- Winter1231505Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Having not read the previous version of the story, I wanted to leave this review now since I've gone through what seems to be all current revised chapters.
In short, it is quite good.
The writting and character dialogue really gives the feel of a person who has gained experience through time and has more or less hit their stride. It is without much flowery language, a very entertaining read. The small changes within the story itself works well to make it stand out and have the reader keep reading through these segments that everyone supposedly has already gone through. The additions of extra interactions between the Thieves and their targets are also more than welcome. It unironically makes all of the segments in the metaverse far more deserved and well-rounded in its wish-fullfilment aspect of "getting back at the rotten adults". While at the same time, not going too overboard in its more fantastical elements. Alongside that, the earlier inclusions of late-game characters and storylines are more than welcome, giving characters like Haru a chance to shine is never a negative.
Character writing especially is superb, every single interaction is great, especially the characterization of the Main Character himself who often acts as a blank slate to insert the writers witty comebacks to all of the original stories missgivings and disempowering moments. Very little time is dedicated to making Akira feel like some uber badass smart guy macho dude bro who gets all the chicks and is super cool, and instead focuses on how these relations he builds would naturally play out and interact with one another over time, which I very much like.
I must admit the "love at first sight" trope with Akira and Makoto rubbed me the wrong way at first, as I very much do not like the "I have set eyes on this woman she is the most prettiest and smartest and gorgeous being on the planet I am in love" approach to romance in storytelling.
