Description
This is a high fantasy story with horror elements, featuring the map-maker and half-elf Aspen, and his friend Sekafi, a hyena-like humanoid as they are sent on a mission to map out unknown territory and encounter a monster. Soon they're involved in something larger and more dangerous than they ever wanted. What happens next, you'll find out when you read.
This is the first story I'm publishing here on RoyalRoad. I wanted to try this site out since it's more geared towards fantasy. I've been at Wattpad for about 2 years under the same name, but since I'm not writing romance I haven't gotten much steam there. This is my latest story, and it's also published on Wattpad in the book called Short Stories. I wanted to start with something new and unfinished here.
I'll try and update at least once every other week, sometimes more often.

- CivilizationRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is such a beautifully straightforward tale, the author has a vision and knows how to make the plot work towards it with driven purpose without detracting from anything. When reading this story I get strong D&D vibes out of not just the plot but the characters and the setting. I can see the DM sitting down describing the location and the quest with the two main characters being the players that are able to not go off the rails. The two main characters is where the author shines the most, and not being a fan of romance I love that they are able to be believably strong platonic friends without it needing to become more. A reader can see that they have a history without needing to be told about it all the time. Thinking about a D&D game it works, like two players who made characters that knew each other beforehand but did not flesh it out but have a dynamic ready to go. Going back to the author's vision, that is something they also do well, all the information that is given is there for the sole purpose of advancing the story line. They do it so well to an almost frustrating degree, there is no lore dumps or a lot of information given, which does good for getting along with the story but if you are into learning about worlds well then you and I are waiting.
