What readers say about Còir Buaidh

  • What an absolute hidden gem. Such an amazing story. I have read hundreds of HP AU stories and I have to say that this is the best one I have ever seen! World depicting and characterization is so strong. The grammar is on point and story has such a nice flow…

  • It just feels real. A vast magical world! (in a geographic and political sense) The MC got his own story and is not a new sidekick or influencer to Harry Potter!!! I love the details. So all in all you will have a good time with this fanfic! Have a nice day…

What an absolute hidden gem. Such an amazing story. I have read hundreds of HP AU stories and I have to say that this is the best one I have ever seen! World depicting and characterization is so strong. The grammar is on point and story has such a nice flow, where both protagonist and other characters have a depth to them that really fleshes out the story! Thank you so much for writing this, just signed on Patreon to help keep this project going!

This fleshes out the wizarding world in ways I've never read before. It scratches every itch of more society, more spells, more wands, more everything. The only negative of this book is that we have all found it before it is finished. Someone send me a message in a year or two so that I can come back and reread this gem in one go like it deserves.

Okay so here it goes, the story is miles better than the original work which inspired this work of art. Sometimes it makes me wonder, why did the author not change a little about the setting and make it a fully original work? The author has class!
The writing is very good, and the worldbuilding is miles above the books! Miles! On the story side of things, it sometimes relies too much on isekai/foreknowledge. It interrupts the more character-driven parts of the story, which are awesome already.
About the style, the only thing where improvements could be made is how to introduce dialogs, to make some settings more dynamic (less narration). That's the main thing where the original HP really outclasses this fanfic. Then again, as an original work it could be published as is! It seems it went through some proofreading already, because the text feels really smooth to read.
One of the high points is that this is a character driven story. the mc and several other character are fleshed out, and have their own agendas. Some alternative POV's could be used to fully exploit how awesome some of the scenes are, to add gravitas, fun, and sheer awesomeness! So its good and I want more, lol.
    No issues with grammar.
In summary, you don't need to like the original HP. This is better. More grown up, consistent, and a lot of care has been given in building a world and character sthat feel real.

I’m (embarrassingly) currently going through a HP fan fiction phase, and as such, you can imagine me in mental hazmat waders, hip deep, drowning through all the absolute garbage such results the searches wash ashore.
Most of these are just self-insert power daydreams about someone becoming bffs with Harry + the gang, making Dumbledore adore the MC because they are suuuuuper smart and powerful, and using meta knowledge to save the day and get bitches. In some surprising cases, being the bitches that get gotten.
Frustratingly, almost all of them have the same plot, “I’ll be the hero to modernize the wizarding world because muggles are right!” Which makes zero sense to me because the anachronistic setting is what gives the whole universe its charm. If you want wizards with tech, there’s Star Wars.
Dont get me wrong— those stories, too, have their place. Who am I to tell anyone they can’t publish their egotistic drivel? No one. I’m no one, and you do you, booger bear. And I’m not ever someone to yuck a yum, and if that is what tickles your pickle, you do you.
I’m just saying. Mostly, my pickle remains untickled and I’ll tell you why.
I feel that many fan fiction authors make their biggest mistakes in forgetting the original universe is a whole ass universe and they never wander or stray from the source material. They forget that, if readers wanted to read the original story with all the original plot lines and beats, well… that defeats the purpose of fan fiction, yeah? Anyone can give their $ to ol’ JK at any time. Anyone with a free afternoon and enough imagination can daydream about being the Best Lil Mary Sue in any story, ever, and they don’t need to partake in reading someone else’s daydream to do so.
    THAT SAID.
This one is different. It is intelligent, witty, and is told from a POV I relate to. It’s political intrigue. It’s a fight against ideological colonialism. It’s living with trauma. It is the trolley problem, but everyone on the tracks is kinda a POS who is

Not too crazy on how the story starts with the polotical liberal agenda and I am guessing its the co-author that its coming from becasue I have not seen it in his other works.  This is the first CYOA I have read from this author and its looking good so far.
The story started out great (short of the tree hugger agenda) and I love how its getting dark.  Seems to be the sterotypical early 20th century church orphanage that gets really dark and magical lol.  I look forward to more chapters.
USS: This is a good site and it would be even more incredible if it had a mobile app but sadly it doesnt.  Have you ever thought about posting on Webnovel?

I picked up this story as it appeared to be in a style that was unique in its own way for a HP fanfic and has followed through on that beautifully. The oc is very interesting, both him and the world go through so much character development that you may feel lost at times with how often the world is built and improved upon. There are few grammar or spelling mistakes I could discover but with how long the chapters tend to be, context can be difficult to discern at times, however it is still very enjoyable to read.
The start may appear jaring and build the idea that the MC will be overpowered and this would lead others to believe its a simple SI power trip. That is 100% not the case and needs clarifying that the "boons" and "powers" he is to obtain through reincarnation are not exactly exclusive to himself and power still requires cost to obtain. One thing I need to make very clear is that the progression at first is incredibly slow and political after the initial introduction, but the reasoning behind it and the worldbuilding it entails are entirely worth it. The author has created a unique world of political intrigue, clans and lords and an entirely more thorough representation of the magical nobility in HP from an AU perspective.
While I would love to give this story 5 stars, the fact that it diverges so greatly from what people expect from a HP fanfic could and will pull a large majority of casual readers away. Despite this terrible burden, the amount of effort put into this story is absolutely outstanding and deserves the highest of praise. Conditional 5 star story for those with the patience to properly take its work in stride.

I don't normally review stories, but I just had to review this one. I had a lot to say about it. Here goes:
    Style:
Now the author's writing style is actually not bad, but something I was not a fan of was the swearing.
There's quite a bit of swearing in the beginning. It's understandable but I personally felt that it was a bit too much, and detracted from some of the conversations and scenes--at least in the beginning.
Another thing the author could work on, though it's a minor grievance, is how long and descriptive some sections were, they were too long, especially when there's action going on. Trimming these sections down, I feel, would go a long way to hooking the reader.
    Story:
Now, the story is good, very good. The world feels real, lived in. The lore is just awesome, the characters are also quite good. That's all I have to say about the story, I love it.
    Grammar:
The grammar's not bad, I wasn't able to spot any mistakes, and those I did were so small that I barely noticed them and they didn't really detract from the immersion.
    Character:
Now the characters are all pretty good, pretty believable. But he main character... I don't know how to feel about him.
He's a godless man, changed by his past, who does some MONSTROUS things for the greater good. He broke the Golden Rule, he trampled all over it, and I feel like it was not in character. The MC did have a family before he passed on after all, so I would expect maybe a little empathy from his side. I can only hope that the MC realises that 'the road to hell is paved with good intentions', and that later on in the story he remembers his roots.
But that was just me ranting about the MC and the choices he's made. I'll give credit where credit's due, in some ways he is a very believable character, after all...
Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Even though the story has taken a dark turn, I'm still a fan, and I recommend it.
It does justice to the source material, and in some ways, exceeds it.

I like this story a lot. The expanded world building, the way noble families work, and the characters feel more realistic than the original series, which is insane. The main character is not dislikable, even if he is a bit like a stereotypical emotionless protagonist.
The latest chapter just put me off with how out of character it is though:
While he does not like muggles that much, he doesn't completely hate them, and shows no sign of violating his past life's moral code. All of a sudden out of nowhere he's casting spells to get Lily's parents to hate their child??? Bro is like a stereotypical comic book villain. It just feels bizarre and out of character. Also made the protagonist a whole lot less likable.

Another story where a grown man is reborn, and suddenly forgets how to be an adult.  Along with forgetting all the modern tropes for the fantasy books he's obviously read.  Reborn, but not aware enough to even try meditation, or realize emotions need to be controlled to avoid accidental magic.  Pass.
