Cold Gates: A Solo Leveling fanfic

In another universe from before the one of the main storyline, instead of five individuals surviving the assault of Kamish the Dragon, six did.  This greatly altered the way the events of that world occurred, as the extra person, Gabriel Nolan, instead of staying in the US or seeking fame or fortune, set off for Antarctica, a continent where no Hunters, or even society existed.  While he justified it to others as seeking a new source of monster materials from the hundreds of dungeon breaks that had occurred there, in truth it was a way for those whose lives had been ruined by the appearance of the gates to build a new society for themselves.

A society of mainly Hunters would inevitably develop differently than those of non-hunters, and the societies that now existed based on them.  While Gabriel wouldn't let it decay into a place where only strength mattered and might made right, he could allow the laws to reflect the needs of the people, and allow technology to do the same.  This means that they will take technology in a different direction than the main timeline, developing means to increase a Hunter's power, a new treatment for the Eternal Sleep, and weapons and magical devices capable of being used by non-awakened.
