Macy Adams is...unusual. Not in the normal neurospicy way. No, she likes something that is seen as very odd for 2056: The ocean. With most of the life in the ocean being dead and the rest being hiding Antithesis hives, it is firstly not a safe place and even more so? It has nothing of value for most people. Macy is bent on changing that, even if she doesn't have the power to. So, when she initializes as a Samurai during one of her dives, she sets out to clean up the seas and maybe, just maybe, bring back everything that was taken from it. Took me a bit to get my sea legs (SHARK PUN) but I think that's just because Full disclosure I haven't actually read SCS. It doesn't have a cool shark girl and this does. The humor works and the pacing is snappy and there is a cool shark girl. Still early in my read but it's shaping up really well. Shark girl.

Truly one of the best depictions of the ocean seen in Stray Cat Struts, on par with the flotilla of New Houston from Fata Morgana. A unique understanding from someone obsessed with the ocean, someone who has done so much research into ocean life and ecosystems, you can feel their desire to remake the ocean.
After all, the xenos killed everything in it. And you can feel that hatred, the emotion the MC, Macey has towards the destruction of her favorite place, and its new form of hatred towards the surface.
Not to mention the most unique smooth skinned protagonist, (Fight me, Sam) her incredibly sound and biologically facinating forms, and the makings of a true halassophobic nightmare on par with Subnautica.
I have had the honor of speaking with Shadowm4ge, the author, and I know she has some incredible plans, actually laid out arcs, and the knowledge to back it up. She is one of the authors that inspired me to write, and this story directly affected a character's own fear of the ocean because of the glimps of what the ocean could hold. In fact, they have indirectly affected my plot so much more than I am willing to say, so please give this a read.

A great start on a SCS fanfic, set in Seattle. Or, I guess, mostly the ocean off the coast of seattle. Well-written though perhaps a bit fastpaced. If I'm not mistaken it took Cat probably 3+ books to get the same amount of points. Not necessarily a criticism at all, I really enjoyed the story so far! Bonus point for Blåhaj hug-fren making an appearance! <3
Really glad to see a Vanguard who doesn't shy away from going all out with cool tech to modify and augment their body and mind! Also, really cool seeing underwater specialists in action.
