Dead Man's Drop [Weird Noir Fantasy-Mystery]

Description
They say you have to be crazy to live in this city. Lucky for me I am already dead, just another working stiff seeking to make a living, or unliving, as the case may be.
A missing fiancé. A stolen jewellery box. Two simple seeming cases. Or so thought Marcus Stone. But in the impossible city of Spire, trapped in its own mist shrouded fragment of reality, with its gangsters and mobster, crooked cops and corrupt politicians, swinging nightclubs and seedy pool halls, dwarves and elves, trolls and ogres, nothing is ever easy. And by the end of it all, Marcus Stone will be dead.
**********
Dead Man's Drop is a weird noir fantasy novel. The story has now reached its conclusion, but it will continue. I am currently doing Writathon, but once that is done I will start working on Volume 2.

- Classy@SwordpointRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall: I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this story and I'm thrilled to learn there will be more to come from this author in this setting. I recommend this story for anyone who's looking for unique world-building and a flavourful mystery mixed in with their fantasy.
Story: I am a fan of mysteries - apart from fantasy, it's the genre I read most often in my personal time. A fantasy-mystery is a rare bird, and this one did not disappoint. The twists and turns the story takes are interesting, and with the addition of familiar yet upended fantastical races, and mystical beings, and some wonderful world-building, this story is exactly what I wish there were more of. Right from the get-go with the concept of the Spire and the Dead Man's Drop, I was sold. I can't wait to see what's next.
Style: This story is told in the first person and couldn't/shouldn't have been told any other way. Right from the beginning, that 'noir' flavour pops off the page. As I was reading, I may as well have been sitting in a smoky lounge listening as the narrator spoke right to me - straight out of one of those old black and white movies. The author did an absolutely brilliant job with the voice.
Characters: The main character, Marcus Stone, is likable and noble, and I found myself easily rooting for him at every turn. More than the main character, it would be be remiss of me not to shout out the compelling assortment of side characters. I won't go into detail for risk of spoilers, but you're in for a treat as far as the colourful cast in this story goes.
Grammar: Apart from a few typos here and there, nothing at all major stood out and certainly nothing that impacted my enjoyment. The author has a clean, crisp handle on the language.
