Description
A System Apocalypse changes the Earth. A Threat of extermination looms over Humanity. A Hero returns from killing a Demon Lord. “Whoever said being a Returnee Hero is easy was full of shit!” Leonidas Paendrag spent five years in another world to defeat the Demon Lord and his literal armies of Hell, only for the final battle to send him back to Earth unexpectedly. Denied the rest he desperately wanted, Leonidas is instead thrust into a world of emerging fantasy races, warring human factions, and a dysfunctional family more intent on killing each other than the monsters roaming the planet. With royal elven politics, arena fights, a terrifying new Mentor, and hostile fantasy races mixing together into a nightmare cocktail of bullshit, Leonidas must use all his accrued knowledge, skill, and experience as the Hero to cultivate, grow stronger, and forge his own place in a post-System Incursion Earth. And in the process, figure out why the System keeps calling him a ‘Cataclysm’ and painting a target on his back. - J AughenbaughRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story has been gripping, making the reader place themselves in the main character's position without even realizing it, showcasing the relatability of how one might react in similar scenarios. It gives a depth to the decision-making, character of will, and motivations of the character that many stories fall short on. There is no singular clear goal, no overarching world quest, no path other than to figure out what the hell happened, and find out what caused the changes he experienced upon returning home. This is as much a journey of self-assessment and growth as it is a return to and surpassing of former levels of power, with realistic and engaging interactions with fleshed out characters along the way. I am constantly checking back for more chapters!
- ChilledFaithRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly a great book, I read it in 2 days and love it. The premise is great, characters feel real with flaws and the romantic tension is well done. I would say my only minor critique is slightly more world building of the city would help for me. Although that could completely be on me for just not visualizing it well. Otherwise I love it and can’t wait for more. Thanks for the book!
- GreyIslandRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I posted a comment on the chapter before the latest and now I HAVE to post a review, twist my arm why don't you? There's a decent amount of world-building and action and the action in my opinion is a treat to read along with everything else in the story. I like Leonidas, he's back home back in his old body (I assume or I'm dumb) but he still has memories of his extended time at war. He's not evil but he will do what needs to be done.I like that his family is still alive and has undergone drastic and wildly different events that mostly split them up. There's not A LOT to go off of for the early characters because we're still pretty early in the story but I like where you're going with this. Leonidas' sister and Bardulf are my favorite characters so far and I like that Synthra has her prejudices and reasons that we're not privy to now. I'm honestly excited if they have future interactions (My gut feelings are that they will) her reactions to being wrong about Leonidas and being confused about that.Ceruviel also has a lot of fun interactions with Leonidas so far.I like the world-building that we've had so far in that he was taken from his original world, and thrust into constant war. Won but was transmigrated BACK to his original world but with the caveat that he caused the "cataclysm" to happen on his world of origin. All in all, this wasn't a great review, I don't normally do these but I like this story so far. Personally, it's one of my favorites on my follow list so far. I'm excited to see where you take this.
- Drake_EURoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story:
After stumbling through the first few chapters, the author found his rhythm and is writing a story that feels alive. I feared that it would lose the spark because of the packed action in just one day, but there are no dry periods for now.
Grammar:
No issues.
Characters:
The Characters make errors, are opinionated and feel alive. With side chapters, the author throws light on the backgrounds of potential antagonists or friends.
Style:
I dislike some of the naming for example of the class „Psiarch“ sounds like PSI–Arse to me (especially in german), and commented on that at the chapter. Apart from that, i like it.
Overall:
A solid sword and sorcery story with light litRpg elements in an apocalyptic background. The MC is a little OP in his rank, but not too much. Possible harem, kingdom building in the future. Definitely dungeon delving and fighting against other factions.
If you like progression fantasy, then read this story, it’s definitely in the upper 10% of everything i read on royal road! But be aware that it will be a long story, i read around 50 chapters and it’s only the evening of the first day.
Argh „Advanced Reviews must be at least two hundred words long“! And I don’t see a word count here! 🤷🏻♂️ - DungeonDiverRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great story. Interesting world with a character I want to learn more about. Can't wait for the next chapters. Give this story a try you won't regret it. Why do i need to write 50 words. I don't like giving reviews why is the system making it even harder to do.
- DuskDeadmanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm not good at reviews without spoilers so I'll just say it's good so far. Interesting 4 part RPG class system that feels like it has a INSANE amount of potential if used right. Could also flop though if it's not used enough, or used wrong. No specifics, you want to know more, read the story.
- AyatoRahXephonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far this is a solid returnee story that doesn't have the come back as a God or utterly apathetic mc that alot of then do. Imagery is good cant wait for me.

The characters are believable on the setting, and very realistic and relatable.
Cant wait to see how the story continues, definetely the story im most hyped about on royal road!
Personally the mature notes the story distills are the highlights. It treats serious themes like violence and sex in a very realistic way, specially on it's setting.
Completely recomended if anything of it's premise seems appealing. - Garrow540Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0A fun if dark story. The play with duality between hero and monster within the MC is well thought out and I can't wait to read more into his backstory and failings and see him overcome himself and what the system wants him to be. The tension being built within the first twenty chapters are gnawing at me to keep reading.
- LordShenanigansRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have been greatly enjoying the story structure, its great to see a different take on the hero returns, and I love to see characters that take the time to learn more about the world they find themselves in, i look forwards to finding out more about the world and the civilizations that inhabit it. I love the character interactions and am excited to follow Ace.
