- efiLyMkcuFRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As stated above, it's rare now to see an Elden Ring fanfiction, much less a self insert one.
Throughout this entire story i have yet to find a glaring fault. That should be consideration enough for any viewer, should you enjoy elden ring in the slightest. Should you enjoy self insert fanfiction in the slightest, should you enjoy reading in the slightest. I recommend you give it a try.
It's gritty, and so far most of the book has been spent crawling on the ground, I can't wait until the stone-rolling-down-the-hill that is his level up system comes into fruition. - WaltardRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The action is awesome, the grim feeling of the world well translated. I love it.
As for what I think you can do better: Consider to explain and directly tell the reader less. Omit some details.
When the protagonist spends half a chapter convincing some person of something, there is no need to have another half a chapter for that person to convince someone else. That was a bit repetitive at times.
Also I know you want to share every plot and secret, but leave some for the reader to find on his own. The red haired misbegotten having a monologue and explaining every detail and how exactly they fucked up with the traitor doesnt feel immersive. - BunnyKnightRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The quality of the writing and the expansion to world has been really enjoyable to read. The first couple of chapters were kind of slow, however, I was completely hooked throughout the Morne arc. The development of the MC's strength is very gradual which is a great change of pace. I can't wait for more.
- HmmmmmmmmRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It’s still early, but so far I’m absolutely loving everything in this book!!
The protagonist being your average Joe (literally John EldenRing lmao) is a great decision in my opinion, as it helps ground the story. Even though Elden Ring is set in a fantastical world of huge scale, with beings of immense strength, the combat perfectly reflects that you are not supposed to be this awesome force that sweeps everything under the rug, instead you are just some dude who tries his best to figure out his place in this world, and tries( and mostly fails) to set things right, whatever ending you choose.
I think this vibe is captured perfectly in the initial chapters. While the world is quite different from the game, as it is more alive than the semi desolate and empty place we see in game, this sense of powerlessness is still very real.
While there are some minor grammar mistakes, I think the plot, action scenes, and most importantly for me attention to the original work’s atmosphere and lore more than make up for it!
I whole-heartedly recommend this to anyone who played Elden Ring, or any other game in the Souls series, you’ll have a blast! - Lurker LuuuurkRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Pretty good stuff for a beginning. Wish there was more fighting and less monologuing, but apparently "modern" character inserts into medieval settings have to obnoxious and backwards as possible. Which is a shame. Apparently self respect is a sin that Jhon abhors.
Not that the MC is religious of course. That's against the RR checklist authors apparently have for their readers. Lol. - SnortleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Damn good story, interesting mc, lots of lore, good plot, interesting conflict and deep moral decisions, damn good story.

Just quality story telling.
The MC actually having to work hard for his power makes this simply the best.
Idk why I have to write 50 words as the minimum review word coumt but it's kinda annoying. - StrangestQuarkRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is undoubtedly the best Elden Ring fanfic I've ever read. The story seems to be heading somewhere, the MC is believable in his competency and the writing is easily on-par with many published books I've read. If I had to give one critique it would be the slow pacing in the first 10 chapters. Regardless, if you like the source material I can only recommend reading it.
- EnigmaniacRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I have loved this novel, was curious how someone would put a character in a game which I thought was pretty cut and dry. But by expanding the map massively and going into the time before the game starts, when we are really getting what would be lore we get to experience things which really flush our the game for me and make for a great story. Now all of the "history" might not be true, but it feels true to me and I have loved everything I have read so far. Really bummed author put this on hiatus because I thought he had something! Come Back author we need you!!!!
- Greg 'The Of All Time'Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5Exceptionally competent work deserving of all the praise it gets.
Its clear to anyone familiar with elden ring that the author has a excellent grasp of it and its (admittedly esoteric and sometimes confusing) lore. Most anything that diverges from the lore in any significant way seems to have been done while remaining as true to the world as possible.
The story itself takes a few chapters to get into the meat of it, but man is it worth it. I was completely hooked after the first few chapters, especially as someone who enjoyed elden ring thoroughly. it really scratches that itch of having wanted to expand more on the smaller things, events and things less significant than the shattering, but still very interesting.
The pacing is slower than a lot of other books, which suits me just fine. Not to say its a slog or anything, things happen with relative quickness, however the slower pace lends itself well to exploring the intricate and compelling world of elden ring without missing any details.
The MC is interesting to read about. He has very important goals, and its obvious hes driven to complete them. His goals are things that are very logical to just about anyone, which makes his willingness to do almost whatever it takes to achieve them very understandable.
The side characters are done excellently, and I especially appreciate how the chapters representing them are written. They have understandable goals and motivations, as well as hopes and fears, they are not simply static sounding boards for the Mc to bring along.
The only real thing I can complain about is the grammar. there are a small number of weird sentence flow and bad grammar. Now that isn't to say it is unreadable, its very well written, there are just a few areas the sentence structure could use some work. Its noticeable but barley a thought.
I very much recommend reading this if you have played elden ring and are a fan, you cant really go wrong with this one. Most definitely one of the best fanfics I've r
