Crown – [Epic Progression Fantasy]
Community Rating
Description
The forgotten Ember will spark once more, setting ablaze the very fabric of the universe until it consumes all, leaving naught but ash in its wake.
The shackles she was born into have given Ruby a craving for freedom that cannot be denied. The scars on her soul have lit a fire in her that pushes her harder than most, and as the universe throws her from one world to the next, she will wield that flame to protect her dreams and her people, and obliterate those who would seek to cage her once again.
As she navigates a life subject to the fickle whim of Fate, her simple wish for freedom will take her and her friends to heights beyond imagination, and alter the course of reality in ways no one could have predicted.
What to expect:
– Weak to Strong Epic Progression Fantasy set in an expansive universe
– Story begins on Earth, but most of it will take place on different planets with more classic fantasy elements (ie. dungeons, dragons, fantasy races)
– Pyromaniac/pure fire-wielding berserker MC
– Found Family collected throughout MC's journey
– Cultivation/LitRPG/Spell Casting blend of a power system
– Naive and Kind MC who will mature with time
I am open to constructive criticism and am always looking to improve my writing. If you have any input regarding my writing or the plot of the story itself, please don't hesitate to leave me a comment or review. Happy reading :)

- trichoplaxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0At first I thought I was reading a tournament style martial arts story, but i was sorely mistaken. The plot takes an unexpected turn that gives its uniqueness to this story.
this is the type of book you read when looking for vivid battle description, natural dialogue and unique character personalities. Everyone new person who comes into the page feels alive, more than just words on your screen. Each chapter is written in a way that allows you to almost see and hear what is happening. Thanks to their polished writing style, the author provides an immersive experience into their world.
What especially pleased me about this story is that the MC does not pick the paths that are presented before her but instead decided to carve her own. This opens up so many possibilities for the plot and keeps the reader on their toes.
What excites me the most is eventually seeing how the author describes higher level battles, what variables will come into play and how they will be resolved. I know that with this author, from what I’ve seen, I will be blown away.
This story is amazing and I’m excited to see where it goes. If you like a story with amazing fights, compelling plot and I what i believe to be a “recruit allies” type of story progression (which we don’t see a lot of in novels) you won’t be disappointed by The Crown - AdvocateOfDoorsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Crown is a fantastic story, starting off with a gritty urban tone that almost reminds me of a crime thriller or something cyberpunk inspired, but has the scope of lore to expand out to an epic narrative scale.
Every scene is expertly crafted. The prose shines. It is concise and efficient, and it does exactly what it needs to without any extra frills to detract from the pace. This makes the action scenes really leap off the page, and every character moment feels deep and impactful. I like the balance of elements. The action feels brutal, but there is also space for tense dialogue and effective character building.
Ruby is an exciting protagonist. She is smart, capable, and relatable. All the things we love to see. With that said, she definitely escapes the cookie cutter protagonist syndrome by having a drive and worldview that feels very real, and you can see playing out with how she interacts with the world.
I like the integration of cultivation themes with the world and characters, being taken to a very utilitarian and brutal place in a society that values strength over all else.
Probably my favourite part is the gang building elements. I like that sense of power progression that goes beyond just the protagonists physical abilities. Crown also gives us side characters who all feel distinct, and who we root for as a part of Ruby's organisation as it grows from an idea into a force to be reckoned with. I definitely had a sense of danger throughout, as though Ruby might be biting off more than she could chew and any moment someone bigger and badder was going to show up and tear apart everything she'd built. Perhaps that's going to happen If I read on. Nail-biting. It really made me leap for that next chapter button because I'm constantly on the edge of my seat with this fic.
I like the style, the characters, the story so far, and I have no complaints about the grammar. This is very professionally put together and I can't wait to see where it goes. - Eli'sPencilRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you are looking for a classical fantasy story that isn't litRPG or your typical isekai, you have come to the right place!
Grammar: As far as I can tell, there are zero issues with the grammar so far! I sort of have an automatic filter in my head that fixes any minor errors for me, so it's hard for me to nitpick and find tiny grammatical errors. However, I tried my best to find just one mistake and I could not. It's genuine perfection.
Style: It's somewhat of a standard writing style that one would expect; however, there is something about it that sort of reads like poetry to me. I'm not sure how to describe it, but the prose has this sort of flow like a gentle breeze or soft waves as I read it. What do I mean by that? I guess I mean it just flows nicely. You'll see when you read. Also, the author does a fantastic job of painting a picture for you as the reader. It's very easy for this story to play like a movie or anime in my head.
Story: So far, things are shaping up great. It's not a litRPG, so there is actual substance here and I love it. I don't want to spoil anything, but I can tell the author has plans and likely outlines the story. The pacing is well-rounded as well.
Characters: I am not saying the characters are weak, far from it, they're just pretty standard early on. However, this is not a critique at all. Characters take time to grow on you and I gotta say the MC is doing it for me. The thing that turns me off about a lot of web novels is that the main character never feels human. I am happy to report that this is not the case here. The MC feels like a real person, talks like a real person, and makes realistic decisions. It's hard to give a five-star in character so early unless they really wow me, but so far, I think the author is doing a pretty good job thus far. - High_Overlord_DRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far so good. great start to a book I'll be adding to my fallow list. Seems like a spin on a AU cultivation novel. So far the only way to get stronger is to get your ass kicked. Violence may not always be the answer but it Always is AN answer.
- Mir_HeleverRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Prepare to be thrust into the heart of an epic arena fight as the novel kicks off with a bang!
Then, an epic fight with the scoundrel of a manager and his bodyguards!
Then, then, then… wait. I think that’s enough to give you an idea. Yes, the novel is filled with so much action that even comics would envy it.
But hold on, I know what you’re thinking. Isn’t that too much, ehm… action?
You’re wrong! Not by thinking there’s much action but by thinking there’s too much of it. I’ll tell you, the descriptiveness of fights in this novel is the best I have seen on RR so far. It’s not fighting just for the sake of commencing a battle. You can feel every move, every counter, every uppercut with your very bones.
The main character, Ruby, is ambitious and charismatic. At the start, she’s just strong, but as the story progresses, she becomes stronger and able to stand up to the cruelties of the world. However, she doesn’t just focus on personal growth but also supplements her comrades and underlings. Together, they become stronger, and as a result, their group strength rivals the cities’ greatest gangs.
Ugh, hold on a sec. A gang?
Yes! A gang! This turn of events was unexpected, right? Have you ever seen a novel with a ‘gang development’? Me neither.
But I gotta tell you, this was a lucky encounter for me. - randompowerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've read a few chapters so far, but really enjoying the story so far. I'm usually more of a LitRPG fan, so this is something outside of what I normally read. I like the concept of Flux -- interested in seeing where that goes.
The writing style is solid, and there are few to no grammar mistakes. Nice work! Hoping to see some LitRPG elements - AKArmbrustRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story is quite interesting and definitely starts off with a bang.
Stylistically, I'll note that this is one of the first isekais I've read on Royalroad that actually starts from Ch1 in our world. Just something to note. Beyond that, starting in the middle of things is an excellent stylistic choice that serves the story well. I'll also give it props for some urban fantasy vibes, taking place in the far off land of Toronto, Canada.
In terms of Story, I was surprised that the other world hadn't been established after several chapters. But that's not inherently bad - it gives everything a bit of a slow burn feel to it. Otherwise, and perhaps despite that, the plot starts off running and doesn't stop.
Grammatically there are very few problems I can find. Maybe an extra comma or two could be placed somewhere. No complaints there.
Character-wise, I would say maybe the characters could afford to have a bit more oompf to them, outside of our protagonist. They are all definitely consistent so far, though, if that makes sense. Anyone looking for a weak-to-strong protagonist as advertised should be in for a treat.
In closing, I'm definitely going to follow up and see where the story leads, for sure. - AspirantLuminaryRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5From the very beginning, it is clear this story will take you on an adventure. Underground fights, street politics, and moments of contemplation weave together nearly seamlessly. I'm excited to see what's next!
Style: There's an air of realness to the prose which perfectly matches the harsh world. Scenes are very easy to visualize and the action is even clearer. That vibrancy can be felt in every chapter so far.
Story: So many possibilities! A course of action is given early on, but I suspect there will be several major deviations before it can be accomplished. I'm 100% on board even though I have no idea what they will be. The pacing is solid as well; not a word has been wasted.
Grammar: Very occasional punctuation mistakes or typos, practically perfect.
Characters: All the characters, major or minor, are authentic and memorable. Depth and arcs obviously take time to develop, however, the early signs are abundant. There was only one scene where a character's actions seemed a bit out of place. It's entirely possible that those actions will make sense in retrospect, so take that with a grain of salt.
To put it succinctly, this is absolutely a story worth checking out. I'm looking forward to reading more! - BaqknsRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5If you are looking for a badass female lead in an urban fantasy background, this is it!
Grammar: Spotless to be true! Honestly, except for that one mistake, I don't think I have anything to complain about. Good grammar elevates reading experience and 'Crown' achieves it right off the bat!
Style: I loved how your writing floats around. It has a unique flavour to it which was best flaunted in chapter 4.
World building: The story begins on a not-so-developed streets of Toronto and moved to the urban area which I loved it. The story establishes itself early that though on earth (ch 4) it has something more to provide than just arena fights.
Characters: Ruby is almost a realistic character to me. I like how she is clever but sometimes naive and indecisive. She has a ride or die kind of attitude and honestly who cares if things work out for her.
Craw made my skin crawl. Though he is a slimy and cruel, he has another side too. His description was on point what I would consider a Don to be like.
Ren is a goody-two-shoes who also has somewhat a ride or die attitude or else he and Ruby couldn't have interacted better!
Story: Not LitRPG but a pure dominant fantasy story which starts with a Banger! - Theora WattersRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I don't think I've ever read a progression fantasy story before this, though the concept is familiar. As someone who has grown up watching anime, it's hard not to draw parallels to various shounen series. However, the aspect of gradual power improvement is more of the focus--for Crown, the scale is certainly dialed up, even from the very beginning.
This is not a bad thing, of course. This story in particular I feel embodies the aspect of "Epic Progression Fantasy" very well.
From the beginning, the emphasis on detailed fight scenes and explanations of power and ability are front and center. While there is a lot of information and characters, it is filtered to us in an efficient way, while being interwoven into the prose and flow of the story itself. I would point to many of the characters having very strong convictions without fully understanding the reasoning as an issue, but this is likely intentional to draw out the backstories and connections of the characters. The emphasis on action and mechanical detail seems to be the point and I feel that the backstories of the characters is something that will eventually become known as important plot elements.
I think the actual story moves along fairly well, despite the emphasis on describing the action and mechanics in depth. There is a nice back and forth of prose and exposition to balance the nitty-gritty details, overall. Personally, the attention to detail is a bit deep for me, but I'm sure that those who enjoy the style of the genre will very much enjoy it. The actual content of the story is interesting, as there are various story beats happening (or being revealed) in tandem, which I think is handled quite well. Information is being given without the author tipping their hand too much, which makes for plenty of momentum to keep reading.
Grammatically, I am rather impressed. There are very few issues, even minute errors, that I noticed. The prose flows well, the dialogue is well-done, and the writing itself is quite
