It has been ten years since the divine who swore to protect them went silent, abandoning Birdie and her people to the merciless wilds. After losing her home to the powers of darkness, Birdie swore to return one day to uncover the truth behind the catastrophe and take back what was once hers. Now a refugee in a foreign land, she and her best friend Gabriel are finally old enough to take up the mantle of Champion, and after ten years of training and patience, the power to survive in the wilds is as good as hers.

On the morning before her Ritual of Sacrifice- the exchange that would trade her elfish lineage for the body of a human and allow her mastery over magic- a hidden devil awakens at the touch of a mad god and pushes the world out of balance. The fully realized demon now threatens to destroy the system of power that keeps the wilds at bay, and consume Gabriel along with it. Birdie is forced to question every belief that once held her up in this difficult world when she must join forces with a strange Hunter and the mad divine in order to stop the spread of wicked corruption that could end the world.
