Description
Build or die. There is no between.
Jay Reis never fought for his dreams, nor did he so much as try. But after dying and waking up on a game-like island, he can no longer afford to waste time. Not in this savage, untamed land. Here, all that can save him is whatever can be crafted by his own two hands.
This second chance will not come easily, however. Danger lurks in the dark, and the sun has already set…
What to expect:
- Slow-burn, craft-based progression.
- Exploration, adventure, and lots and lots of action.
- No romance/harem.
- Mind-bending dungeons, sometimes.
- New Chapters every M-F, ~4:00PM EST. Will release bonus chapters early to help get the ball rolling.
- Chapter length: 2.5-3.2k words. Sometimes over, never under. Interludes come out as bonus content outside this schedule.
First time writing LitRPG, so go easy on me, friendos.

Have you ever wanted to combine crafting, game lit, and a high-speed action story? We'll have I got a a story for you. Crafted in Chaos is all of those things, but with terrifying monsters, and a sanity mechanic that makes it all that much more brutal. I've loved it so far, and you might too!
Style: 5 stars
Every time I get to a major fight sequence, I am reminded of something; Mneue is first and foremost a horror author. Your mileage might vary of course, but I consider this a feature, not a bug.
Grammer: 5 stars
Perfection. This author's prose is cleaner than my own, so other than the very rare typo, I have nothing to complain about.
Story: 5 stars
It can be hard to make stories about crafting and dungeon cores interesting, but the author does a good job here. If anything, he has made the story too exciting. Sometimes I find myself hoping for a breather, just because of how fast the pace can get, but that isn't something to criticize him on.
Character: 4.5 stars
The characters in this story are great. In my mind, the only problem with them, is that they are sometimes forced to do things by all the ongoing action. That's not to say that the choices that the characters make are inorganic.. just that sometimes there's really only one choice to be made, and it can flatten the MC. - FarmeriukasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0In opinion yes, but at the same time no. Yes in the sense he is (probably) packing and is not afraid to use it to his full advantage. No in the sense that he is kinda a shy boi, but that can be fixed in time. So in conclusion, he is breedable, but you gotta work on him a little, or let him cook.
But in all seriousness, this novel is a banger, i highly recommend that you read it. I have read the entire first volume and i can say i wasn't disappointed. ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ - goolicRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is well written, the character feels somewhat real and interesting. A good focus on the psicology of isekai transitions that lasts only for the first 8 to 10 chapters.
I'm just looking for something more focused on relationships/friendships and this looks like it's going to be solo all the way.
Perhaps I will come back someday and re read it. - nategatorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Checked this one out as I really enjoyed the author's previous work. Mechanically, style and grammar are top notch.
Story setup is interesting and a nice departure from the normal litrpg or cultivation setups. Don't get me wrong--I follow tons of those as well--but survival games are super fun as well. I would say the book has notes of Minecraft, ark, vanheim with a combination of stats, crafting, etc.
It's early days but I imagine characterization and plot will turn out great based on the author's previous highs. I encourage everyone to check this one out as it may be the start of something special. - Grim ThoughtsRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5It’s early days yet for this novel, but so far I like what I’m seeing. I’m naturally biased in favor of crafting stories, and this one scratches my itch quite well. The story doesn’t deviate too far from tropes, including with the MC, but the author does a competent job in actually telling the tale which is what I’m more concerned about. A minor gripe I have is with the System being very prominent, but that’s more a personal preference as I much prefer stories with less integrated systems, if they have them at all (can ruin immersion for me). Overall, not bad. Hope this story can keep up the pace it’s set
- HopscotchRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is some top tier, future champion of the crafting genre writing. I am so unexpectesly hooked, with an MC hanging on by their fingernails every day. Give it a shot and see for yourself.
Char dev, progression, grit, and dealing with being a pawn to others, it all comes together in a scenario that draws you in.
For me, background in playing games with crafting mechanics like Valheim was helpful as context, but Im sure to some it'll seem like arbitrary rules. This actually works in favour of the sheer weirdness if the setting I think. Love the 'show, don't tell' rules being followed.
Im ending the review here so I can go read the latest chapters. 'Nuff said. - NoissarRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This one is not for me.
You can be negative if you want but that is lame stuff when you can just be honest.
The writing is perfectly fine as far as I am concerned, no issues that come across as a negative other than some people having to look up a word or skip over them entirely hoping to get the meaning from context later on. Though the Flashback content could be given as a negative; if I was to claim it as such it would be because it goes on for too long; too bulky/descriptive for the purposes of giving context.
Really most things appear to be really well done. I just personally do not like the character. It is the innate core of the character the things you would have to assume to allow the character to reach that point in that way with the information you are given.
I also dislike the style of escalation; some is explained other points are not.
I just honestly think you need to hit chapter 8 minimum to even claim a basic level on fair opinion. I think it does far better at that point, even if it is not a story I personally will enjoy. - UnDeadPuffRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Have you played a survival game? If you have then you will recognize a lot of this as the same experience one would have in Ark, just in a written format and with (so far) no smoothbrains banding together to camp or block spawn areas in online.
Good quality prose and dialogue that succeeds in presenting realistic characters and interactions.
Taking off one star because I have a strong dislike for LitRPG that presents health/stamina and needs as exact values. For me this only serves to pull me out of the story and ruin my immersion. - Numbus26Royal Road★★★★ 3.5A pretty good story overall, damaged slightly by odd narrative choices. People can't work together without punishment, to the point that even sharing information counts(except rare exceptions), but they can build elaborate bases next to each other without any interference? Handled differently, this would feel like clever people gaming the system. Instead, it just feels like the 'rules' contradict themselves.
The story's main focus is crafting during a 'day' phase to fight during the night, like any number of survival games you've played. The issue is that the narrative hops between framing each night as an extended combat where the main character often barely scrapes out a win, then skips several days with little mention of the nights in between, despite framing the story around the slow escalation of threats.
Then there's some… odd choices that are presumably made for comedy, but end up leaving me feeling a bit uncomfortable. There's a 'sanity' mechanic that causes people to act erratically if it gets low, and the way it expresses itself is by turning a person into a caricature of themselves—the main character gets obsessed with framing everything in gaming terminology, a former policewoman… sees everybody around her as her abusive ex, and another character… turns into a stereotypical 'terrorist' circa 2003. It's bad, basically, and it knocks half a star from my review.
Lastly, there's my personal bugbear. The main character decides that he has to choose an adaptable weapon, even though he's been doing pretty well with his current 'build'. And instead of any other weapon, it's swords again. Despite the fact that swords are only really any good for fighting people, and mostly unarmored people at that. It's rather unimaginative.
Despite these complaints, the story is constructed very well stylistically and grammatically. I would heartily recommend it if you're into crafting-type litrpgs, but be wary of the pitfalls it suffers. - KenrioRoyal Road★★★ 2.5The moment the mc started having forced interaction with other characters the story lost me. mc starting acting like a dumb character to be at the same level as the dumb side characters too. Really lame interactions that made me questions many time why I wasted so much time read in this fic until now
