Covetous Soul - A Deckbuilding Story
Self-Published
Community Rating
Description
Daniel liked to explore caves in his spare time. They were nothing grand, truly little more than small things that littered his parent's property, but this one was different. It stretched longer than any he'd explored before, and when he reached its end he found a golden card laying alongside a corpse. Against his better judgement he picked it up and was thrust into a world where survival is not guaranteed, and cards are everything.

- Gary123Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Covetous soul deserves praise for it's excellent magic system and world. The main character is competent, but not at the expense of the other characters. He shares the world with other older, smarter, and more cautious people. In other words, very real people. While the main character gets quite powerful very quickly, it doesn't feel forced. The nature of deck-building in this world necessitates a good foundation to go far.
The way that mind altering abilities and effects are written is superb. The best I've ever seen it done. It's scary. - Michael ParkerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Quite a unique take with the power system. Cards provide powers which can create unique power sets that can be tailored to multiple builds by characters in the story, however the ways that they interact give so much depth and always leave you guessing what you will see next. Our main character gets teleported to another world which history and lore is slowly revealed to us throughout the story without feeling force-fed.
One of my favorite stories on Royal Road due to the fact that I have no clue where the plot is going next, which is nice compared to most of the cookie cutter books on the site. Props to the author, I can only guess what where this story will go in the future, but I am in for the long-haul. 5 star story, and I am a bit surprised that this story is not getting more traction.
Read it, you will not be disappointed, except the wait for the next chapter!
Excited to see what comes next!

The grammer and punctuation are top quality for royalroad and i've really been enjoying the story so far. It's definitely one of the better deckbuilding stories on here and it deserves more attention. Plus the main character's "gimmick" is super interesting and not one i've seen explored too much on here. If you have the time i'd definitely reccomend giving it a look!
