You might be surprised to find out that I enjoy the grim dark genre. Of course, this author executes the tropes of the genre extremely well, pulling off insanely an insanely dark and intriguing style of world building that is very hard to do without coming off as cheesy or edgy. I think it's also important to acknowledge that this genre isn't exactly popular, and it's likely to turn off a lot of readers.
The story so far is fairly bland, but it does show early progression and a lot of potential for growth. The main character is quite dull yet interesting. The author has yet to elaborate on his backstory, and there is a lot of potential exposition hidden this story.
The MC is a slave, or rather, former slave. It hasn't been explained how he came into slavery, nor the personalities of his master, slave watcher, or fellow slaves. Is unknown whether or not he has a family, really any friends or connections whatsoever. Honestly, the fact that he has a blank slate and none of these things have come up in his thoughts is extremely strange and sometimes ruins immersion.
No complaints with the grammar, very few grammatical mistakes, although there is some repetition in terms of syntax.
I think the character score is the weakest part of the story, and I can tell the author struggles with this aspect. Characters seem very one dimensional and lacking in "character". I will cut the author some slack because this is early on in the novel and this could easily change later on.
I definitely recommend this read if you want something that's dark, chilling, and horrifying. This is not for the light hearted; please do not read if you have a weak stomach or strong morals. That said, at least read the first chapter before making any deliberations.
