A writer with the world building talent of George R.R. Martin and the story telling ability of Stephen king. I saw no stars after reading the first chapter and felt outrage because this story is simply outstanding in every definition of the word.
Very quickly you are asking questions and not in a bad way…you are consuming the story as fast as you can out of fascination and a desire for answers to those questions.
Datra leaves the reader with the question ‘what kind of world is this to make a man so casually and apathetically cruel to those that are there to aid him?” And yet he still risks his own skin to solve where the flies are coming from.
A true example of the duality of man and a true antihero.

Fast paced story that throws you right in the middle of a dark and magical setting, not unlike the Malazan Bood of the Fallen. Natural sounding dialogue and character interactions sell this story, fans of magical agencies like SCP or BPRD should give it a shot. Overall it feels like a good mixture of authors like Glen Cook and Sanderson. Cook’s dark fantasy with the feel of the strange yet familiar worlds created by Sanderson. That feel of fading glory you might find in a Soulsborne game.
