stories that are releasing like this one twice a week, if we get a character then we don’t like we might not come back.
Grammar.
Some of the attributions aren’t quite right around speech, I pointed out some things I spotted - skeptruneRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5There's a gut instinct you get as a reader when you encounter a story that has potential to be really good, and this triggered it for me.
The grammar is solid, the characters are rich and unique, the setting makes sense, there are glimpses of deeper life concepts, etc. The story is setup well to succeed in the first few chapters.
My only gripe is that a few things felt a bit poorly explained or irrational. However, I think that will likely go away as the author increases in skill.
